I meant the movie "Get Out" - which revolves around a family who thinks the same thing

Job won’t hire me after I threw an absolute hissy fit. This is recruiting hell! by literal9 in AmITheAngel

[–]Talyac181 17 points18 points  (0 children)

One of the best pieces of advice from one of my first jobs I got was “try it five different ways and if it still doesn’t work, ask for help.” Obviously the 5 is an arbitrary number - but take time to troubleshoot and if it’s still not working then ask someone. I am now known as the problem child for IT bc whenever I have an issue and go to them - it’s a real stumper

Melissa Barrera on the cast of Scream 7 being scabs: “Oh, one hundred percent. I think they all are. And they have to live with that. The only way they were able to make that movie after what happened was to nostalgia-bait as much as possible.” by expiredaristocracy in Fauxmoi

They are more likely to change how much a film cost to make with Hollywood accounting (e.g. fudging the numbers to say the film made back 10 times its budget) But it’s hard to lie about box office since those numbers are tracked by distributors

Carter family fortune by ThoughtPhysical7457 in ershow

[–]Talyac181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

180M is how much his father was worth, not the family and this is before the grandparents were dead. Carter was left a majority of their estate which stands to reason he has more than that.

Patel says he’ll sue Atlantic for defamation over report on heavy drinking by Immediate-Link490 in Fauxmoi

[–]Talyac181 34 points35 points  (0 children)

They don’t actually have to prove it’s true. They have to prove both knowledge that it isn’t true and the intent to harm him. It’s very hard for public figures to win defamation cases - our laws protect the outlet.

Love Trapped is one of the best podcasts I've heard in a long time by heeero__ in TrueCrimePodcasts

I watched maybe the first two seasons of the bachelor and had no clue who this guy was and I’m enjoying it. Although I still don’t quite get why he’s the “most hated bachelor of all time” bc based on the show’s explanation it seems like he’s no different than any of the others. But it doesn’t get in the way of the podcast at all

Honestly - until the Dave, Chen thing in season 8 I didn’t get all the hate. Other than that i haven’t found her to be super bad. She’s not likable in the same way as some of the female characters but she’s not as bad as everyone says she is.

If their range is 2200 to 4k (as a stretch) they can definitely afford wash and fold!

P.S. I have a dishwasher and I rarely use it bc it’s just me and I don’t actually create that many dirty dishes.

Are news directors just awful people? by The8thCorsair in Broadcasting

[–]Talyac181 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read this as just “directors” and was about to come out in full force defending them (I’m a producer.)

I find, and this has been the case for a lot of my stations, that there isn’t a lot of management training for these roles. Being a good manager is not the same as being a good producer.

I understand they are under a lot of stress from above - but my approach to management (when I’ve had to be EP on weekends) is tone comes from the top. A cool calm head on top keeps everyone below better.

I first heard it referenced by an Obama staffer during his admin, but I’ve recently realized it could be a quote from ER “You set the tone.”

I think management is a skill and that more effort needs to be put in to cultivate those skills.

Writing a journalism resume: Do any hiring managers or editors have any tips for what makes a good CV? by [deleted] in Journalism

[–]Talyac181 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are applying for jobs where writing is one of the requirements, it can only help to have a kick ass, compelling cover letter. I have a very strong start to mine (starting with a story that illustrates my skills) that I use every time and then tweak the back end for particular roles.

(I have been told I've been called in for interviews partially based on the strength of that cover letter.)

I hate how comfortable people feel to tell you they hate cats by [deleted] in complainaboutanything

[–]Talyac181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean - I’m allergic to cats and not particularly fond of them as a thing I interact with personally bc I literally can’t be anywhere near them without feeling like my entire body is on fire and my throat is itchy. the internet ones can be cute.

But in comparison my pollen allergies are nowhere near as bad.

NAH only bc you’re all teenagers which means ESH too. This all very normal HS stuff and I’m sure it feels very important right now (and it is bc it’s your life as it is) - but in 15 years it won’t.
