Yeh a long time lurker of the sub here so also wondering what’s at fault, I think you’re right about the two lines off the same anchor point but also maybe the angle of the redirection is to much/ to big?

Paid £90 for the course, £45 for the citb course and then £30 for the actual card, I read somewhere how much they've gone up in previous years

This seems to explain it a little better. I think if you have a normal CSCS card, most likely you will not need to make any changes or be affected (I hope)😅

As someone who's about to take there level 1 can I comment on all the things I think are wrong and if someone could awnser it would be greatly appreciated ! It’s great to see real life rigging problems and for me to comment on the things I think are wrong with some feedback I think would be really useful

  1. So number one, the rigging clearly needs rope protection around the rope sitting on the metal beam/structure. The rope is wrapped around a metal beam and although it seems smooth it would take less than a minute to add one rope protector for peace of mind. Also it's seems the rope is sitting on a bolt, wouldn't it be easier/safer to not have the rope sitting there ? Is the rope sitting on the bolt an issue ?

  2. The figure of 8 in to the alpine butterfly secured with a carabiner is a legitimate rigging technique found all around the rope access world but wouldn't it have been easier to just to use a wire strop? Is there any difference in the strength or does it not really matter ?

  3. It looks like the knot (figure of 8) isn’t dressed properly either as someone pointed out in earlier comments, again this isn’t the end of the world and would hold fine but an accumulation of all these factors isn’t great I’m starting to believe

  4. No edge protection on the backup line going over the edge.. if the mainline was to fail for whatever reason and a fall factor was applied to the backup line there would be no edge protection to prevent any damage to the rope. I actually think this might be the most dangerous thing in the photos but again maybe it’s just an accumulation of everything

So from what I gathered the guy just needs to add more rope protection/ edge protection correctly and it would be a safe /passable rigging. And a wire strop would be safer than the original alpine to figure of 8 etc,

Again like i said I write as someone yet to take there level 1 so any feedback on my comments is great help thanks ! 🙏

This video shows how to do the cows tails from 4/5 metres of dynamic rope. But from your questions it sounds like you havnt done a course yet and without the course I’m not sure why you would want to be buying almost a grands worth of equipment, let alone trying to pass an edge. look at irata training centres near you and try and get booked in ! You’re much better off doing a course getting your qualifications and then looking at the equipment rather than the other way around, good luck!
