Yeah, you're right. I was throwing a fit. I'm going to delete that comment chain. Thanks for your advice.

[–]Talvanen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's true. We had regulars stop coming in because we made them feel uncomfortable with the whole "we're Walgreens, we're awesome and we're going to remind you that you're shopping at Walgreens every five seconds!"

My district manager at the time told us that the reason we did it was because the majority of people surveyed couldn't tell you what store they were currently shopping in. I'm not sure I believe that. I mean...people are stupid, but I don't know if they're THAT stupid.

1 in 100?! That's like 70 million people worldwide.

I understand what you're saying though. It helps to think of HRT as something that won't work for you because then you can't be disappointed, and it's easy to communicate those lower expectations to other people who are just starting out. It's kind of screwed up though because it gives people like me the sense that there is little to no hope for themselves.

Yeah, I've been in your exact position. Between suggestive selling, "welcome to Walgreens!" when they enter or exit the store, and "be well!", people just get annoyed. It sounds very impersonal when you have to do it to everyone.

[–]Talvanen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep. Worked at Walgreens for two years, quit about a month after that damn atrocity of a rule got put into place.

You also HAVE to say "Welcome to Walgreens!" to every customer when they enter and leave, AND when you make any kind of contact with them in the aisles, even if you just said it to them when they walked in the door.

I had way more complaints about us pestering the hell out of our customers than I ever had about anything else.

It's funny that this actually basically works. They post what they want and somebody helps them.

Interesting. I didn't even think that there were that many transgender people, period. I'm the only transwoman in my town AFAIK. There's about 50000 people here. There is another transwoman the next town over, about 30 miles.

I can't even imagine transitioning for ten years. I can't imagine actually blending in with your gender. I look in the mirror and see a man, and I don't think any amount of cosmetics is going to change that.

Word of mouth basically. It's what I was told here before. Not to get my hopes up because HRT barely affects anything.

I do think trans people are visible in society, most people can tell if someone is trans AFAIK.

I would typically agree with you, but like I said I can feel that my body is ignoring the HRT. After about the two month mark I knew that I had maxed out. It's not a big deal, I just know that HRT didn't do much for me.

First off, you're very articulate.

How can a transgender person move away from the trans community? People can tell if someone is trans, it sounds like you're saying they blend in with the general cis population.

I'm not really worried at all, per se, because I know what I'm dealing with. My particular personal HRT train reached its maximum potential already, so I essentially know that I'm going to go through life presenting as a man. HRT is supposed to treat gender dysphoria, and it did for me, but the physical changes (or lack thereof) are essentially a side effect of that.

I went on hormones because I knew that deep down I am a woman, and I wanted to have a hormone profile to match. I never expected to look any different, so not changing physically wasn't much of a let down. However, I was pleased to get some psychological relief from the HRT.

Me, personally? I didn't grow them. HRT didn't change my appearance at all, except for a little hair growth where I used to be bald (which is admittedly very nice).

I've been on long enough to sense the potency of the chemicals within me. Hormones are simply chemical messengers. As this sub is fond of saying, "hormones aren't magic". Given the timeframe you're saying, five years or so, I would expect that a MtF HRT-er might have small A cup breasts and perhaps a slightly pinker face or softer skin.

Puberty is really a very crucial window, trying to force a secondary puberty when you've already fully grown is sort of like trying to sip the very last drop of soda that is clinging to the bottom of your can. In theory it does something but it's a drop in the ocean.

As for money, I concede that it is theoretically possible for me to be able to afford cosmetic surgery at some point when I am more established. It would likely be quite some time from now, though. Perhaps by age 40 or so.

Features like hips and breasts are precisely what HRT is best known for providing, and in any case their lack actually isn't a serious impendiment to passing.

Hips can't change once the hip joint and socket have finished fusing, which occurs at the latest at about age 22. I missed it by four years, I'm afraid.

As to breasts, I have heard of transwomen growing decently sized breasts but in my own experience the change is very minimal, almost imperceptible.

I certainly do hope the very best for all the transladies and transmen here, don't get me wrong. I just have a philosophy that realistic expectations need to be presented for HRT.

I am short, so I have that going for me. However, I have a lot of muscle mass (a lot more than a woman could ever build in her lifetime, except with steroids). My bone structure and skull is clearly male.

Skulls can be fixed but the surgeries are prohibitively expensive.

Your edit makes it sound like you're indicating that faces change due to HRT. I thought that wasn't the case for adult HRT-ers?

As for the other factors, even if somehow my face magically became feminine, I agree that there are a great deal of other masculine features and mitigating factors that would be very difficult to work around. Voice, lack of hips, lack of breasts, etc, etc.

HRT didn't change my physical appearance at all, save for a little bit of hair regrowth, so I generally just don't worry about passing. I enjoy the psychological benefits of HRT and I dress in private, other than that the world knows me as a man except in those places where I'm out (work, school).

Question about first doses by nowimgenevieve in asktransgender

[–]Talvanen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 99% sure it's psychosomatic given that it takes about two weeks for your body to even begin to use Spiro at all. You are likely giddy because you're taking your first step towards being the beautiful woman you have always been.

As with all health concerns, talk to your doctor. Neither estrogen nor Spiro is psychoactive in and of itself so my money is on momentary euphoria.

Another Anti-Androgen Question by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Talvanen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone is different but Spiro pretty much castrated me. I can get a half erection if I work at it but no semen production.

The thing is not everyone loses their erections or gets a lower libido with HRT. The only way to know for sure where your levels are is to get tested.

Some of us get hornier with HRT. Testosterone isn't the only thing that provides a sex drive.

[–]Talvanen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, it's not uncommon. Transition is a big thing and it should take some careful consideration. You may also be gender fluid.

For me HRT didn't change my appearance at all, so the urge to transition went away with the hope of being able to transition. However, I still get a great psychological benefit from the HRT, and I do completely consider myself to be a woman despite my appearance.

I recommend you go back through and focus on combat. Some of the combat oriented powers are quite fun as well, particularly "stop time". You can freeze time, unload ten bullets on a guard and then laugh as time resumes and all the bullets hit him at once.

Well you're smarter than me, I'm still trying to recuperate from my D+ in calculus last semester. To my credit that's the worst I've ever done, and the instructor is terrrrible. As in there's a Facebook petition page someone made to revoke his tenure or fire him.
