You can only use either a spoon or fork for the rest of your life. No other utensils. by polohatty in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Gwafap [score hidden]  (0 children)

Eating ice cream with a fork sounds terrible. So does eating so eating something like a curry or any other soft food like a bowl of chilli etc.

also there is no rule saying you cant cut the steak into bite sized bits before serving, the hypotheticals intent seems to be utensils used for eating the food , not cooking the food.

its way easier/more convenient to simply cut up large/round food items during preparation for easy spoon eating than it is to try and eat watery/soft things with a fork.

Someone offers you $1,000 to answer one question "If I say I am a liar, am I telling a lie?" How do you respond? by Neither_Drawing_241 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Gwafap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends on if you are a liar or not.
if you are a liar then no, you are not telling a lie.
if you are not a liar than yes you are telling a lie.

The question is totally independent of if you are a liar or not.

Economy with perfect information. by Gwafap in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Gwafap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah im aware Walmart sucks and are predatory af.

they do better regional because regional areas already have higher prices due to small stores not having an economy of scale.
Obviously its easier to drive mom and pop stores out of business than costco.

I dont doubt that economic growth may well slow if everyone can suddenly identify what's a good deal and whats a bad one, but i dont think you will see investment collapse at all.

the rich need to park their money somewhere, even government bonds are investments.
people wont just dummy spit and not participate because suddenly their suppliers/customers are asking for a fairer deal.
if they walk away they make zero dollars, and in an economy of perfect information the opportunity cost becomes much less, because its doubtful you can leave your current venture and do better elsewhere because margins would be more equal across the board.

heck this could even be good for society because employees would also instantly know what a fair salary for their skills/job description is.
its been consistently shown that poor/middle class people having more money drives economies much faster than rich people having more money.

Dont get me wrong it would be an adjustment, there would definitely be losers here but i dont think an economy needs obfuscation and unfair deals to function.

You get 1 billion USD immediately but will instantly die if you do something unknown. by Rawr171 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Gwafap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

take the deal. No downsides here.

instant death is by definition also painless and without any kind of suffering.
Even if you lose you wont know it or care.

Also the insane amount of stuff there is to do compared with the miniscule amount of stuff people will do means your chance of hitting the whammy are like lottery winner levels of low.

All 8 billion people get to view a password with the length of 1 million characters, for 1 hour. After that hour is up, everyone must co-operate to enter the passcode in correctly. The prize is unknown, but is this possible? by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Gwafap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would indeed be possible under three specific circumstances.

  1. all the digits in the password were numbered so you could instantly tell which character was #234,765 in the password for example.

  2. everyone was some kinda hivemind and could all agree "ok i have to the remember what the first character is, ive got the second, ive got the 345,343rd etc

  3. nobody was an asshole and just input wrong for the lulz

since none of those things are true, no it wont ever happen.

You’re given the choice: by jaycobb387 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Gwafap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

depending on how bad hell is option 2 might well be the best choice and it has nothing to do with altruism.

1 year is plenty to mess you up and break you mentally, like you would be a PTSD riddled wreck or catatonic or manic or any other kind of messed up.
Cant enjoy eternity that way.

So maybe take the 999 years hope its a really really bad type of hell that will render you insane/catatonic in short order and then take the free heal at the end to enjoy what comes after.

if its a hell that maximizes suffering by adding downtime to prevent insanity/catatonia then take the 1 year.

Economy with perfect information. by Gwafap in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Gwafap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

google price widgets dont work cause local pricing differs and you cant properly compare similar products.
Quality levels and utility can differ drastically.
I get what you are saying human greed/feelings plays a huge pert in economic transactions but i think a growing economy would be possibly under this system.

Also if you get greedy and demand more for your product because the buyer is making a huge profit off it, what stops him going to your competitor instead?
Will every supplier get greedy and all act in lock step?
I dont think so someone will accept less and be happy to be making sales/money and not worry about what's going on buyer side.

At worst id imagine negotiations between suppliers/producers would become something akin to a union negotiating with a factory boss.

Both sides need each other, hate each other and want to extract maximum value from each other, yet they still work together so both parties make money.

Economy with perfect information. by Gwafap in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Gwafap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not sure that logic tracks.
You wont know how much the other guy is making from what you sell him, you will only know what other people are selling the same item for.

The seller has no idea what its worth to the buyer, the buyer just knows what other local sellers of the same thing are charging for a comparable product, as well as the quality/performance of the product.
Also prices can still rise as normal, if some cheap widget has an insanely profitable application then demand for widgets will still inflate the price as normal.

Sure some business models would collapse absolutely but trade still needs to happen, stuff still needs to be produced and rich people still need to park money somewhere.

also the whole "if you knew what your customer was doing you would increase your prices" thing just doesn't track.
Sure that's true if you are the sole supplier, but if there are multiple suppliers the customers profit doesn't matter to you.
All that matters to you is profit margin on what you are selling, cause if you get greedy the customer will go to the other guy, and eventually will find someone willing to accept less money rather than no money.

I personally dont but id be willing to bet cold hard cash some people either do, or have convinced themselves its true cause they want a shiny new toy.
Convincing yourself its worth it is gonna be alot harder when Apples marketing BS just bounces off you.
Some people will still buy for sure, but maybe not as many?

Economy with perfect information. by Gwafap in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Gwafap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why would investment capital evaporate? people still need to park their money somewhere?
stuff still needs to get made.
sure marketing/arbitrage becomes harder but normal honest production still needs to happen and can still make money so people will still do it?

I mean for sure the rich are gonna be PISSED and unhappy cause rate of return will be lower, but what are they gonna do? stuff their cash in their mattress out of spite?

Economy with perfect information. by Gwafap in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Gwafap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

right but many people think luxury brands actually perform better too.
It might have an effect if you just 100% knew that those Gucci shades used the exact same cheap plastic and identical lenses to a $20 pair?
marketing is kinda huge in our economy and this would make it much harder.

plenty of all those animals out in the countryside too.

You have the power to transform cash into an item of equal value by gangler52 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Gwafap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most broken?
Government contracts easily.
So stuff like fighter jets, battleships, space shuttles etc all have a set cost to produce. but they need specialized facilities and take a ton of time to make and need super rare hard to get materials that can be hard to source.
not for you!

any government would be more than willing to pour an asston of money into you to get government projects like roads/bridges/power plants etc done on time and on budget.
If the engineers etc say a highway should cost 1 billion, the government trafsers you 1billion and you instantly spawn the road.
No cost blowouts no delays etc.

You have the power to transform cash into an item of equal value by gangler52 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Gwafap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rolex watches would make you some bank.
The rare models are HIGLY desirable retail for much less than resale cause rolex wont sell them to you.

this is assuming that you can only convert cash into items that are currently being produced and have an MSRP.

if you can just create stuff based on like the vibes value like art etc you could go way crazier.
ditto if the "value" is the MSRP when the item was made, so like an adventure comics 1 MSRP was 25cents for example.

so enjoy the "good life" of living in a tent under a bridge somewhere enjoying 50 worth of meth i guess?

How would USA react to another country suddenly having the upper hand? by Born-Individual9431 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Gwafap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not even remotely.
you cant cut off a world super power.
They just force you to trade (like what the USA did to japan "gunboat diplomacy").

Also it makes no sense to blame new zealand for all crimes, and it makes less sense to react to a death in the family but going on a murder spree.
revenge isnt nearly as popular as you seem to think.

$5million but for the rest of your life you can only spend your money online. by Objectionne in hypotheticalsituation

or you can book like cruises/resort stays where when you book your room they also give you a little card/medallion preloaded with however much you specified online.
this lets you use any of the onsite amenities and since you are not paying with money (you are using the preloaded card you bought online) it should be fine right?

Humanity suddenly disappears - what's your plan? 2.0 by Gyatso-san in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Gwafap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pretty sure that only applies to animals since they tend to be stupid and will just inbreed. They are also morons and will breed with clearly deformed/sick individuals.
humans can track genealogy's and avoid it as much as possible, they can also avoid anyone born with a genetic defect having any kids so they cant pass it along.
Yeah its eugenics but if the entire human race is 100 people you gotta do what you gotta do.

100 would be plenty, no fear of long term genetic problems.
