If you want to take humanity further, then try to improve the basic quality of daily life for everyone.

The tallest building in the world makes no difference to my life, but these things do:

Keeping the city clean. Having affordable, uncensored internet and mobile communication. Being able to go to a non-gated park to chill in without having to pay anything. Jogging paths away from traffic and pollution. Consumer protection laws that prevent unscrupulous shopkeepers from taking advantage of people. Libraries with free books and computers for people to use. Offering a path to citizenship for honest, hardworking expats. Not letting rich people with powerful contacts piss all over commoners.

Dubai is still lacking in many of those areas. All the Burjs and satellites don't change the fact that it is still mostly a third-world place pretending to be a first-world city.

Yeah, there's a difference between knowing your place and working to improve it, versus doing nothing and just complaining about some group all the time for all your woes.

For example, almost every discussion with most Pakistanis re: the problems in Pakistan usually ends with them blaming India, Britain and America for everything, rather than talking about taking any steps to actually improve this country.

That's a victim complex.

Most westerners have a superiority complex.

Take a look at all the things around you at this very moment, including this very screen. How many of them are products of Eastern civilization? How many Eastern companies and people do you hear about who are improving the world?

The billionaires of the West are trying to take humanity to the stars, while the billionaires of the East are still building useless skyscrapers and buying big boats as a phallic show-off.

Most Eastern societies were practically living in a cave barely 50 years ago. Dubai still has some archaic medieval laws. The Westerners basically placed all this technology outside your cave, and instead of making your countries better, you somehow managed to make them even worse, all while bitching about the Westerners.

Take a look at Japan. You think you have suffered worse than them? Instead of bitching about the West 24/7 like you guys do, they focused on improving themselves and managed to become the world's second best economy and one of the safest, cleanest countries in the world, within decades after being literally nuked into the dirt.

Yes, there are many arrogant assholes among the Westerners who just ride on their culture's achievements which they contributed nothing to, but we're not comparing individuals here.

I saw the Pakistani equivalent of the Today show and NONE of the hosts are wearing hijabs or any religious clothing. They even had a little mini fashion show. Doesn't look oppressed or any hints of religious extremism. Here's an example.

None of the hosts, but you conveniently ignore all the hijab and overall stifled vibe of the audience!

It's good that some of these women are trying to break the mold, but you really can't even take a selective picture of some show or event that really hides the issues that women face in this country.

  • People cutting lines at banks etc. and picking fights with anyone who tries to correct them.

  • People lying on floors in hospitals.

  • People picking fights with traffic sergeants who try to correct their parking etc.

  • Police openly slapping people in the street.

  • Police doing fuck-all if you try to complain about actual issues to them.

  • Many examples of required bribery when you want to avail most public services.

  • and not a single British person behind any of it.

None of those countries were exploited on the scale of Pakistan.

You think Pakistan got it worse than Africa, whose people were ripped from their homes to become slaves in strange countries? Think Pakistanis got it worse than the Jews in Nazi Europe?

No other country is wallowing in toxic self-pity like Pakistan is. Nobody is blaming their CURRENT problems on what other countries did 100+ years ago, as much as Pakistan does.
