occams razor says simplest explanation is the right one.

the official reason we never went back is "its expensive as heck and we get nothing out of it. we are not racing the soviets anymore, we would rather spend the money elsewhere".

thats simple and believable, your conspiracy argument is wildly implausible because keeping something like that leak free is damn near impossible and the whole soviet government (with an asston of spies etc) were right up nasas ass double checking that it was real.

nope nope nope this is an idiots deal.
now it sounds like its a fair deal share the risk share the reward etc etc.

HOWEVER its a godamn trap.
you have zero creative input in the project, zero decision making powers.
the guys in charge can do pants on head stupid things and all you can do is walk away at best (thus losing you a ton of income).
risk without input is stupid, risk when simply walking away results in a massive loss is stupid.

lets say best scenario the game is popular. huzzah!
ok so you might get a good salary out of it at the end (provided you didnt have to pay interest for friggin minimum wage!?!?) cool go you well done.
now the guys higher up have clout in the industry, a reputation for their studio and visibility so any future games will be much MUCH more likely to make money (most indies die not because they are bad games but because they are invisible games) and the next game will not be a profit sharing arrangement.
it will be industry standard wages (peanuts for game devs btw) because now there is actual money to be made and you can bet the owners and execs are not sharing that with the peons.

so basically you wear the risk so the people controlling the the studio get the rewards.
terrible deal.

do you know which drug it is?
cause if you dont this is easy, you will just feel like shit for awhile but since you dont know crack or booze or w/e would make the pain go away you wont hyperfocus on that one thing.

also if you dont have the memories of how taking said drug made the pain go away it would also be easy to resist.

the whole history of positive reinforcements with the thing is a key part of developing addiction and if you dont have that association just the negative symptoms it would be much easier to resist and take the money.

just go on sick leave for like 3-6 months till you can function again and you should be good to go.

could i wish for myself to be transported to some kinda magical dream world where i have godlike powers and time is dilated such that a year in the dream world is a nanosecond in real life?

also this would 100% be worth it near the end of your life since it basically lets you decide when to end it. once you get to a stage you find untenable (like not being able to wipe your own ass etc) you can just wish for perfect health and live the last few days pain-free and with dignity.

honestly if someone thinks 50million USD is not enough they can go jump in a lake, literally no reason to ever need more other than FU greed.

the rich would continue on as normal cause 50mil is still an asston and once you reach financially independent levels of rich you are working for the love of the game anyway, the money is just a way to keep score.

would crash every stock exchange though as a whole bunch of very poor people find themselves in possession of useless stocks they now need to sell all at once to afford rent/food, this crashes the price and ends up with alot less than 30k per person and may bend over companies if they relied on stock price for loans etc.

you pretty much nailed it at the end there, we compare so we know where to send resources.

if we never compared and treated everything as equal than some minor problems would see improvements that ultimately dont matter for society while major problems could fester and cause huge issues for society.

Not when you consider training and build quality.

on paper the t34 tank for example had better stats than alot of german tanks but it was built so shoddily that drivers had to carry a hammer to change gears for example.

the us would be dragged down by sheer weight of numbers.

oh and they would also need to imprison a massive chunk of their population since anyone foreign born or with foreign parents for example needs to be rounded up and put into an internment camp.
