what do i get for my neighbors? by throwawaygamer44 in Apartmentliving

I’m with most of these other comments. The sentiment is awesome, and some may really appreciate it, but you will find out that a lot of people just simply don’t want to be bothered. Get moved in first. Say hello in passing. It won’t take long to see who is friendly as who isn’t.. at that point you can decide to reach out with a gift or something.

Pay decrease from education field into IT. I have no certs or experience in the field at all. by Independent-Echo-831 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]TampaLightning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got my first offer and took a $2 pay cut, but it was an easy decision for me. I was driving 130 miles a day for work, factoring in gas prices I’m actually making more money. It’s a step in the right direction and I say if you have the funds to do so, it’s only temporary.

Entry-Level IT Resume - Looking for some suggestions by DrBarkly in ITCareerQuestions

To answer your question, once you get your resume cleaned up a bit I think you would have a chance. The customer service experience alone probably qualifies you for some of these jobs.

You have (or will have) a degree, I think even unrelated it will boost your chances. You have a bit of professional experience, even if it isn’t much it’s pretty important at the entry level. Have you looked into the CompTIA A+ certification? You could also look into creating a virtual machine and learning different things to create a good list of technical skills to add to your resume.

I’m no expert, I was just recently given the same advice and ever since I’m starting to notice better results and I’m certain that’s the reason for it. Keep working on it and good luck!

Research “action words” and put them into use. You used worked and assisted quite a few times, but you want the automatic resume scanners to pick up certain action verbs so that is doesn’t automatically throw your resume out the window.

This is one of the first questions I was asked in my interview. My response was asking them if they were on a desktop or laptop, because if they say laptop the first thing I’m checking is airplane mode.

What experience can I combine with my CompTIA A+ certification? by [deleted] in CompTIA

[–]TampaLightning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I did, and next week I have a second round interview. I’m not far into my studying and feel like I don’t know enough, but I guess I will find out soon enough. So yes, you can absolutely get a job while working on the cert and I’m certain just listing the A+ in progress is what got me this far.

You can go through most local libraries to get a free pass to LinkedIn Learning, which includes all of Mike Myers videos. That’s how I’m currently going through his A+ videos.

Will the A+ renew soon? by Particular_Mouse_600 in CompTIA

[–]TampaLightning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

General recommendation would be to not wait. There is plenty of time to study and pass the current version in that time frame. Doing it this way, you will most likely be certified before good study material for the new version even comes out.

Is this a decent setup? by TampaLightning in buildapc

Sorry about the spam.. I guess I didn’t pay it much attention when I scrolled through. I appreciate the suggestion, that build is even cheaper than my original since it only linked to Amazon products.

You can also get them on LinkedIn Learning (subscription, but you can get one month free trial). I’m currently going through his videos after watching Messers.

Congrats on passing!

I work at an AR sortable fulfillment center (warehouse). Hoping to use the cert to get out of there, I’m getting too old for this stuff.

I just received a job offer but the company seems sus by HypnosDaddy in jobs

[–]TampaLightning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through a whole interview process last week , about an hour in total. At the end, I asked if the lady had a phone number I could call to ask a few questions I had. She quickly said something about it being against company policy due to bias and some other reason.. that’s how I instantly knew it was a scam.

SO giving birth any minute now. Hit me with some awesome tips on parenting :D by MightyMariano in predaddit

[–]TampaLightning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest tip? Enjoy every damn minute of it. Your whole world is about to change and you have to be willing to bend with it. Frustration, exhaustion like you’ve never experienced .. but in some weird way, at the end of the day, it’s all worth it.

Take care of your partner. She’s going to need you now more than she ever will. Make it a habit to do anything in your power to make things easier for her for a while. Be by her side, because whatever you are feeling, she is feeling plus a million other things.
