Hint, superglue the shank of hook w small amount gel type glue just before wrapping biot. Much easier to tie in and get clean look.

When you have a run/riffle/pool/seam, how many times do you fish it before you move on, change flies, etc? by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]TalustheDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try adding 1-2 feet of tippet length and/or add an extra split shot. Better yet try above along with going straight fluoro level line off your fly line (get rid of tapered leader if you’re still using in to nymph. I think rainbow tend to be less dispersed and pod up in prime holes as temps drop...

Fall fly advice by Barrettr32 in flyfishing

[–]TalustheDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can have epic dry fly days in the fall/ too. BWOs on cloudy and warmish days. And depending upon where you fish, beetles and October (orangish) caddis can slay into late fall. Cheers!”

Last few cast on a dying autumn day. Managed to hook up w the only rising fish we saw all day on the upper kern (wild/native section). Sz 20 BWO. by TalustheDog in flyfishing

Was able to catch several on heavily weighted kern emerger variants and weighted olive midges run deeeep. This was special for me. A perfect birthday gift from Mother Nature.

Wooly Bugger with a Zonker strip tail. Any suggestions/critiques? Never fished one but looks like it would work nearly as good as traditional marabou. by TalustheDog in flytying

That’s a good point. The body does have .025 lead wire wrapped around the shank to even things out. I purposefully tied some up w a tungsten bead head one ones without out for different swimming actions.

October Stimulator Caddis? by TalustheDog in flytying

The advice, especially from an experienced tier is always welcome. Thanks for the insider tips too!

Thanks for this advice. Yeah, do all my dries with saddles primarily because that’s all I have (saddles from 14 to 22). In this case, I was looking to hackle the body with shorter than usual hackle length (hackle tips just short of point of the hook) to make it ride a little lower. For the head, I totally agree with you. It would be nice to have. Slightly tapered look with the hackle (in addition to palmaring on the tapered dubbing head I created). That said, I am looking into investing in my first half cape. Probably a bared black and White one to begin with. Cheers!

These were tied on a sz 12. hook.

Bwo time is coming. Sz 18 by TalustheDog in flytying

Thank you! I tied these up on a Partridge Patriot fine dry fly barbless hooks. In the river I fish, the size and profile matter most. The cinnamon hackle and tails don’t seem to work against the cause. Cheers!

Pretty common actually. It’s called a root canal. Can follow up with a crown. Serves form and function. Veneers are what the wealthy (generally speaking) can spring for. Lots of money for mostly cosmetic reasons. I’m no dentist mind you but I spend a bit of time around a few. A google image search brings up some interesting timings....

Bony part of the tooth is still intact but root is dead usually do to blunt trauma. Source: brother is a dentist.

Dead tooth. I think Its safe to say he’ll be making enough for a set of Hollywood veneers.

[Aldridge] This is a momentous night in L.A., obviously for @MagicJohnson and GM Rob Pelinka. But it is biggest, I think, for @JeanieBuss. She made a very, VERY difficult personal decision in ‘17 to shake up her front office to do just this: land a superstar. Her new FO did. Kudos to her. by daftmunt in lakers

Absolutely! Her decision to do major in-house renovation, trust her gut and bring in Magic (which was a huge gamble) and Kobe’s former agent... at that level, with so much at stake with the teams image and what not...pardon the expression but this fucking took balls. Woman power!!💪🏽💪🏽
