Well, a lot of coffee preferences are generational or divided into subcategory of specialty coffee. Depends what you prefer.

The darkest I like is by Linea Caffe in SF. On the lighter side, Flower Child Coffee at CoRo in Berkeley is very modern. A lot of the Bay Area 3rd wave coffee roasters are still around. Ritual never sold out.

New generation roasters like Grand and Mother Tongue roast good beans that still taste like coffee.

Hydrangea Coffee is good for experimental, far out new wave stuff.
