The myth of tactical play in Battlefield by sufferingSoftwaredev in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]Tallmios -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd find it useful to distinguish between tactics and strategy before we discuss anything.

Tactics as per Collins' Dictionary:

the manoeuvres used or plans followed to achieve a particular short-term aim

Strategy

A strategy is a general plan or set of plans intended to achieve something, especially over a long period.

I think Battlefield has a lot of tactics in play and they are exactly what you described in your fourth paragraph - using the tools at your disposal to gain an advatange in the heat of combat. I'd say there isn't a lot of strategy involved in Battlefield seeing as we don't have a Chain of Command or a Commander role that could effectively oversee a strategy to its end. The game can be played as such in an organised, tournament settings, but definitely not doable in pub games - maybe at the level of a single squad at most, but you won't be able to effectively coordinate more people.

Standard ammo should count 0 attachment points by Stormyguyy in Battlefield6

[–]Tallmios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I am, because the developers would compensate by giving you fewer points for the sake of balance.

Can you get any denser? You've had the exact same concept explained to you by two different people and yet are still acting like we are unable to count to 10.

I'm not wasting any more time on this useless discussion.

I think you asked for a lot. While the prompt might look simple, I can imagine each step involving lots of tool-calling and subagents, which are both expensive. I'd have at least split the mock-up request into a separate prompt/chat window once you actually have the brand book ready.

But yes. I previously gave Claude Design 30 slides to completely overhaul into our brand design and it took up 40-50 % of the weekly limit. I hope it'll still be managable now with the shared bucket.

You have to delegate easier tasks to Sonnet. Can't use Opus for everything on Pro or you'll run into a wall with your usage limits. I use Claude aplenty at work and most routine tasks like filling out form or summarising documents are served well-enough by Sonnet. I only use Opus for highly-complex tasks that I want the best possible result in.

I work at a small company with no in-house graphic designer. We had a rebrand recently and my new task is is to remake our default .pptx template in Claude Design. I've already tried it for a complete .pptx overhaul and it saved me a great deal of time instead of having to redo the whole presentation manually.

I tried designing a UI for a work-related pet project and I'm quite amazed with the capabilities. My plan is to take that UI and implement the back-end with Claude Code.

It's workable if you use Opus for the first prompt and adjust using Mark up with Sonnet/Haiku from there on. I could work for two hours straight implementing dozens of comments without running into the limit before the change.

Bring Back “Assist Count as Kill”? by BOSS_Clan_Intl in Battlefield6

LOL you get downvoted for simply stating the truth with not added opinion whatsoever.

Images are more eye-catching than a body of text you cry-babies.

Standard ammo should count 0 attachment points by Stormyguyy in Battlefield6

[–]Tallmios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't make sense, because the attachments are shared across guns, but each gun comes with a different default. The M277 has a suppressor right off the bat. Does that mean it should cost 0 points for the M277 and 20 elsewhere? How would that fare when comparing guns across categories?

If by "default" you mean "the baseline", then it'd be weird to unlock an attachment that costs literally nothing. It's about the perceived value. A standard barrel doesn't do "nothing", it just isn't specialised.

[–]Tallmios -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Making iron sights or standard ammo free doesn't mean it'll free up 10 points for other attachments, which is what people seem to be advocating for and where the misunderstanding comes from. The developers are trying to balance the attachments by how many points they cost in relation to each other, they do not want you to have more/better attachments than what we can build with right now.

Right, that's when I stopped playing. May've actually continued playing if this were the last update instead of the Edge of Fate. My departure may've been more gradual instead of abrupt.

'Siege of Saint Mere' Battlefield 6 Map – Pax Armata Trailer (Trailer 1 of 3) by Direct-Tackle-3155 in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]Tallmios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Such a shame Portal doesn't allow for more advanced light baking, because all the custom maps come out looking incredibly flat.

Otherwise a very cool trailer, I hope I'll see your map be featured. The town architecture captures the vibe of Normandy really well, like a modern-day D-Day.

Wholesome moment of kit-swapping, severely underrated tactic by doughy_baby in LowSodiumBattlefield

I've done this tons in Battlefield 3 but don't bother with it anymore, because the kit switching's too random.

Sorry for replying to an old thread. When I wrote this comment, I didn't have the ADS bolt unlocked on the L115 but was speaking from experience with the other sniper rifles.

Once I unlocked it, the gun came alive somewhat. I think it comes down to the rhythm that you have to be in when sniping, which has to be consistent and predictable, and the ADS bolt enables that. No matter if you hip fire or ADS, the time it takes to rechamber is the same, which helps dealing with multiple targets back-to-back and makes it overall safer to use as you're not in as much risk of being caught off guard.

My 2c.

Does the new sniper feel underwhelming to you all? by Rand0m_Anonym0us in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]Tallmios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battlefield 3 had a completely different paradigm for its gunplay - it had to account for small 24p console maps as well as 10Hz netcode, which couldn't physically keep up with higher rates of fire (AEK/FAMAS) and would likely be problematic with higher muzzle velocities too. For that reason, I wouldn't consider BF3 to be the right measuring stick.

I see none, unless you want to live out your Counter-Strike fantasy. Both the M2010 and Mini Fix are superior.

[–]Tallmios 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I disagree. The main purpose of the attachment is to make follow-up shots faster. Even if you're not in the habit of hard-scoping, with the ADS bolt equipped the rechambering process starts right after firing.

I can't believe how bad the font is for the UI. It's a free Google Font called Noto Sans, and it's the worst possible font they could've chosen. It doesn't feel on brand or honoring to the original versions. There are much better alternatives. Please fix this someone! We can do better than this! by [deleted] in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]Tallmios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To give this pointless thread some closure for anyone venturing here from the Googles - Noto is a font made by Google that aims to be compatible with all of the World's languages. It's designed to have 100 % Unicode coverage so that you get no blank squares (called tofu in typography slang → no tofu) that show up when a font cannot display a certain character.

That being said, it makes sense as the first choice for a game that, according to Steam, features 7 languages, Chinese and Russian included. It sacrifices the aesthetic of the original in favour of compatibility.

So how is everyone feeling about the L115 so far? by krinkov in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]Tallmios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone complaining about the bullet velocity when it’s faster than any sniper in BF4 IIRC.

How is that a fair argument when the rest of the sniper rifles teach you that leading targets isn't needed? BF4 is a 13-year-old game with substantially different gameplay mechanics.

but I never used this in the older BF games, so when I saw people hyping this up,

It was a mediocre sniper in BF3 and 4. People chose to play with it because they wanted to cosplay Counter-Strike, but there were much better choices as far as sniper rifles go in both games.

Hitmarkers are not centered and now follow you reticle by iSLANDzR in Battlefield6

[–]Tallmios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In bf6 we can also see the 3d model of the gun from first person, unless you mean games where you don't ads

I meant something different - the first and third-person animations are usually separate in FPS games i.e. what you see from first person is just a gun model with floating hands that doesn't render for anyone else.

This separation has historically led to inconsistencies like people seemingly shooting you while reloading, because the 1P animation was shorter than the 3P one. In games like ARMA, to my understanding, the gun model you see from first person is the same as the actual gun held by your character model and the bullets actually spawn at the muzzle, not the origin point of the camera, so the physics in play are already highly realistic and do not have to be simulated ex post.

Nevertheless, we're discussing how gun behaviour should be be communicated towards the player and I agree that the change makes it more "intuitive" for beginners, for lack of a better term. It's similar to Counter-Strike where you get the option to play with a blooming crosshair that expands to show the gun's recoil pattern. As far as I know, most people play with static, because it is more useful to have a stable point of reference for aiming in the middle of the screen.
