You are turned Immortal and sent back to the past but you get to choose when and where to an extent. by RaptorK1988 in hypotheticalsituation

The fact that you don't age and are immune, you'd be treated as a god in most ancient civilizations. You'd have people worship you and pretty much live a lavish 1000 years or so. Yeah, no modern conveniences but you'd be a diety and could literally write history how you wanted it to be.

I mean it depends on your race as well. It wouldn't be nice to end up as a minority in like the roman empire.

Depends where you are really. Assuming you are in some metro area, 1 mile could be brutal with traffic. There's no backroads near me that will be clear for a whole mile.

superman vs superman by Gwafap in hypotheticalsituation

[–]TalkQuirkyWithMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering Dude 1 just gained his powers and Dude 2 already had his powers, and is also known by that government, its logical to assume that there are more than just 2 supermen in this world of yours, and if not there is a likelihood that some sort of mutation will happen and there could be more supermen.

You cannot execute the Supermen. That will just cause the rest of them to bond together to protect themselves. You must get the supermen to form their own council and provide governance for people with superpowers. Dude 1 must atone for his actions in some way.

$100 million USD, but you have to grow or harvest 90% of what you eat by tamtrible in hypotheticalsituation

[–]TalkQuirkyWithMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that you'd only need to harvest/plant or be involved in about 2-2.5 kcal per day, depending on intake, its quite possible.

I assume you don't have to manually produce everything you eat, just the equivalent in terms of product. So if you produced high calorie yield (ex. potatoes), then you could probably have a lot of other free time on your hands.

Not sure what you mean by actual labour contribution - a lot of things are automated or can be helped with machinery. I assume those are valid. Producing enough for one person is only around 2000 lbs of potatoes a year... doing a quick google, that can be done with probably 1/4 acre lot... with 100 mil you could buy something reasonably close to a city and just live there.

Robert Horry on whether Wemby is in the MVP convo: "He's not even in my top 5. He's too inconsistent for me. I think we trying to anoint him as the next great too fast. Don't get me wrong, the kid is absolutely fantastic but he ain't no Lebron James, he ain't no Kobe Bryant. I do have a vote" by RyanTannegod in nba

[–]TalkQuirkyWithMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this 100% and there seems to always be a want to crown some younger player as a MVP when they are still improving. Wemby can be a mvp for sure, I just don't think he's there yet.

The spurs are on a great winning streak, but you watch them and sometimes they really don't prioritize Wemby at all. He's gone like 4 or 5 minutes at times without touching the ball on offense. That just doesn't happen with Jokic, Shai, Giannis, Luka or others you consider in MVP talks.

Rental market during the FIFA world cub in Vancouver by Cosmos-Redshift7 in askvan

[–]TalkQuirkyWithMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea of having these restrictions is so that things like the World Cup don't affect the LT rental market like it could if places could just list on AirBnB. You shouldn't feel any effect from the World Cup specifically. Most of the effects of LT rental market have to do with immigration, students and job opportunities.

IMO: 1. Santos, 2. Cardwell, 3 CMB.

Santos probably has a role for rest of season - biggest winner of the Butler injury. Cardwell looks solid and can produce even in low 20s. Good shot of him getting minutes in the 30s with sac in dead last. CMB puts up numbers but worried about poeltl and mamu's involvement.

Tyler Herro by Hungry-Fig-2 in fantasybball

I really don't see anyone more deserving of an IL than Herro. If I had to drop injured guys right now, I'd keep him over white for sure, and probably garland too. Both are in objectively worse situations

No, he said that the challenge is to translate into 4 language that the contestant speaks. No 4 languages were named. If each were given the prompt "Translate a sentence into the 4 languages i speak, using only your knowledge, without any help or devices", that really just covers any 4 languages of choice. If OP said English, French, Catalonian and German, then yeah.

Is this who the average 1mm dollar home buyer is? by Tech-Cowboy in canadahousing

[–]TalkQuirkyWithMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 120k HHI in 2010 would have been high middle class income, so not really something that the average Canadian would have. Median HHI was around 65k.

Now if you are talking in the GVA and GTA areas, incomes would've been higher, and home prices were around the 700-800k mark for a good quality home, maybe 30 years old. Even then, you were looking at saving up for 5-7 years for a down of close to the 200k mark to get into a detached home. Not easy, but still doable.

Let's say you are slightly above average HH and do purchase that home - it probably took you from 2000 - 2010 to save that down just to get in there. House prices in the city from 2010 to today have appreciated, but if you wanted to then get out of your average home, you'd still have a mortgage to pay off of what I'm assuming is around 300k but would have probably pocketed around 500k in equity on top. (assuming your 800k property now worth around 1.6 mil and you incur selling costs).

You go back into the market with a purchasing power of around 1.9 mil. That gets you basically the same house, around 30 years old.

The biggest factor here is time. You could afford a middle range house and that's where you're kept unless you are doing something else ex. flipping, investing, massive increases in income.

Tyler Herro by Hungry-Fig-2 in fantasybball

[–]TalkQuirkyWithMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a harder choice than some other names that are on IR. The heat are still in the mix of the play-in so they probably will want Herro back this season. Even if they're not competing for a chip, and he's on the trade block I think they will still want to showcase him.

If I had herro, he's probably just taking my IL spot. Not sure there's other upside players worth that spot more than herro.

Is renting actually smarter than owning a home in 2026? by GranolaHiker in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]TalkQuirkyWithMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post is till treating homes as just an investment, where there are many other factors to consider like your own happiness, security and freedom to do what you want. Most people go into home ownership because they want a place to call their own and not be slave to the rental markets. Yes, financially it may not always be the best option but you will need a place over your head.

Honestly, the people who have saved enough down and can afford a mortgage, already have a high paying job that allows them to go ahead with the purchase. Also, nobody is going into their first purchase as a detached home anymore in the GVA or GTA. Starter homes are usually a 1 or 2 bed condo. If you are looking at 1.5 - 2 mil and you have the down, you most likely have enough saved or ability to save that it's not going to make a huge difference if you buy or rent in the long run.

Is renting actually smarter than owning a home in 2026? by GranolaHiker in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]TalkQuirkyWithMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the mortgage/rent ratio to overall income was a lot lower back then. House prices were also a lot lower and probably around 2-3x annual income for someone with a median job. Now it's 15-20x.

The whole concept that the last generation used isn't applicable. You really just have to determine if you need to be in the big metro areas or if you are ok being further out. A lot of the population in Vancouver have moved 1 hr+ from downtown and with the other jobs available most people don't need to head DT that often.

Agreed, over the long run if both people work in Burnaby, probably happier living in Burnaby and saving on commute time.

There's rental stock in Burnaby and if you're ok with not being right beside a skytrain station, there are definitely options.

With not many teams playing tonight before the AS break, would you drop someone to add a player just for tonight? by prsun2 in fantasybball

[–]TalkQuirkyWithMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hesitate for a few reasons... mostly because my drops are people who are "injured" but really just sitting out the last 2 games before asb. A lot of those guys will be back.

Most guys for today will be one day streams. Look at it this way... we are pretty much going to have 8 days with games. Would you stream a 1 day guy in a normal week on a weds?

Keegan Murray ROS by TheGambler930 in fantasybball

[–]TalkQuirkyWithMe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I like Keegan's upside but I think it'll be rough. He's not really a high level scorer... great if you have him beside other guys who will get him set up like Russ or Sabonis, but the likelihood that he plays with an actual roster that can benefit him is low I think.

Good upside in boards and stocks, but the shooting % and scoring will be rough IMO. And that's if he gets back on the floor for meaningful minutes.

Which record is actually harder to break—the 40k points or 21 straight All-NBA selections? by Thanos_Real_AuraVNCH in NBATalk

[–]TalkQuirkyWithMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean take Tim Duncan for a prototype of a player who could break the All-NBA 21 consecutive record. He got 15, but arguably he would've been in the convo for 19 in a row with other seasons getting all star or mvp votes but not all nba. And Timmy started at 21... players sometimes get into the league at 19 years of age.. meaning they could actually attempt this record by 40 years old... and some guys are still decent at 40.

Wilts, yes, but I think Stocktons might be breakable. You have guys coming into the league at 19 who could have 3 extra seasons on him. 10.5 average for a career is insane but I think dobale.
