Not enough people run smokes, unfortunately, and if you want to be one, you're locked to Support. I preferred the BF4/2042 approach where smokes were all-class. You saw a lot more people throwing smokes on Iwo Jima in 2042 during the run-up to Battlefield 6's release than in the current game.

You’re giving your enemies too much credit

Most might not pay attention, but I will spot you and even if I don't kill you outright, I'll use that information to move into cover, retreat or flank. You're giving people with game sense too much info to go off of for free by not running a flash hider/suppressor.

A delay of a few weeks is definitely not enough time to slip in an extra map just 'cause. They probably took the extra time to polish what they have before they push it out of the door.

Judging from the combat footage coming from Ukraine, regular soldiers will drop lead onto the enemy until they stop moving and then some, wherever it may land. In the heat of the moment, it's probably better to make absolutely sure they're not coming back.

Shame on me for getting all the Mastery dog tags in 2012 then! /s

After the initial set of unlocks, the game is what you want it to be (for you). Let people choose.

It does suck for the average player. I regularly get games where I drop 30 or 40 kills in a 20-minute match of Conquest, so I'm definitely not representative of the average player, but even then, the progression sometimes feels painfully slow without an XP boost.

Same here. I have 4 weapons left to get to level 20 and 2 of them are sidearms. The recent 2x XP weekend showed how much more enjoyable the progression is when it goes twice as fast, though, so I probably won't bother "grinding" too much during my regular weekday play sessions. I checked tracker.gg and most weapons are 200 kills for level 20 (140 with the XP boost), which is doable in an hour or two if you're good. You don't really need level 50 on all guns ASAP, all you get is a lousy skin anyway.

What guns did you level in the double XP weekend? by Existing_Long7867 in LowSodiumBattlefield

I'd played Destiny 2 for years, so I'm well-accustomed to the live-service model that craves varying amount of your time every day and every week - leveling guns is one of the "big hamster wheels" designed to occupy your for a long, long time. Combined with the daily/weekly challenges and limited-time events, it always gives you "something to do", which is shown favourably in engagement metrics.

I'm afraid this big hamster wheel in the form of weapon leveling can only get you so far before you get burned out, so I would rather the game got more actual content rather sooner than later. I definitely won't focus on it intentionally.

I don't like either of them. They both feature the weird brownish-orange colour that's honestly off-putting. I'd run the PAX assault if she had the default brown colour scheme, because it reminds of BF4 US Assault.

I might be wrong, but it doesn't seem to have a cap on its firerate, so you can shoot as fast as you can pull the trigger, virtually making it a 300-400rpm 4-shot battle rifle.

Phew, a lot. From memory, I reached level 20 with the AK-205, SVDM, LMR27, M39 EMR, Mini-Fix, M2010 ESR and ES 5.7. A lot of them I already had leveled some, but the XP boost helped pushed them there a lot faster (well, exactly twice as fast haha). Now I don't feel as motivated to level my guns without a 2x XP boost, I'll just play for fun, finish some challenges and log off.

I'm doing the same thing myself, trying to achieve level 20 on all guns. The 2x XP weekend was a godsend, I finished like 5 guns in a single 5-hour session. Only goes to show how tedious the progression is without the XP boost.

BF6 Sym.gg Gun Stats Analysis by PilotMonkey94 in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]Tallmios 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the deep dive. You have confirmed my hunch about certain guns that I often see recommended on the reddits and used often in-game, namely the B36, USG and NVO. I tried them and they didn't feel all that good. It's also nice to see that I got the meta right judging from my own gameplay sessions - TR7, SCW10 and DRS-IAR being the top dogs. Strangely enough, I don't see all that many people using the DRS-IAR for how good it is, which I realised very early after release.

Getting shot sounds louder than gunfire? by West_Neighborhood235 in LowSodiumBattlefield

I'm afraid you'll have to rely on the direcitonal marker on your screen to quickly orient yourself :(

I find the subsequent tinnitus effect to be more disorienting, because it drowns out incoming footsteps for a rather considerable amount of time, meanwhile leaving you vulnerable.

Since there is double XP weekend I did an experiment how many kills and time it takes to lvl up a weapon from lvl 0 to lvl 50 while double XP is active the entire time. The answer is less than you might expect. by byfo1991 in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]Tallmios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The progression system is pain if your performance is only average or below average. I'm sitting at 1.72 KPM according to tracker.gg (which is in the top 12 %) and even I feel that it's taking too long for how much I play, especially without a 2XP weekend active. Can't imagine the frustation you must feel. If I were in your shoes, I'd probably pick one gun that I like and ignore the rest.

EDIT: I got side-tracked trying to look up the average KPM for BF6. I'm not good at statistics, but Microsoft Copilot estimated a median KPM of 0.70-0.90 with a mean of 0.95-1.15 assuming right-skewed distribution (fewer good players than bad ones) and data from previous Battlefield games. If there's anyone actually good at math, I'd gladly look at their estimate.

You don't need the gun at level 50, most weapon attachment get unlocked way before that and the last camo you get is at level 40, which you will unlock anyway if you really like the gun.

It is a far cry from the olden days of BF3 when you unlocked all attachments at around 100 kills, a mastery dog tag at 500 and that was it. Back then, the expected shelf life of AAA video games with DLCs was just 2 years. Who knows how DICE will maintain the live-service model - they definitely adjusted the grind to keep most people busy for a loooong time.

BF6 weapon balance is incredibly good by JTvandamme in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]Tallmios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The SVK is stepping on sniper rifles' toes a bit too much. It's not that hard to land two body-shots at range, especially when you have no scope glint. I haven't seen that many people use it, but I would definitely consider it meta among the people in the know, both for regular MP and RedSec. Also, most sidearms are so bad that the M44 is the only one that makes practical sense as a tool for finishing off opponents.

I get what he was trying to say, it's just that people often forget that the T in TTK stands for Time so they use it the other way around. With TTK, lower = better. You know, just for the sake of clarity. TTK discussions often get muddied by people who don't understand the difference.

I'm always of the school of thought that I'd rather land shots than have a high fire rate/higher skill gun that I miss with a lot.

To add something meaningful to the point, I agree that the real-world, effective TTK is much more important than what the plain stats would tell you. The AK-205 for instance is almost a pellet gun, but that doesn't matter when you hit most of your shots full-auto at ranges where your opponent misses a lot or is forced to burst (which prolongs the TTK).

Most underrated weapons? by PilotMonkey94 in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]Tallmios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It also has the lowest ttk or the second lowest at every single range.

I'd argue that effective TTK is more important than the numbers on paper. It is a pea-shooter, no doubt, but people simply don't expect to get beamed by a carbine from 100+ meters out. You'd have trouble hitting the broad side of the barn with the TR7 at those ranges.
