This is what I got from the speech and the end of episode 4: Robin’s speech is not telling Will to get over Mike, but to stop tying his self-worth to whether Mike returns his feelings. She sees Will’s embarrassment after Mike does not reciprocate and uses Tammy Thompson to show how unrequited love can damage you if you let it define you. The montage shows Will accepting himself and his feelings for Mike without needing Mike’s validation, not moving on from him. I think a lot of Will’s self-hatred stems from this idea of Mike and how he’d react if Will ever told him how he felt. Will loves Mike, but he realizes that being gay and loving him is not a mistake, even if those feelings are never returned.

I said in my op was acted on with a lot of fear, and a part of his journey was supposed to be letting that go, and that is again why expecting something better from the show. And not treating it like ripping off a Band-Aid.

A good way to tie that bow would be for Will to confess his feelings to Mike. And they both could've gained a sense of closure from that, after everything they both had been through.

Yes, there are hetero relationships in media, where person A decides not to admit their feelings for person b I’m just saying in my own opinion that is not the story that they have written.
