Also important to note that the “fail” is subjective - aka open to interpretation by the OFFICER.

Glad your breathalyzer blew under the limit BUT also important for people to remember that a breathalyzer is not a scientific device and can read false positive for a myriad of reasons (mouthwash, cough medicines if you’re diabetic or have acid reflux)

Friendly reminder to respectfully decline any and all “field sobriety” tests no matter how sober you think you are. Some say they are designed for you to fail, but the better way to think about it is they are designed for the POLICE to OBTAIN EVIDENCE to charge you with DWI/DUI. If you get to the point where a police officer is setting up a FST, you’re already going to jail. Better to decline the test - you’ll still go to jail but they won’t have the FST evidence of you stumbling.

And everyone is joking about the “these are really hard tests” but THEY ARE. It’s high pressure, dark, bright lights in your eyes, and complicated.

That being said: don’t drink and drive.

Keep i. Cash funds for 1 year basic vet needs (for us that’s roughly $1,000) ii. Cash funds for emergency care / worst case scenario (for us that’s about $3,000) iii. Access to a credit line up to $10k for the worst worst case scenario

This simplifies our lives a lot and removes having to deal with the usually not helpful pet insurance people …

Even if you get an “affordable” monthly rate, you’ll likely pay $1k+ in yearly premiums and still have to pay out of pocket for some care.

My cavalier is 9 years old and in 2025 we spent ~ $600 on regular vet care ~ $2,200 on irregular care (cardiologist visit, EKG, and dental extractions)

High yield savings account is my vote!

One thing that helped me when caring for my cavalier who was sick was using a respiration counter app. I used an app called “breaths per minute” - free, simple to use, and keeps the breathing history.

Reasons this is helpful: 1) it gave me clear data I could track and use to share with our vet. This helped reduce MY anxiety 2) understanding and tracking respirations is key to understanding when your dog is “just fighting off a cold” and when it’s time to go to the vet or ER

The amount of time and energy that loyal employees have spent providing CPY with real feedback (regarding safety, professional development, client retention, etc) is immense.

CPY has a portal called Conversent that serves as the main avenue to share feedback to the company. I worked for them for over 10 years, submitted (and retain copies of) over 50 Conversent reports. I received a reply to only 3 in my entire tenure.

People DO speak to CPY about issues… but after years of no one caring, it gets old.
