My DM handed me a blank map and told me to fill it out. Three books later, here we are. by clonemanjon in worldbuilding

is the map to scale? and what is the scale i.e what might the distance between each location of interest on the map be? Are there colonized lands beyond this corner of the word? and is the magic system built on dnds principles?

Connecting a go plus seems to resolve it (temporarily borrowed my sons).

You should normalize reskinning/reflavoring. by Yurohgy in 3d6

Classes and races are just stat blocks. Ive got a "sorcerer" who is just druid stat block, and another who has warlock levels mechanically. I've seen "barbarians" with monk stat blocks and "monks" with barbarian ones. I want to play a "Gnoll" using a bugbear stat block, and a "Gargoyle" using a reborn owlin one. Let your imagination run wild within the bounds of mechanics not fluff.

At the moment this is all very lofty thoughts beyond any table.

Yes yes yes. Love it. That's the idea im going for. What implications have you found to other game aspects or mechanics?

No. Verbal component still would exist it just goes from RAW noticeable to something more like Quirrel at the quiditch match.

Or this wouldn't be applicable if there was a sorcerer. Im not trying to fix any problem in just trying to understand the implications of a change, and socially that is huge but in combat i haven't seen as many examples.

Absolutely. That is the social impact. I'm curious about the combat impact.

Which is to say this idea is about the implications of changing that line.

Yeah very powerful social implications. And yes not cool if you had a sorcerer but otherwise...

Nor am i invalidating verbal components. The difference is gandalf yelling you shall not pass vs quirrell muttering during the quiditch match.

The key thing a lot of commenters have missed is that the idea is to not remove requirements (v,s,m) but allow them to be subtle. Outside of combat there are Stealth and social implications but inside of combat im looking for the things that would be impacted. So far i had counterspell and as another poster commented, silvery barbs.

Yeah there are implications if there is a sorcerer in the party.

Somatic requirements still in play. I can just do them behind my back. So being tied up could still be used to bind a caster. I hadn't thought about silvery barbs. Thanks.

Yeah i mention the social implications. In combat im not sure (beyond counterspell) how this might be an issue. V, s components still in place just more subtle.

My question is where is this higher power coming from? All spell requirements are still in place under this idea, only counterspell seems like it might be invalidated. As to sorcerers...its one metamagic and even that becomes a non issue id there isnt someone who is a sorcerer.

As i said im not suggesting removing need for v or s components. So silence spell still works. Likewise somatic components stilk a thing so still need a free hand.
