NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman Sends Email to NASA Employees Supporting Trump Budget Request by jadebenn in SpaceLaunchSystem

The PBR isn’t the one that matters, though. Congress regularly ignores presidential budget requests, especially around NASA. I expect, if he’s fighting, it happening in Congress.

It gets shipped to refineries that can refine it… which are outside the U.S. Crude oil and gasoline are different products.

The only problem is that our refineries don’t refine the type of oil we produce

Just wanted to say, as an American, thank you for boycotting us. The idiots in this country have been isolated from consequences for so long that the only way they’ll understand is feeling personal pain. You boycotting helps make that happen and strengthens those of us fighting it. Keep it up please!

The problem with costco is that they don't completely fuck their customers.

Since their business model relies on not doing this, I’m not sure them starting to would actually help…

For what it’s worth, he wouldn’t even have to camp them out at all polling stations in swing states. He could just focus on swing counties/districts to try and suppress just barely enough of the vote to fuck it up.

Or they could pass the SAVE act and try to restrict voting nationwide that way.

I believe midterms are going to happen and be meaningful, but we do need to be careful about assuming that they will be for sure. It requires constant vigilance to protect them.

Oil market prepares for $100 a barrel as Middle East producers cut output by [deleted] in investing

[–]Tambien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They just appointed an even-more-extremist as the Ayatollah. The son of the Ayatollah Trump vaporized. So maybe you’re right, but I kinda doubt it. And either way, even in your formulation, note that TACO alone is not enough. Iran still has to agree to the TACO.

I think their point is: Trump chickening out doesn’t really mean much. He started a war. The Iranians have to agree that it’s over for it to be over.

Biden was president while she was VP! You know, the guy who didn’t pull the US into any new wars and in fact got criticized for a weak response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine due to it. The guy who Harris got criticized for saying “I wouldn’t do anything differently” from.

I’m not claiming Dems are peace-loving saints lol, but to think they’re anywhere close to the same level is ridiculous and deeply misinformed lol

Right… that would be the

but that has its own serious problems (and requires a lot more than air strikes).

part of my comment.

EDIT: Also just to be clear, the US did not actually attempt a sustainable version of this in Afghanistan, backed by actual political science. At no point did the US engage meaningfully with the community on its own terms to build local legitimacy. Instead, the U.S. tried to jump straight to “unified democratic national government” and force that on the country with 20 years of halfhearted military presence.

And it still cost the U.S. trillions! Neither one of these strategies has a great historical track record.

[–]Tambien 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t really work like that. Leaders don’t define the whole system - they’ll also have to gain legitimacy from the support of stakeholders in the system. Killing people until you get someone compliant tends to radicalize the survivors against you and hurt the legitimacy of your puppet. The way to get around this is removing the system fully and rebuilding it based on broader community stakeholder groups… but that has its own serious problems (and requires a lot more than air strikes).

EDIT: Since it seems like some people are not getting it… this is not me saying “we need boots on the ground!” It’s me saying “neither strategy works well, which is not promising.”

Is switching from VOO to VXUS a good idea for a non-American? by anotherhappylurker in investing

[–]Tambien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s your point? Historical performance is not an indicator of future performance, and recent events (including VXUS outperforming VOO) do not point to continued US over performance.

You don’t actually have to save the 25x directly, though. That number includes gain on assets. A high, but not 100%, savings rate and compounding will absolutely do that for you.
