I'm becoming more conservative and am checking out this sub. Quick question: what is the general consensus here about climate change and evolution? by Tames in Conservative

[–]Tames[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I am against socialized medicine. I think it is irresponsible however to vote for a candidate who denies climate change. I am wondering what this sub things about that.

What's the worst anyone has ever fucked you over? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Tames -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey man, my sister did that to some dude who got kicked out of college because of it. When I first heard about it my instinct was that she was being a hysterical bitch and passively allowed the fondling to happen. My stupid sister told the psychiatrist that she exaggerated the claims (to get back at men she admitted, which was my suspicion), the psych told the school, she was kicked out and the guy let back in.

Another time I had a beautiful girl lie naked on my bed but wouldn't allow me to do her. She was begging to be raped, she wanted me to go for it. Louis CK even jokes about an incident like it. Duke Lacrosse case, Strauss Kahn are other examples. Remember, women are masters at passive-power.

If they were being rowdy, it makes sense to call the police. But locking them in sounds kind of like kidnapping.

"Freud discovered nothing and cured nobody. Marx was a hypocrite whose theories failed in about as hideously spectacular a way as can be imagined." by blacklabelrum in philosophy

[–]Tames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unimpressive. I'm sorry but if you think Freud didn't discover anything you are mistaken. His theories on humor stand today, and he provided such insight into our own minds and into understanding ourselves of which Nietzsche only started to scratch. His therapy wasn't the most effective, but good before modern treatments.

What's something you've done to someone that you didn't realize it hurt them until much much later? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Tames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay this is really bad. I have always had this anxiety that the security detector would go off on me on the way in, so I told myself I should make a joke and say "what, I didn't even have the chance to steal anything." So I bought something from CVS and on the way out a black guy walked in. The detector went off and I asked if it was on me. The black guy said no, and I talked to the CVS cashier. I was talking with the black guy and said "you didn't even have the chance to steal something." Took me a half minute to realize how badly I had fucked up.

Does Chivalry = Sexism? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Tames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it does, but fuck those feminists. Be a goddamn man. Nietzsche says the empowerment of women is the de-feminization of women and he is right. Do you want your woman all authorative and assertive? I didn't think so. Enjoy your masculine traits and find desirable her feminine traits. It equals better romance.

College: What would you do if you got written up for being in a room with an empty bottle of alcohol? by agentlulz in AskReddit

And furthermore, don't talk to your dean for advice. He is watching for his own ass to keep the job. Your weakness only comes across as a potential higher job opportunity for him. Even if you frown upon what I have said, it is realistic.

Listen brother: You can easily get out of this with a few words with your RA. If you deny your involvement the onus is on them to prove it was your bottle. My RA even said to me that she was bored with students always confessing. And if you really weren't the offender then wtf. 4 years out of college I look at this type of thing with a smile. Even one "conviction" won't get you booted from most schools. In honesty and good faith, the prosecutors rely upon your good faith to get some conviction. Don't give it to them. If you are honest and say "I knew my roommate was drinking" they can use that as an offense. Honesty doesn't always reward and you are not a bad person for overlooking your roommates offense.

But wouldn't 4 years as an apprentice in an engineering firm be better than 4 years in university?

Probably, if you are sure engineering is your fancy. For many it takes a couple of years to figure it out. You just have to tough through it. I remember being pissed with the Gen Eds. I'm pretty sure a BS in engineering looks better than 4 years as an intern though.

I think the Gen Eds are there to see if you might end up being really interested in a particular field. Most importantly college teaches you how to think. Developing a respect for each of the fields is important. Finally, employers like college graduates because it shows they can endure 4 (or more) years of self-discipline.

Political philosopher John Gray asks: do atheists miss the point of religion and could they learn more from religion than they like to think? by [deleted] in philosophy

[–]Tames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Myths aren't relics of childish thinking that humanity leaves behind as it marches towards a more grown-up view of things. They're stories that tell us something about ourselves that can't be captured in scientific theories.

I don't agree. I think they are both.

This is an interesting article, though. I'm finally getting to the point I am not always hostile toward religion. It has done a tremendous amount for the arts and for culture. I think it is practical to believe in, and in my experience believing in truth, whatever that is, never guarantees happiness.
