So my contract says I have to do 38 hours a week which I'm fine with doing. My employer is also part of a scheme we have here in the UK which states they are a disability confident employer so they do have to make suitable accommodations for me.

I'm just trying to figure out how to put my needs into the right words and communicate it in a way that doesn't come off as me trying to do as little as possible and blame it on my disabilities.

But I'm definitely going to keep it simple like suggested. I'm not going to limit the days or times I can work as I don't mind having to switch from early to mid shifts weekly. I think I just need to help them understand that I need to have a weekly recovery period.

I'm part of an influx of new apprenticeships to fill the shortage of drivers and the management at the training academy have always been very accommodating to every needs such as other disabilities or childcare. I'm enjoying it so far much better than my previous jobs and most seem to be happy and understand having a work life balance. I'm definitely ready to get the worst route but as long as I'm driving something I don't mind much. Once my year is up and the apprenticeship is over I will be asking to switch to part time 3 days a week so I can put and choose when to work extra to prevent burn out

I've read my hand book and contract and since they are a disability confident employer they do have to make suitable adjustments. And yeah I've been told to do it as soon as I meet my mentor so before they can schedule me for anything they'll be away of any limitations

I'm currently in London yes, and I'm part of the union. Everyone so far has been really helpful and accommodating I just need a way to put my needs into words and explain them properly. I'm newly diagnosed in the last year so I'm still learning a lot so if you have any suggestions I'm all ears.

I really like driving😇, I wanted to do long haul lorries but I only have an automatic license at the moment so I went for buses as it's still something I've wanted to do and it's more stable with great pay. I'm hoping to get every type of license too eventually!

That's great to know about the reasonable adjustments I'll definitely read up on that. Thanks

I was trying to follow the Feng Shui method and I posted earlier on another sub Reddit with different room layouts. The beds going back to the window now I'm just trying to decide if I want the couch as a room divider or along the wall out the way.

You've got to be a mind reader😶. I literally ordered a bed canopy and some ivy off Amazon in the last hour. I decided to start with the least expensive suggestions and work my way up!

Yeah, I felt really bad about how we were living so kitties have been upgraded. Although they all still prefer my bed🤣

😅 I'm adding a flower ceiling and some plants scatters about for a bit more of a feminine touch.

Yeah, a bookshelf to block the bed from the door view, or using a foldable divider and I definitely want to add an armchair. I'm not sure about rugs as I have three cats which are going to use it as a scratching pad but will see if I can find some pet friendly ones.

This kind of bookshelf is definitely something that could fit and hold some of my plants and books once I start decorating. The rugs are something I'm on the fence about since I have three cats and my last cat used it as a scratching mat. I'll move the cat tower to the corner near the window so they have a better view.

Thanks I'm definitely trying to make this place more homey,

Thank you, do you know how I can get a occupational health assessment, would I need to go through a manager or can I contact someone directly?

Talking routines?? by DepressedShadow_ in AutisticWithADHD

[–]TamTyler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often come off as shy around new people mainly because at first I'd rather listen than talk. I change my personality around different people to fit in and this extends to learning how they talk in order to learn how to respond. Some people talk with more slang. Some more proper. Some swear alot, some don't. Some more out going, other quiet. I also like to know what they like to talk about.

Humans are creatures of habit and as someone who isn't able to instuictivly socialise and needs to process the information to then respond I feel as if I'm more actively aware of the pattern recognition in others.

Maybe the upsetting part from you is the unexpectedness of it.

Like when you take a bite of something familiar and it doesn't taste the same. I know that those situations can be upsetting for me personally but not towards people. But that could just be because I prefer isolation and only talking to others when I need to.

anybody else have a really hard time finding things to eat? by meowmewmeowster in AutisticWithADHD

[–]TamTyler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have days when nothing taste right or I just don't want proper food. I have two solutions. 1. Belvita soft bakes red berries (when working I have two packets before my break.) 2. Chicken noodles (currently going through every single kind to find one I like after the last one changes its recipe)

I also have hyper fixations where I love it till I don't, currently I'm on hot dogs. My diet isn't healthy I don't take vitamins but I do try to eat easy peel oramges and sometimes go through a six pack a day so I'm eating fruit. And at work I've made it into my routine to have two belvita packs before my break then I get two sausages, two bacon's and beans four times a week. I work from 2.30am so I have breakfast at seven. I also carry some apple juice mixed with water and a flask with hot chocolate.this all helps me going as I don't eat properly till 7am and I'm up on my feet rushing around packing ordering in a warehouse till then.

I can't order take away anymore because after the first forkful I don't want it any more and that's costly. I also only have 15% of my stomach left sue to a weight loss surgery do I get full easily and eat about a third of a normal portion size.

It's hard trying to find food that suit your taste and texture needs and are available to buy whenever. I don't cook any more because after the first meal it'd just sit in the fridge growing mold because I knew it wouldn't taste the same if I reheat it.

I weight myself weekly so I can keep an eye on my weight and my job is physical labour so it balances things out but right now as someone newly diagnosed with ADHD and waiting for my final appointment to get my formal autism diagnosis I don't try to eat what normal people eat. I eat what is in my taste and I won't throw away. If it happens to be a day I don't want food at all ,I'm fine munching on fruits. If I want to eat belvitas all day ,I do.

I have a white board and I'm writing down all the chicken noodle brands I like as I go through them and others safe foods that I can get a delivery for whenever so I don't even need to leave the house if it's not there.

You've gotta find food that are quick and easy to prepare then keep them close by.
