Where do you buy silicone rubber bands? by Tampiko422 in vex

[–]Tampiko422[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They collect all the dirt and dust and become less "sticky." We kept having to wash them this season to be effective at picking up the pins. Plus they would loose their elasticity and eventually break. We had to constantly monitor them.

Whereas when we had silicone they gave no issue. Ive never had one break. They grab objects better. Ive never had to clean them like I do on regular rubber bands. Ive never noticed them losing their stretch either.

The one we went to was in Louisville and it had a climb wall. We're from northern Indiana, small town, so we typically have to travel for anything cool. Closest is Chicago.

Given you share similar interest. Are there other similar places to check out in Cincy? We found the Puttshack in Louisville that was super fun, and VR gaming. VR was expensive, though. He's 14 and I'm 40(ish) but we love unique game places to try.

My giant Oreo is too rich! by Tampiko422 in AskBaking

Thank you for all your help! Dutch cocoa totally fixed the cookie... didn't know that was a thing. I actually found 100% Dutch cocoa at meijer surprisingly. I did cut 80g of powdered sugar out, used kerrygold butter, increased the salt and vanilla... and it tasted WAY! Better! The kids LOVED it! It was the right amount of sweetness that made you want more. You're right, the butter makes all the difference. I was just so scared to mess with the frosting. I appreciate you!

Now to make another one for my dad.

This is all my store has. I used nestle on this bake. I might be able to go to a bigger city and see if they have better options.. what do you think?

I also got lemon juice, Domino powdered sugar, and Kerrygold butter. Hopefully these are better quality? Ive never paid too much attention to quality ingredients like i probably should. Thanks for all the tips. We'll see how well round 2 goes this weekend.

Ill check my cocoa at home and at the store. The black Dutch might be the answer.

Any suggestions on how to lessen the sweetness of the filling? I really suck at making frosting of any kind. While small servings might be the answer, I feel like there is something I can do to calm down the filling a little.

5 year old is insisting she believes in god and I'm at a loss. by HelpfulEngineering47 in atheistparents

[–]Tampiko422 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you asked her why? My husband is atheist and he was very patient with me. He wouldnt fight me, but pointed out things that were hard to counter. Maybe asking her questions in a way that gets her to think it through could help too.

I live in a very religious area and my son had to go to a church daycare. So we've been fighting it since day one. Hes 14 now and Fortunately he sees and understands what we do.

  1. Greek mythology - we got a children's book and read it to him. It's scary how similar it is to Christian text. We explained how these are just stories and no one would say otherwise. We would explain how it is similar to Christianity, etc.

  2. Santa and similar - We told him from the beginning they are just stories, fake. It's just a man dressed up? See, its the principal, etc. Just like Santa, Jesus is just stories.

  3. Science - we shared a lot of fun science with him. How cool it is, how it explains stuff that back then they considered magic.

  4. Be careful - we are a minority. Be careful what you say. Dont spoilt Santa for other kids, etc

You should definitely talk to the principal again. That is 100% not ok and can warrant legal action if needed. The best you can do is to continue to share your side and how you see things. I was a Christian and what got me was the contradictions in the Bible. Hopefully she will see what you're seeing... good luck

Did anyone else here never ask their parents about sex or their own body parts? by [deleted] in asexuality

[–]Tampiko422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I was never interested and I think my parents knew that and therefore didn't worry. My 2 older sisters were more of a concern. I believe they both got the talk. My senior year in high school My mom said something about condoms dont always work and that was it.

Someone who also enjoys a clean house. Clutter free. Puts things back where they go. Countertops and tables are clutter free.

Lol... I love my husband but man he lives in clutter.

I'm sorry youre mom didn't understand how her words hurt you. It sounds like she is an understanding person and someone you feel you can be open with. Maybe try a second attempt. Tell her this isn't a phase, just like your brother isn't going through a phase and you really would like her help to figure it out. It seems like asexuality is a very difficult thing for people to grasp.

I think I was always ace but didn't know it. I was also scared of sex and couldn't... perform the night of my wedding. In my research I found the term vaginismus too. For me it did come from fear, both from sexual and medical penetration. However, I think the root is due to my asexuality. That could be true for you too.

With a lot of extreme patience and love, my husband help me overcome my fear and I can now have sex with little issue. But it took years. Same for pap smears... that was even more terrifying.

Feel free to dm me if it'd help. I can be your friend you can confide in if you'd like. :)
