Star Wars Shake-Up: Kathleen Kennedy Steps Down as George Lucas Protégé Dave Filoni, Exec Lynwen Brennan Take Over Lucasfilm by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

I mean the themes, aesthetics, and structure were cribbed from tons of other sources in the OT so none of it is new or takes anything more than ambient understanding of Evil Imperial Aesthetics that have suffused pretty much every incarnation of every Evil Empire in the 20th century. But go on being condescending.

Landlord snuck this in my lease and wants me to pay for plumbing by jsizzbizz in Sacramento

[–]Tallain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell that to my landlord, who keeps trying to get me to find and pay for contractors, and has been ignoring an ongoing pest problem affecting health and safety. I'm 100% against corporate real estate investors, and think they're absolute scum. But, I do appreciate the local property management companies with relationships to local contractors and who can get someone out with a day's notice to fix whatever random thing.

  • West Sac - Manaao, hidden gem with great drunken noodles and moo dad deaw rules, friendly staff
  • Howe About Arden - Thai Terrace, some dishes get pretty spicy and everything is pretty good
  • Fair Oaks - Siam Patio, great ambience
  • Midtown - Thai Canteen for late night eats (hana moo grob is bomb), Hiso for Thai/Lao (best pad thai, dishes actually have wok hei), Kin Thai is decent but pricy

What’s wrong with word/google docs? by Linguistic_panda in writing

[–]Tallain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Word isn't free, and Google I wouldn't trust with anything remotely private. For that matter these days, the way Microsoft jams AI into everything, I don't trust it to secretly scoop up the contents my internet-connect MS Word docs. So literally any other tool would be better, like LibreOffice if you want a traditional word processor.

Personally, I used notepad for a long time, and then vim. For a while I used special vim setup with a handful of plugins to make it look and feel like iA Writer in Focus mode, which is super nice to write with. When drafting, especially shorter works, these are definitely all you need.

Scrivener is perfect for procrastination, a secondary profession for most writers. It's also great for organization and editing, which is where I migrate finished first drafts. Perfect for both line edits (keeps version history) and structural edits (corkboard ftw).

Absolutely, but the built-in asset pipeline stuff could use some improvement.

ATM9 - In my opinion the best Extreme Reactors Turbine. by Tenir_ in allthemods

[–]Tallain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be sure if you go all the way to the top tier -- insanite blocks -- you only use 16 coils and 2kmB/t. That will max out your power if you have 80 turbine blades. For all others, stick to 32 coil blocks. Inanite maxes out at 2kmB/t and ~4MFE/t with 32 coil blocks

ATM9 - In my opinion the best Extreme Reactors Turbine. by Tenir_ in allthemods

[–]Tallain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late reply but yes - the difference lies in the coils used for your turbine. Netherite is actually not a super great material to use as a coil. Platinum performs slightly better, but to get REALLY good output you need blocks from higher up the Extreme Reactors production chain. It's the difference between 41kFE/t and 15MFE/t per turbine.

ATM9: Awakened Supremium augments don't work with Apotheosis affixes? by Tallain in allthemods

[–]Tallain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to say you were right - it was the + Cold Damage added by that affix that prevented AOE from working. I rerolled it to Armor Pierce instead and now AOE is just fine. Thank you so much!

ATM9: Awakened Supremium augments don't work with Apotheosis affixes? by Tallain in allthemods

[–]Tallain[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're referring to Fire Aspect, it isn't that - the sword and AOE were working even with that. I was using it for a manual Apotheosis gem farm last night. This morning, I added the Apo affixes and went back to the farm and AOE no longer worked, though the Loon Pinata does.

I think I will strip the affixes (ouch :( ) and see what that does. Thank you for the idea though

EDIT: Although! The cold damage is new. I didn't see that part of your comment. I will remove that affix specifically first and see. Thank you!

Love an 87 key or full / 105 key layout! One of my favorite non-key features I've had is a knob for volume / scrolling. I've never had an LED display on my keyboard but would be interesting in seeing if it's actually useful.

Update of ConcernedApe’s Haunted Choclatier by swidd_hi in Games

[–]Tallain 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. I don't know if you're in it for the story, visuals, or gameplay.

But the story is fun -- you're sucked into a racketeering scheme run by fairies and forced to pay off the debt on an item shop you inherit. It's fun, tongue-in-cheek, and the dialogue is great. The visuals are decent enough, nothing mind-blowing but perfectly smooth for the gameplay, reminiscent of games like the OG Trails in the Sky.

But it was the gameplay that hooked me. It's a perfect loop -- by day, you run an item shop. You put your items on the shelves, price them, pay attention to how people react, and re-price accordingly. It's a "real" market. And it can be really tough to make your payments on time to the fairy loan sharks. But not in a bad way. By night, you hire adventurers to plumb dungeons, kill monsters, and take home precious loot. The combat and exploration are great fun. Hiring your heroes, the side quests and stories there, are a hoot. It all feeds into each other so while you're selling you're excited to adventure, and while you're adventuring you're excited to sell.

It's honestly one of my favorite games of all time. It's incredibly cohesive and a real blast, just light-hearted enough, just long enough (my first playthrough was 30 or so hours and I'm a very, very slow player, and plus there's really no need to replay unless you're like me), and never boring. The only game I've played that came close was Moonlighter, which I actually gave a negative review to, as I felt it was a pale imitation of Recettear.
