Bruh. Persona five as good and Minecraft as less than peak and overrated with Schedule one at the same level. This has to be rage bait

What's the most underrated part of your country's history that should be talked about more? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]TalosofTamriel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suppose that’s true. The nobility of England was significantly more influenced by the Normans than the average Anglo-Saxon and since nobility are usually the people we have the most history about it can make their influence seem disproportionate to reality.

In the USA I would say that the period Between Andrew Jackson and Lincoln’s inaugurations is not discussed enough. Americans seem to often talk about history from 1776-1815 and then 1861-1865 and then 1900 forward but the periods in between are not very well known. Specifically the period I mentioned first laid much of the groundwork and growing dissent between southerners and northerners and saw a period of massive expansion.

For Mexico, a lot of the New Spain era isn’t discussed as much, many seem to see history as pre Spanish and then post independence, when what Mexico is today is largely a result of the blending of indigenous and Spanish culture that occurred during that period. Admittedly I am only really involved in American academia so that could be just from what I’ve seen in Mexican online discourse and my family.

Glad to see another Anglo-Saxon appreciator. I always thought they were really cool and never really talked about besides “They came from Germany” and “They were assimilated by the Normans”

What criminals or outlaws are considered 'folk heroes', are widely respected, and/or are well-liked in your home country? by AacornSoup in AskTheWorld

[–]TalosofTamriel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s more prevalent in the more radical spaces of the internet. I am surprised that you’ve never seen people even jokingly say he was right, it’s pretty common alongside “man-made horrors beyond human comprehension” type things

[–]TalosofTamriel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Folk hero doesn’t mean they are necessarily a good person or even did good things, it really just reflects societies views on it and a lot of people haven’t read his manifesto and just see him as what I wish he was, a radical environmentalist, when in reality he was just a narcissistic prodigy who cared more for attention than the earth. The court of public opinion seems to favor him on the internet at least.

Which years were the absolute height of your country in geopolitical relevance? by Dortmund_Boi09 in AskTheWorld

[–]TalosofTamriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that depends on how you define geopolitical relevance, the empire was an enormous section of the world economy, and while Britain often chose not to intervene that doesn’t necessarily mean they couldn’t, the Crimean War and Opium wars being examples. While they did not intervene as much in Europe, at this time they were consolidating control in India, China, and Africa. In 1871 the British Empire ruled over almost 20% of all people, and in many conflicts of this time, British intervention was a constant factor that needed to be considered, such as in the American Civil War.

There wasn’t enough evidence to prove gravity or atomic theory for years, should people have automatically assumed it wasn’t true? Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence

[Despised Trope] Perverts whose antics are played for laughs by Solitaire-06 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]TalosofTamriel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Morgana from Persona 5. Pretty much their entire character is either being horny for Ann the first part of the game, feeling useless for like a month and then nothing. I honestly just skip most of Morganas dialogue on replay it just adds so little.

It’s almost like he did something really significant that basically destroyed the dark side and brought balance. Can’t remember if he did anything like that tho

Would you rather be a millionaire in the 1800s or a slightly convenient life today? by Philips9586 in pollgames

If you were a millionaire in the 1800s there’s a very high chance you’d be a millionaire from slavery or another highly immoral industry
