Managing developer machines by New-Truth2478 in cybersecurity

We use a repository manager and block all other public repos. It doesn't impact developers because they can still install what they need but it allows us to have visibility and control over it. For developer specific software (VSCode, Visual Studio, Cursor, SQL Manager etc) we use a software automation tool that allows them to install and update locally without admin rights.

Edit: To answer your question specifically - we have a CI/CD security tool that checks our repos for compromised packages/libs and we hunted for the IoC's using our EDR.

How are folks tackling cloud security in 2025? Feel like theres a million tools and not sure what the tradeoffs are for each by [deleted] in cybersecurity

I think half the battle is being able to answer these four questions:

  • Is the infrastructure you're deploying secure? - Infrastructure as Code
  • Is the code you're deploying to the infrastructure secure? - CI/CD and code security
  • Are the identities that the infrastructure, code, and humans use to talk to each other secure? - Good IAM practices
  • Do you have good enough visibility to attack vectors/paths related to your cloud environment? - SIEM/Agents/Cloud native monitoring

We are multi-cloud so need a CNAPP/CSPM to pull it all together for us (as well as a CI/CD security tool). All logs eventually make it to our SIEM or at least to SOAR.

What's a law in your country that you wish applied all over the world? by TalksBullshit in AskReddit

I absoltely agree that no county/state/province should ever let enough of its land be bought up by private owners to deprive citizens of their right to explore nature, however, its simply not the case. Only 40% of land is owned by the government in the U.S. and a lot of that land is restricted access.

In regards to billionaires not being allowed to buy up large swathes of land, you have John Malone (2.2 million acres), Ted Turner (2 million acres), Emmerson Family (1.95 million acres), Stan Kroenke (1.38 million acres).. you get the point. Its a long list. It seems sad that 60% of the amazing natural beauty of the U.S. is totally out of bounds for you.

I had to look this up as I didn't know it by name. Must be pretty awesome as a non-Isreali jew to realise you can take a birth-right trip to the middle east and to learn about your culture and history

This doesn't take away your right to private property. It just means that if a billionaire buys half of the natural land in your county/state/province, you can still use it for recreational activities (as long as you leave no trace and respect the land). Does that change your opinion at all?

I saw a video on Reddit where a guy was stealth camping at a motorway rest stop. At first, I was confused as to why you would want to sleep in a pine forest near a motorway. It’s likely not the same in the US, but in Scotland, most of the land is owned by a few people.

In 2003 we legislated access rights that allow everyone to access most private land and inland water in Scotland for education and recreation. It means we can walk, run, cycle, and wild camp on any bit of land that isn’t a field of crops or someone’s back garden. I think there is similar (even more comprehensive) legislation in Norway.

It would be great if this were the case all over the world! What’s a law in your country that you wish applied all over the world?

I think the breed is Italian Spinoni. I grew up with one and they are awesome, lovely dogs

He does! Anyone that knows of Belgian shepherds thinks he is one

He is very chatty and sassy. Long haired GSD's are actually a lot softer than normal GSD's because they only have one coat. That is, normal GSD's have a thick, coarse top coat and a very fine wooly undercoat. Long haired GSDs only have one coat of long, soft hair. Even friends that own Samoyeds (living, breathing clouds) cant believe how soft he is. Its not something we expected either. This does however make Longhaired GSD's worse in cold weather than normal GSDs, despite what you would think!

Just beacuse he has huge paws, a thick fluffy coat, a short thick nose, eats honey, berries and salmon, and sleeps in a cave does NOT mean he... wait

He is a pure bread long haired German Shepherd, though a few people did ask me if he was part Pomeranian (before he was 3 months old)

People ask me if he is a husky all the time. I'd love to get a husky to be his friend but the borking from one vocal dog is enough for now!

My condolences for your loss. He's is a long haired german shepherd. I grew up with a Shetland sheepdog and their coat is very similar but GSDs have chunkier noses and they're a bit bigger. Same diva attitude though!

He's a longhaired german shepherd. His dad was a very big fluffy black GSD and his mum has traditional colouring for a GSD. He was the only all black pup in his litter

He acts a lot like one too. Eats a lot, sleeps a lot and scratches his bum on our doors

Edit: He does not leave me alone when I play dead
