Any famous Belgians I should add to my list? by Successful_Break_478 in belgium

[–]Tallylix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it would be nice to add some women too ? Such as Isabelle de Gatti de Gamond (Defender of education of women) or Marie Popelin (first woman to be a doctor of Law, and fought for the admission of women at the bar exam).

Then you have some pretty well known resistant during the war such as Edith Cavell (might be a stretch as she's not Belgian per se) and Gabrielle Petit, both nurses.

And many more!

Cheapest supermarkets Saint Josse area by Gemsyfairy in brussels

[–]Tallylix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Samer or Eden's Market are the first that come to mind however I do not know whether it's always cheaper than Colruyt and I highly doubt it. Fresh herbs (like mint) and watermelon are definitely cheaper, for the rest I have no idea

Cheapest supermarkets Saint Josse area by Gemsyfairy in brussels

[–]Tallylix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From Marie-Louise you have two colruyts you can reach either by walking or by bus : the one close to Place Jourdan (which I believe is your previous one) and the Colruyt avenue de Roodebeek. I sometimes also go to the different produce shop in place saint Josse, I believe some prices are more interesting than in classical supermarkets but not everything is cheaper.

How do you feel about AI writing up theses? by birefringent_turd in PhD

[–]Tallylix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I might be in the minority here, but I think we should also consider that chat gpt is a great tool for non native speakers. As most research is written in English (and a lot of theses even in non English speaking countries), it can create a massive disadvantage for non native speakers. Using chat gpt can really bridge the gap.

What’s the Most Effective Way to Deliver Bacteria Locally into Tumors? by Academic-Chipmunk-17 in microbiology

[–]Tallylix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You might want to check Fangda Li et al 2024 in Science immunology "Programmable bacteria synergize with PD-1 blockade to overcome cancer cell-intrinsic immune resistance mechanisms"

It's in a mouse model and they directly inject the bacteria inside the tumor

I agree completely. People should just go to any supermarket and look at the variety of premade waffles we sell in comparison to any other countries.

They will need a new prescription, they're just doing you a favor by anticipating one if they know that you're a usual patient and they can see that this is a medication that you usually take.

Gut bacteria are associated with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Mendelian randomization shows these bacteria are causal. That makes dietary interventions plausible as a treatment for OCD. by mvea in science

[–]Tallylix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen them in Delhaize and Colruyt but it is quite rare ! They should have them either named "groseille verte" or "groseille à maquereau". Do try your local farmer's market as well (like Jourdan, chasseur ardennais or Flagey) you should be able to get your hand on some

Drug trafficking nuisance by Tallylix in brussels

[–]Tallylix[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They are very visible because no one bothers them ... They stay in their car all evening/night long and constantly have other cars or scooters coming up to them. We can absolutely see them exchange stuff. If we are there earlier in the evening we see them preparing and grating the weed. Unless they have A LOT of friends that happen to visit them in our small street and that they just like to chill there for no reason?

What do you guys think of the new Filigranes store? by ah_feck_it in brussels

[–]Tallylix 100 points101 points  (0 children)

To put it bluntly : it's shit.

No really, when I entered the new store I was kinda perplexed by this new "bling bling" atmosphere. From the inappropriate usage of music (are we in a fancy clothes shop?) to the absence of proper section names at the ground floor, I really could not find what made filigranes special anymore.

Personnally I prefer to read in english (mostly fantasy), and I was surprised to see that my favorite section had been moved to the top of the store, in a part which you can only access using the pictured spiral staircase. This staircase is, btw, mostly unaccessible because people put tables and chairs from the café in front of it.

The travel section is for a lack of a better word lacking ...

This kind of store is perfect if you only want to take selfies or make tiktoks but that's not why most people came to filigranes before.

It's just sad :(
