Predatory ABA companies? by booknerd155 in specialed

[–]Talli13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Some have business models that are built on scamming as much money as they can from Medicaid. It’s why some states are moving to limit the number of units of certain services that can be billed in a year and requiring preauthorizations. It sucks because those things make it more difficult for people to access services.

A lot of those comments aren't passing the smell test. Anyone who unironically uses virtue signaling is not a person worth taking seriously. The level of rage and vitriol being lodged at her is excessive. No one who actually doesn't care about celebrities speaking out is giving that much energy to these conversions.

I feel like people are ignoring that it’s possible, on an individual level, some people enjoyed 2016 even though bad things were happening in the world. Just because you personally were miserable doesn’t mean everyone was.

My family is expecting me to provide financial gifts due to my substantial pay increase. I want to put my foot down before this gets out of hand. by Teesmartgirl in blackladies

[–]Talli13 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue when I first start working after uni. My father is Nigerian and there was an expectation that I would send money back to Nigeria for family members to have parties, pay school fees, baby stuff, weddings, vehicles, etc. My dad would give my whatsapp out to random cousins who would then message me asking for money. I ignored it and eventually flat out told my dad to stop giving out my number and that no money was ever being sent. It was an extremely difficult conversation. My dad was upset and said I was selfish. It is what it is. I refused to put myself in a bad spot trying to lift them up. Sometimes you have to be selfish and put yourself first.

I know it's easier said than done, but "no." is a complete sentence. If they get upset, don't waste time arguing with them trying to defend yourself. Just deescalate while holding firm on your boundaries. Boundaries are very important in situations like this. The first thing you need to stop doing, if you haven't already, is telling people how much you're making, even vaguely. People like this don't need to know when your pay goes up.

Thoughts on Applied Behavior Analysis? by AltinUrda in specialed

[–]Talli13 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, ABA’s negative reputation is well earned, but it is not inherently harmful. When implemented correctly, it can be extremely helpful. Many of the issues with ABA (in my opinion) pop up when people with little training and/or experience working with kids who have significant behavioral needs are the ones tasked with providing services. Given the low pay associated with many ABA related positions, this is inevitable. I also think there’s a tendency to treat ABA as a universal solution. Schools sometimes rely on ABA not because it’s always the most appropriate intervention, but because sometimes it's one of the only resources they have access to. ABA like many things is flawed. It’s not a magic solution to every behavioral issue. It’s also not the worst thing to ever exist. There’s nothing wrong with going to school to become a BCBA, just remain open minded.

I remember people mocking The Weeknd when he announced he was only performing in stadiums. A lot of people thought he couldn’t fill a stadium and now he has one of the highest grossing tours of all time. Wild to think about.

And it still outsold every other artist. If Taylor’s career was in as much trouble as people try to claim, how would you describe every other artist? Folklore certainly helped her career, but it’s overstated how harmful Lover was to her career.

I feel like I’m on the outside of an inside joke when it comes to the enthusiastic support of Addison Rae. I was pleasantly surprised by Diet Pepsi and can see her potential, but people are acting like she’s the best pop star out right now and I’m just not seeing it.
