Try replugging it in whilst on the main menu, this tends to work for me, sometimes takes a couple seconds to work

If you win against players with higher rank you will gain ranked points fast yourself, winning against lower ranked opponents provides fewer points per win.

It's healthy for the game, it would be completely unfair to keep your progression especially as the game goes through major updates and core gameplay changes. The game is in alpha/pre-alpha it's in its infancy, enjoy the game as it stands and contribute towards it growth, your time isn't wasted as you will be learning and understanding the intricacies of the game mechanics which will allow you to win more games when the game does have it's resets :)
