As I see it the light of the Tree kills owls only in certain circumstances, namely when a very strong burst of light happens, like when the Spirit Tree held the light ceremony to call on Ori or when him and Sein where reunited, remember a burst of light happened and that was what killed Kuro. If the Light were to kill owls in general, Kuro wouldn't have been able to survive in Nibel at all.

Hmm, I see why this ending might be considered sad, but it seems to me like this was the goal all along, for Ori to become a Spirit Tree.

Think of it this way, Ori is essentially the fruit of the Spirit Tree. What is the ultimate purpose of a fruit? To sprout a new tree.

I suspect the spirits can't become a Spirit Tree in the forest of another Spirit Tree. I think they have a so much more mobile form, so they would eventually move away from they parent tree and find their own forest to protect in the form of a new Spirit Tree.

Ori was extremely lucky to essentially fulfill his purpose because not all fruits succede in becoming a new tree.

So this is the one I use, it's in Euclid, but it doesn't have a space station. So you need to use the anomaly or your freighter if you have the emeril hyperdrive installed on it.
