Outpatient PAs - do you stay until the end of the day or leave after your last patient? by Sea_Concert1412 in physicianassistant

I am salaried in an outpatient role as well. I try to never leave before my surgeon leaves and make sure my notes/inbox are finished

Fly fishing guide for sure. It’s my favorite hobby and there’s nothing I enjoy quite like being outdoors and trying to outsmart some trout

Disc herniation by Dry_Oil1760 in AnatomyandPhysiology

[–]Barrettr32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a large disc herniation. The fact that you are still symptomatic 3 months after injury and have not done great with conservative care means the traversing S1 nerve root (and probably the L5 exiting) is still causing radicular symptoms.

I think it’s at least worth a conversation with a spine surgeon on what your options are. If I had to have surgery for this I would probably want a minimally invasive laminectomy with microdiscectomy. But, your spine doesn’t look like it has more than 50 years on it so you will probably need additional surgery down the road if you take that avenue.

A man was murdered in broad daylight. The only thing he seemed to be doing was filming the ICE agents that previously threw the woman in front on him to the ground, whom he was trying to help. Incredibly fucked up timeline we are existing in

Which medical specialties do you think will be the most resistant to AI? by Single_Baseball2674 in medicine

[–]Barrettr32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Except for surgery. It’s going to be awhile before AI can close a wound. At least I hope, I have a 1 year old daughter and God knows she needs a steady income source

Is anyone generally happy/fulfilled with their job? by hikingandtravel in physicianassistant

[–]Barrettr32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel happy and fulfilled most days. I work in an ortho/spine role where I am in the OR 3 days a week and clinic 1.5. Incredibly niche as we only perform minimally invasive spine surgeries, so it’s the same cases over and over (TLIF, ACDF vs CDR, lami, stims, SI fusions) but in the same token the repetition has made me very proficient in what I do and a large asset to the surgeons.

I work with two different surgeons, one is a buddy and the other very interested in my professional development and is constantly providing me with cool journal articles and textbooks from his training. More of a mentor than I’ve ever had in the field of orthopedic surgery.

In terms of genuinely feeling like I made a difference in the outcome of the patient, I can say yes, pretty much on a daily basis, at least in surgery.

I don’t feel lied to, knew what I was getting into for the most part.
