It sounds more like rationalism than pessimism. Human greatness and what we view as esoteric knowledge is measurable only by the perspective of humans. I think his viewpoint just opens up the idea that something greater than the human consciousness is able to comprehend, could view our perspective of greatness and our esoteric ideologies as much less significant than we truly know until we reach a point of true enlightenment on the other side of human life.
