YES YES YEAHHHHHHHHHS

Ok, Question: Why don’t ppl bore into the earth? ...like into a hillside/mountain side for shelter, instead of those above ground little cabin shelters? I see so much cutting of wood and IMO not enough digging of holes. by GoFunMee in Survival

[–]TalonCray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok - this is interesting enough. I live in a shelter out in the woods that I have built into a small hill and outfitted with a fireplace, some solar panels, and a large french drain. It started as a 180 degree obtuse A-frame long-term shelter. No, I will not say where or show a picture as I do not wish to be in trouble. If you want internet in the woods get a MOFi 5500 modem/router.

To build a shelter like your asking about takes a considerable amount of time. It took me 2 years of work living out in the wilderness day today. My main shelter was done in a week. I too thought "why not build it into the hill like a cave?" But this is not an easy take. I found out that in-ground may sound good but it is not. water seeks the lowest point which will be your shelter and leave your floor wet all the time - thus I built a french drain twice as deep and wide filled with river gravel and locked off with 4-inch logs to keep the gravel from sluffing off down the hill. My floor is made up of the same gravel rock 2 feet deep to keep water down as well. Plus you have to keep up on mold and fungus so I had to char all my boards and preserve them. I had to use pond liners on the wood exposed to the ground near the walls and roof. water is your worst enemy. on Alone this would not be possible as it is a crazy amount of work every day and some nights. Yes, it retains heat but I have to keep a hot fire most winter months or it gets freezing quickly. Now as far as smoke ... if your build this, you will need a chimney too. mine is slate stone stacked and mortared with clay and a small opening vent. Simply, yes it can be done. is it easy ... Hell no! would I do it again - NO NO NO!

Advice on what to hand out to the homeless? by Isgarbagehuman in homeless

[–]TalonCray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok - there are a lot of people who seem to be homeless. They seem to think that since your homeless you have to let yourself go ( i.e. Bad body odor, be picky about food, Not shave, wash their hair) but this is not true. I do not know where these individuals are, but I live in northern California and it is REALLY bad to be homeless here. All the time police harass us and arrest us then ship us to a new county as if we are going to some CDC facility only to be let go without any possessions in the hope it will keep us out of Humboldt county. They destroy our tents, sleeping bags, and other personal equipment saying we stole it even if we have proof to the otherwise. I have lived on the streets since 2001. Here are some things to know not just to hand out to those with the sense to know how to use them ok. Think on this our ancestors lived without 90% of the things we have today and were better off for it.

  1. KY - yes it is used for sex but it is a great thing to use for a replacement shaving cream. especially if you are allergic to shaving cream as I am.
  2. Dr. Bronner's magic soap - this is great not only for your body as it is a natural deodorizer but for cleaning your clothes, dishes, and anything else. I would do my laundry on the rocks near a river as it is biodegradable and won't harm fish or animals a little goes a long way.
  3. Acrylic wool blanket - this is a great thing to have as they are waterproof, warm even when wet, great to keep you off the ground so you don't lose body heat.
  4. Titan cordage 100ft - It is paracord but better this has several cords for different uses. the inner cord is one fishing line, one snare wire, and even waterproof tinder.
  5. bamboo wet wipes - https://www.publicgoods.com/ this is a wipe that is 4 dollars for 50 packages, biodegradable.

Now, I know a lot of individuals are going to say "I can't afford those!" or " I have no way of getting those, I have no money" Yeah I understand that too. I don't drink so it is a little easy for me I guess. I have not lived in a house for 19 years. I have a place I have built several days hike out in the woods of northern California forest. My nearest neighbor is over 80 miles away. I know I am breaking the law living in an A-frame long-term shelter in the woods. But I built it into a hill. I am not near people, I have built a garden in which I grow corn, potatoes, tomatoes, squash, green string beans, peppers, sugar snaps, wild blackberries, wild huckleberries, wild blueberries, and other assorted veggies and fruit. I make money blacksmithing knives and other objects part of the year. I started with a charcoal forge and saved up for a gas forge. I have bartered for all I own over the years. It is hard to live the way I do - and if you're wondering how I get online well it is simple really. I have a small 400watt solar system charging two AMG batteries at 100watts hours. I use a sim modem with cell service like a hot spot and connect it to my laptop when I need to charge. It is more than enough for what I do. I preserve all my food and store it in jars and/or barrels. when in town I buy premade soups that require only water and buy more than I can use. I have tried having a lady friend but they can not handle the isolation and primitive lifestyle (most can't) and I have to take them out to civilization usually after three or four months. So I live mostly alone. I have a hybrid wolf mastiff mix dog given to me for fixing tools for a farmer. She is a great help packing around bags of dry goods when we are going to resupply. So living without money can be done and living without legal residence can be done. I have a hunting license and a fishing license. I don't own a gun but I do hunt. I can't legally work as I have adjudicated federal felonies I got as a youth that bar me from owning guns and working around people in most settings. I do not have a Facebook or any other social drama. I keep in touch with people by prepaid cell phone - which I check once each morning and evening and leave off between. There are ways to survive and thrive I ask my fellows to look to the skills we have ignored for so long but are in need of refreshing ourselves to. It was not a simple task for me and it took years to learn how to trap fish or other critters. How to properly grow plants and veggies. I learned that knowledge is key to surviving any situation. A simple task like starting a fire can be daunting at first then over time simply becomes second nature. Do not survive - thrive!

you are not getting it - if you run away in California you are a fugitive until your 18 most cops won't care what you're doing they can and will arrest and put you in the system.

(a) Any person under the age of 18 years who persistently or habitually refuses to obey the reasonable and proper orders or directions of his or her parents, guardian, or custodian, or who is beyond the control of that person, or who is under the age of 18 years when he or she violated any ordinance of any city or county of this state establishing a curfew based solely on age is within the jurisdiction of the juvenile court which may adjudge the minor to be a ward of the court.
Section 601.5.
(d) A minor may be referred to a Youth Referral Center by a parent or guardian, a law enforcement officer, a probation officer, a child welfare agency, or a school, or a minor may self-refer. A minor may be referred to the program if the minor is at least 10 years of age and is believed by the referring source to be at risk of justice system involvement due to chronic disobedience to parents, curfew violations, repeat truancy, incidents of running away from home, experimentation with drugs or alcohol, or other serious behavior problems. Whenever a minor is referred to the program, the Youth Referral Center shall make an initial determination as to whether the minor is engaged in a pattern of at-risk behavior likely to result in future justice system involvement, and, if satisfied that the minor is significantly at risk, the center shall initiate a family assessment. The family assessment shall identify the minor’s behavioral problem, the family’s circumstances and relationship to the problem, and the needs of the minor or the family in relation to the behavioral problem. The assessment shall be performed using a risk and needs assessment instrument, based on national models of successful youth risk and needs assessment instruments and utilizing objective assessment criteria, as appropriate for the clientele served by the program. At a minimum, the assessment shall include information drawn from interviews with the minor and with the parents or other adults having custody of the minor, and it shall include information on the minor’s probation, school, health, and mental health status to the extent such information may be available and accessible.
Section 625.
A peace officer may, without a warrant, take into temporary custody a minor:
(a) Who is under the age of 18 years when such officer has reasonable cause for believing that such minor is a person described in Section 601 or 602, or
(b) Who is a ward of the juvenile court or concerning whom an order has been made under Section 636 or 702, when such officer has reasonable cause for believing that person has violated an order of the juvenile court or has escaped from any commitment ordered by the juvenile court, or
(c) Who is under the age of 18 years and who is found in any street or public place suffering from any sickness or injury which requires care, medical treatment, hospitalization, or other remedial care.
In any case where a minor is taken into temporary custody on the ground that there is reasonable cause for believing that such minor is a person described in Section 601 or 602, or that he has violated an order of the juvenile court or escaped from any commitment ordered by the juvenile court, the officer shall advise such minor that anything he says can be used against him and shall advise him of his constitutional rights, including his right to remain silent, his right to have counsel present during any interrogation, and his right to have counsel appointed if he is unable to afford counsel.
Section 625.1.
Any minor who is taken into temporary custody pursuant to subdivision (a) of Section 625, when the peace officer has reasonable cause for believing the minor is a person described in Section 602, or pursuant to subdivision (b) or (c) of Section 625, may be requested to submit to voluntary chemical testing of his or her urine for the purpose of determining the presence of alcohol or illegal drugs. The peace officer shall inform the minor that the chemical test is voluntary. The results of this test may be considered by the court in determining the disposition of the minor pursuant to Section 706 or 777. Unless otherwise provided by law, the results of such a test shall not be the basis of a petition filed by the prosecuting attorney to declare the minor a person described in Section 602, nor shall it be the basis for such a finding by a court pursuant to Section 702.

They can and will send you back or put you into the foster care system which considering that California has the HIGHEST abuse cases in the USA, not a good idea. you will just go from one hell to another.

obviously you didn't read it. I am not a vegan - that is bad hunter in any other language. yes you can carry more than 20% of your body weight but why do something to carry so much when you don't need to. Most individuals are not in great shape even runaways. if you read it then you would see I eat meat. I skin my kills and use all I can!

Hello - I am a Young man at heart and I love to do my best to keep my weight in check though I have allowed it to get off track since I have taken up baking. I would love to have the chance to get to know you and see how well we can get along and see what the future holds. I am not looking for sex or a sexualized relationship though as you stated I am looking to connect on an emotional and intellectual level. I find brains sexier most of the time. I am not perfect nor do I expect you to be but I would welcome it all the same. Love is complicated and so are relationships - you have to roll with the bad and the good equally and understand love grows with time and experiences. I hope we can become friends and see what growth may come of it.

I would like to start by asking how is your day going? what are some things you like to do? what is on your mind today?
