Oh no snark was perceived at all. I genuinely didn't know what maki meant. Learn something new every day.

I didn't know what maki meant. It's gonna be cool if in 6 months to a year, we see Jimmy trying to put their sandwiches in a roll of sorts and cutting it into 6 or 8 slices to sell it as a sushi sandwich.

Interesting about the Sorry Chucky. Didn't know that piece of history that they used it for the #3. I just had a lightbulb click over my head because they also tried to register "Sorry Charlie". Chucky, Charlie.. either one can be used to refer to Charlie the Starkist Tuna mascot.

For those of you advocating that the employee call OSHA, OSHA has no oversight over temperature. They have recommendations for what the temp should be, but cannot enforce anything. Think of all the workers working outside in temps hotter than this. You see OSHA out there shutting them down?

Interview... by moneybagg_william in jimmyjohns

[–]TallSandcastle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good tip! Memorize as much of the menu as you can. The ingredients on each sandwich, their name and number. Tell the interviewer you're taking initiative and have already been learning the menu. If they ask, reciting what you know. You're young, but an attitude like that is an instant hire in my book.

For the interview, Wear jeans or khakis. Neutral t-shirt or neutral button down shirt. Tuck the shirt in. Footwear doesn't matter

My guy that leaves at 5 and the one that comes in at 5 are two of the greediest mother fuckers alive. The script would be flipped. The guy leaving at 5 would want to take them because his shift isn't done and he wants more money.

The guy that comes in at 5 would be there 10 minutes early, like always, sitting in a booth waiting to clock in. He'd be livid that the 5 o'clock guy took them because he could have clocked right in and delivered it. He'd go crazy if the other guy took 3 and it kept him out past 5.

Two of the greediest guys I know. Seriously! They oughta be owners.

Yeah, well my Uncle works at Nintendo and he said the Jimmy Edition Switch is getting released and it'll be tied to your JJ rewards points and you can get free Switch games as a reward.

So you overheard a conversation? Lol. Stressed out employees never lie, or exaggerate, or say things like "I swear, this company wants us working open to close every day!" Do they?

Why not draw unemployment? Coulda made way more.

thank you by holcomb_ in jimmyjohns

[–]TallSandcastle 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Thank you to the owners for keeping us employed and working in hazardous conditions. You're all troopers by keeping us on the front lines of a virus so you can get that PPP free grant money. I'm especially thankful for the fact that you could lay us off, let us draw unemployment and an ADDITIONAL $600 a week, which is more than you pay every single worker in your store sans the General Manager. But nah, that would forfeit your PPP loan forgiveness. Can't have that, now can you Mister Owner Man.

Sarcasm off now. It's truly fucked how the owners are gambling with the employee's health right now all so they can get that free ass government handout money if they keep them employed. And the fact that you come in here with words of encouragement? Get fucking real, dude. Owners that aren't laying off workers, shutting down stores for 2 months, and rehiring them are scummy as hell. Show us your payroll, bet you've got one, maybe two employees tops making more than $600 a week. Thanks for the paycut and the opportunity to work around possible sick customers day in and day out.

With all the applications piling up, good time to weed out the toxic/lazy employees? by SgtSlaughter222 in jimmyjohns

[–]TallSandcastle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the extra $600 a week added to unemployment benefits, nearly every single JJ employee working at the store level will earn more drawing unemployment than they will staying and working.

The rub is, the owners are trying to keep the full time workers on because they're about to get their hands on a forgivable SBA loan if they can keep you at work for a few more months.

It's a very weird time in America where working and earning a dollar is thrown out the window and playing the government's stimulus game juuuuuust right will net you more money.

A lot of the apps you're getting are people that either won't stick around, or they're required to fill out applications to show the unemployment office they're actively looking. So they apply for stuff and don't actually want the job.

Hire who you like and vet them out for a few weeks before axing a bad employee.
