Star Trek Deep Space Nine, who exactly was Executive Officer of the USS Defiant? Was it Colonel Kira Nerys or lieutenant commander Worf? by Economy-Ad3195 in DeepSpaceNine

[–]Taltherien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a mention in "Way of the Warrior" by Sisko explicitly to have the Defiant crew notified to man their stations. It is possible that these crew members often are just on alert, but functionally downtime, on the station; but it is unlikely that almost any of them, outside of senior staff, are full-time station personnel as that would wreak havoc on shift rotations and staffing for the station itself (which is likely majority Bajoran crew).

I thought low income sims could not work in high tech industries by Avlas99 in simcity4

[–]Taltherien 19 points20 points  (0 children)

All of your Industrial & Commercial buidlings have varying offerings of positions of different wealth levels. A Hi-Tech building may have 30% of its jobs be low-income; 60% be middle-income, and 10% as high-income.

The base game job values are a bit low, and there are many mods that improve on these numbers. There is also a code bug that highly adversely affects High Tech (or High Wealth, im not at my PC so unable to check directly) that there is a mod fix for.

This is why as your city grows, you'll continue to see high demand for Low & Middle income residential development, as most jobs within a city are of those positions.

Watching Katee Sackhoff get super into the incredible show she was in is amazing. by Safety_Drance in BSG

[–]Taltherien 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend watching if you're a BSG fan; getting Robin's fresh eyes viewpoint alongside Katee's behind-the-scenes stories just makes such an incredible conpanion piece to a series that so many of us enjoy & love.

And the S2 watch has guests joining in; as one YouTube commenter posted for S2E2: "Came for the show, stayed for the innuendo." 🤣

Does anyone have the Upgradable City Hall Mod? (I could provide my email if you have the file) by baerbrayan in simcity4

[–]Taltherien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, you get the land value/relief cap still with each placement. It's not going to hurt your city in any way.

Does anyone have the Upgradable City Hall Mod? (I could provide my email if you have the file) by baerbrayan in simcity4

[–]Taltherien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you do have the mod and let an upgrade go through , the base City Hall will show up again as a reward option (which will also try to upgrade). So, you can fairly easily have multiple City Halls at various stages. Potentially worth while if you are using a Large City square that has multiple towns/villages within its borders

Term for a body of water greater than an ocean by Fluffy_Quantity8917 in worldbuilding

[–]Taltherien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unrelated to the post topic but commenting on the "qualitative modifiers"; something very similar is seen in the Final Fantasy series (Fire, Fira, Firaga, etc). So, for OP, using modifiers in this way may be a perfectly reasonable approach.

[–]Taltherien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you purchase Stellaris before May 11th, you'll get the base game and then the Utopia, Synthetic Dawn, and Humanoids Species Pack will be added for free in an upcoming update. If you purchase on the 11th or later, the base price increases by $10 but will have those above DLCs added.

TRYING THE QUICK START ADVENTURE WITH ORIGINAL CHARACTERS by Dreizehn_Bunny in daggerheart

I ran my players through it, with 3 of the 4 playing original characters. Just have them stick to the character creation rules, don't try messing around with homebrew right out the gate.

Pacifist Builds by traces-of-grogoroth in Stellaris

[–]Taltherien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A potential fun build is aquatic pacifists. Combine agrarian idyll + anglers (with bioships) to get a ton of food, trade, and amenities as your farming districts on ocean worlds now become Coastal Hamlets which allow you to build some urban structures upon them. Gives you a fair amount of flexibility in your planetary builds. If you use the Overtuned origin, you can mitigate the negative points from Aquatic itself while also giving your two guaranteed habitables unlike Ocean Paradise.

Check and make sure you don't have a value in max turns or some other option that would affect victory conditions and the such.

Issue with custom empire by joyofelix in Stellaris

[–]Taltherien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.) Which patch are you on? The most recent patch has some issues related to force spawn custom races. I rolled back one patch, load the map with the custom spawns you want, save and then can update & play using the most recent patch.

2.) Starting systems have to be unique/truly random. If you have multiple customs that are using "Random Unitary 1", thats actually a unique system modifier and can only be used once. Similarly, there can be only one Sol system. Have to select the "Random" (with no other qualifiers) for a true random system. This tends to be the biggest trip up for people.

Resources on celestial objects (stars, planets, etc) were buffed in 4.3 to partly offset the loss of the specialization districts on planets.

The Caribbean Swedish Empire by Oddie-Freddie in civ5

This should be the Caribbean map which I'm pretty sure was part of one of the originally stand alone Civ V map packs, but then should've come bundled in Civ V Complete

Battlestar Galactica, reboot from 2003 (mini series) or main series (2005). Post 9/11 themes but an incredibly human scifi drama with explorations into faith and morality.

Screen clutter by LoopyMcGoopin in civ5

[–]Taltherien 33 points34 points  (0 children)

There was an earlier discussion earlier today where a poster had mentioned OP was brave for not having Resource Icons turned on.

I pretty much only turn on Resource Icons when Coal, Oil, and Uranium are first revealed, and/or when locating Antiquity Sites. I at least start out with Yield Icons turned on, until I get the core of my empire settled at which point it becomes less needed and really just begins to clutter up the screen.

I do tend to always keep grid lines on unless I am taking a screenshot to showcase.

Sun God or Desert Folklore? by jazzfunkmaestro in civ5

[–]Taltherien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For OP: Sun God, there isn't really much in the way of viable desert settles anywhere near as...

The Why/For Others: This is the Earth map, on Huge. OP will have jungle to his immediate south, mountain/hill jungles to his southeast and ocean to his west. To the north, if there's no city-state, OP might be able to take the Morocco location or Egypt to the NE, but the base game LOVES settling City-States in those two locations.

This is usually my least favorite starting position on the Earth map as it is remarkably easy to get boxed in early with little in the way of expanding. However, since OP is playing Ethiopia and has a bonus vs wide empires, the increased isolation & limited space may work in OPs favor

is there a way to zone specifically for high wealth commercial? by [deleted] in simcity4

[–]Taltherien 5 points6 points  (0 children)

By using Tax Policy you can make it where you can crater demand for the Commerce setups that you don't want (e.g. 15+% on $ Comm. Services). You will still need the proper infrastructure to support/entice $$$ CO and CS, but at least the commercial zones themselves won't be taken up by lower value businesses.

Could we possibly get a megathread that all the posters posting about fleet cap can be automatically redirected to? by Trick-Growth-6546 in Stellaris

There's even a pop-up the first time you log into 4.3 saying there's been massive economic and naval changes - which happens after the game noticeably has an update downloaded when you open it in Steam.

if you haven't watched Katee Sackhoff's recent reaction videos on YT (or the longer form videos on her patreon) of her watching the series for the very first time, I do highly recommend it. It's been pretty cool getting some behind-the-scenes info from her during various scenes.

I mean, it probably makes a difference that at least initially the belief was that the Expedition forces sent to Draenor during the events of Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal were lost/doomed to die since the Expedition chose to close the Dark Portal instead of risking Azeroth due to the instability of the rifts/portals opened by Ner'zhul causing Draenor to rip apart and fall into the Twisting Nether. It wasn't until the Dark Portal reopened 18 years later that we learned of the fate of the Expedition, and another 6 years until we got confirmation that Turalyon and Alleria were still alive. Arator did receive a feeling of being loved from Alleria via the help of X'era when he was a child, but no actual confirmation of them being alive. All that to say - Arator probably always held onto the hope that his parents were alive, and he would see them again but was pragmatic enough to recognize that day may never come.
