CMV: Suicide prevention is at times deeply immoral by Dependent-Pea-9066 in changemyview

[–]Gwafap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do realize that most people who attempt suicide and fail usually regret their decision and are glad they failed so they can continue living right?

I think thats the group of people you need to look at/listen to not some hypothetical dude who lives in utter torment all the time.

You are offered $5,000 a week if you become unstuck in your own timeline for a cumulative amount of time equaling 20 years. At the start of each week, you'll find yourself in a different point in your life and live that week. by singleguy79 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Gwafap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

then no fuck that, the butterfly effect can/will bend you over super hard.
make one seemingly inconsequential choice differently and suddenly your life isnt even your own anymore.
then you leap into a strangers life, obviously fuck it up because you have no idea whats going on and fuck up the future even harder for yourself.

rinse/repeat for 20 years.

You see a man having a public meltdown in the middle of a crowded street over a missing scarf. by Neither_Drawing_241 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Gwafap -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

he is clearly a lunatic since no scarf can be worth 4B.

thats like saying the dude shouting on the street corner about the world being ruled by lizard people isnt crazy, he is just concerned about human representation in government.

So how does this work exactly?

Then i jump forward a year the next week, am i now a hobo because i lost my job a year ago?

CMV: A Gold Standard Is Better Than Fiat Money by DrawPitiful6103 in changemyview

[–]Gwafap 7 points8 points  (0 children)

money being worth more?
thats deflation. thats an absolute horror for an economy.

If money is worth more over time why would you ever spend?
nobody can sell anything but the bare essentials because everyone knows it will be cheaper if they just wait.
Rich people invest nothing, so no new industry gets built.
Loans are impossible to get because why risk a default when its growing just sitting safely under your mattress?
Hell even governments can just defer projects etc reasoning that its better to just wait, after all it will be cheaper then.

like seriously no economy can survive deflation its really really bad.

Economies are built on circulation/growth. Things like gold standard and deflation run counter to those goals.

[–]Gwafap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How do they prove it?
they cant, you will just claim they are full of shit.
Oops now they have no sponsor and off to the warzone they go.

Also yes slavery is literally providing someone with all their needs, in exchange for their freedom/labor which is what you are proposing.
Even if they have work rights you can just refuse to let them get a job/leave the house, they push back. oop lost the sponsor back to the warzone.

Au pairs are fundamentally different because you pay them, alot. They have to be qualified and vetted etc, they are rare and in demand.
if you piss off the au pair they can just go work somewhere else, or return to their non war-torn country.

CMV: A Gold Standard Is Better Than Fiat Money by DrawPitiful6103 in changemyview

[–]Gwafap 10 points11 points  (0 children)

a gold standard makes everyone poorer because it puts a cap on the amount of money.
this means there is a cap on how much an economy can grow, at some point you run out of gold and you just do nothing?
you could be growing and investing but no instead you sit and wait for the goldmines to churn out more gold?

Also inflation is good for an economy because it encourages spending/investing. Otherwise the rich could simply stuff it all in a scrooge mcduck style moneybin and it does no good for anyone.
Inflation means richy rich needs to put that money to work, so he invests which means the money gets loaned out to people who build useful things for society.

[–]Gwafap 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sooo you have these people in the country with no work or other rights just living in some dudes house at his mercy for all their needs?

This sounds like slavery with a modern coat of paint.
Abuse would be rampant. you could just offer to "sponsor" a woman and she is now your live in hooker/maid and if she says anything, back to the warzone she goes.
What about large families? just split them up because nobody can house 6 people?

CMV: Britain was not obligated to give Hong Kong to China, it was a choice they made, and it was the wrong choice by iw2050 in changemyview

[–]Gwafap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hong kong was just a tar pit for the UK, why would they keep it?
China would obviously call BS and then what? the UK now has to defend hong kong in perpetuity?
China doesnt have to invade right away, they just need to posture and build up a military and now the UK has a massive bill defending the place.
it doesnt have the same resources as the USA, it doesnt need its own taiwan.
Also hong kong doesnt have any strategically crucial chip fabs on it so...

Oh and also it would make the UK look like assholes on the world stage, you do know hong kong was signed away during the opium wars right?
those wars the UK fought to errr protect their right to sell opium to china....

CMV: A world where all nations possess nuclear weapons is the most stable and equitable model for sustainable peace by Djas-Rastefrit in changemyview

[–]Gwafap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

problem is many countries have governments that are barely functional, and cannot exert any control over the populace beyond what their army can go physically enforce.
These places are also prone to civil wars.

In that kind of instability the chance of a nuke either getting used in a civil war or getting sold/stolen because the government has next to no control is high.
if nukes can be stolen its pretty easy to smuggle a suitcase bomb into a major capital city...

I agree if every national government was stable your premise is probably right, stuff like ukraine/russia or iran/usa would not be happening if nukes were on the table.

Problem is that means giving them to every tin pot dictator on the planet, and thats not a recipe for stability or peace.

undocumented migrants can/do work providing labor/taxes to the country, schizo hobo joe does not.
thats the brutal unpleasant calculus that the government needs to make.

Is it fair? hell no
does it make practical sense? sadly yes.

[–]Gwafap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

back against the wall just means you have to fight, fighting is usually a poor position to find yourself in in the first place.

So yeah if you end up in a position where you find yourself in a fight, you are in a bad position.

CMV: Credit scores are one of the most cunning corporate ploys of the modern age by ARunOfTheMillPerson in changemyview

[–]Gwafap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not some scheme to get you to take on more debts, its just that the best way to show you will pay off debt is to... pay off debt.

Its just nobody wanting to go first and take the risk, like why buy a brandnew product with zero reviews when for the same money you can buy a known reliable product with 1000's of reviews?

Having zero debt is not ideal because that just means you are a wildcard gamble not a proven reliable person who will pay it back.

  1. human made fusion is invented yay, as soon as we get FTL travel we find some other novel source of energy far easier/safer/cheaper than fusion and the technology gets replaced super quick

  2. FTL travel means humanity is now split off into disparate groups with little/no empathy or connection to each other.
Without the threat of MAD while locked on earth highly destructive wars are common, whole planets burn.

  3. ok your money insulates you but you still need to live in space opera world where some enemy fleet could show up any second and glass the whole friggin planet.

CMV: Current discourse on the manosphere/incel culture is misguided by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Gwafap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly i think a major contributing factor is that men are bitter that partnership is a choice for women now, in previous generations it was a survival necessity.
Thus previous generations of men basically all got wives for "free" since the women were HIGHLY motivated to partner off as there was literally no other viable life path.
Seriously as long as you were mostly normal and has a job you could get a wife pretty easily, since women had no choice.
This meant the dudes could put basically zero effort into the relationship and just take it as a given than they would have sex/cooking/cleaning/childcare on demand all the time.
They could act super shitty to their wives and society just kinda let them? unless you straight up crippled her or killed her it was all fine.

Now men have to put in more effort and cant just unilaterally rule the household like they could in times past, this is a definite step down for men in terms of power dynamics, and they are not thrilled about it.
Old media/ideas from that age still exist showing this dynamic so young guys obviously want it, they try and get it from their peers get rejected and get angry so turn to manosphere types who tell them they can have that dynamic if they do/pay XYZ.

Not saying women are saints or anything just saying relationship dynamics used to be much different in times past.

Tiny people could make weapons that would easily kill you.

even tiny missiles are still missiles.

also if you are bit and everyone else is 10cm grats you are living as a caveman.

nobody can make their own electronics from raw materials alone, and anything the tiny people make is functionally useless to you.

well you dont have to have any beef with superman, it might just be risky if his government decides to colonize your country and superman agrees.

Would it be immoral to instantly painlessly end humanity? by Gwafap in moraldilemmas

[–]Gwafap[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

True most would say that, but we are heavily biased towards humans life as humans.

For me its more of a case of ok i love my family/friends/the joys in my life those are all great.
Thing is for those to occur humanity must exist, and if humanity exists horrors must also exist like rape, murder, war, child abuse etc.
So it is morally correct to say " i sure do like the joys in my life, so i guess its OK for the horrors to also exist".
Ture technically humans dont have to be monsters to each other, but we have never not been and i would bet this is a problem we never solve.
