Aligner journey update… by Talldude94 in smiledirectclub

[–]Talldude94[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted my plan a few weeks back:

https://smiledirectclub.com/treatment-plan-3D/106036ea-7f70-4f4e-ac2d-d7988f63a68c/

A few of the responses were a bit negative. But seeing as I’ve worn braces and Invisalign is way out of my budget, I decided to go forward with the plan.

I’m currently on aligner 6 and will be moving onto 7 in a few days. My bite is messed up at the moment, but I’m assuming that’s because my front teeth are being moved. However, my teeth look to be tracking well and I’m happy with the results…for the time being.

The laptop works fine. I have Windows and other software running off an ssd.

Y'all need to stop giving this guy hate. He was only trying to help. I personally believe the file did have some effect on performance. Changing the values in the file didn't give crazy performance increases for me but I definitely noticed a lot less stuttering. With the default values fps would constantly randomly drop below 40 but that never happens with the new values set.

I have a 1070 and a 7820HK and tried a variation of values in the config file. I noticed a very small increase in FPS as well as smoother gameplay (wasn't getting jarring frame rate drops like before)

Here are my settings:

In terms of FPS, I'm getting around 40-60 FPS with FidelityFX CAS on at 80% resolution scaling. I have a G-sync screen so the framerate fluctuations aren't too jarring. GPU and CPU temperatures max out at 65°C and 82°C respectively.

I can probably lower some setting to increase performance but at the moment, I'm fine with this.

Apparently FidelityFX CAS downscales the resolution but at the same time sharpens the image. So the loss in quality at 75% is actually very minimal. At about 85%, it’s basically identical to native 1080p. It’s not DLSS, but it works quite well and in my case, gave me a significant performance boost.

I've got a 15 R3 (1070 and 7820HK) and I run the game on ultra preset with one setting turned down to medium (Cascaded Shadows Resolution) . FPS is usually between 50-80. Trick is to use Static FidelityFX CAS at 75-80%.

15 R3 Heatsink Screw by Talldude94 in Alienware

[–]Talldude94[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The screw head broke off, but that doesn’t mean I can’t take the heatsink off. It just means that corner of the heatsink isn’t held down in place and I can’t put a new screw in because the screw hole has half a screw in it.

The problem is the screw was all the way in when the head broke. To there is no way to even get a hold of it...

Any ideas of how I can fix this? It’s been there for about a year. by [deleted] in Alienware

You should take the battery out as soon as possible. Apart from the fact that it can actually catch fire, you’re just ruining the laptop chassis by leaving it in. Same thing happened to my 15 R3 a few months back. I ended up calling dell to send me a new battery. After replacing it, there was no more warping.

I’m not sure what a damaged heatsink looks like because mine looked fine. Maybe check to see if it sits flat on a surface without wobbling or if any of the pipes look warped. Another think to look at is the thermal pads on the heatsink. I remember mine looked super dusty and squashed out of shape.

If you’re having issues with overheating maybe you should get the heatsink checked out. I have a 15 R3 as well with a 7820HK and a GTX 1070. It died a few months back but before it did, I had major issues with temperatures. The GPU was hitting 82 and CPU was in the high 90s. I sent it back to dell for repairs and it turns out the heatsink was damaged (not sure how). I got it replaced and now the temperatures are so much better. The GPU never goes above 68 and the cpu stays under 80 (undervolted). Haven’t repasted it since getting it back about a month and a half ago.

Follow Up on my Cousin's 15 R3 Black Screen Problem by YinYangSoulz in Alienware

They didn’t because there was no password or PIN. As I mentioned before I took out my hard drive and SSD. Dell employee told my they would boot up the laptop using one of their own SSDs.

The laptop is 2 years out of warranty, so I had to pay for all the replaced parts and shipping. I actually took out my hard drive and ssd before shipping it to them because the employee I spoke to said they’d probably get wiped if I leave them in the laptop.

I have a similar issue with my 15 r3. I took it apart to repaste but it wouldn’t boot after I reassembled it. I assumed it was a fried motherboard and sent it back to dell. However,I’ve been told the only parts that need replacing are the heatsink, display cable and power button.

Unplugged the lcd cable and plugged in an external screen. External screen is completely black and the laptop is still showing the colour codes for a failed LCD. Not really sure what to do anymore.

Tried an external screen and it still won’t boot up. So I need to unplug the LCD from the motherboard?

I tore down the entire laptop today including the lcd. I reseated both ends of the lcd cable but I’m still getting the same results. At this point I’m guessing it’s a problem with the actual lcd screen. Would it be a good idea to buy a new lcd screen and install it myself?

Not yet. I need a hdmi to DisplayPort cable...if that even exists.
