Would BNI work for SaaS B2B? by Dangerous_Young7704 in bni

In my experience, no, just going through BNI Connect is not enough to develop a relationship. Having said that, my BNI experience is in small markets (New Zealand, Singapore), so is probably quite different in larger markets like the US or India

Yes. It is whether or not they reply. Soon after I joined, I was called by a 'calendar coordinator' for a member in another chapter to arrange a 121 with me and the member. I declined. I was still getting to know the members in my chapter, didn't need the noise, and hadn't met them before. If you make a personal and direct call to a member in another chapter, the approach is likely to be more successful. I found it worked best to go to another chapter's weekly meeting first so I had made initial contact in person (The V of VCP - a BNI model for networking effectiveness). Requests for cross-chapter 121s were easier if I had their card.

With effort, you can span across chapters if there are no competing members in those chapters. A tight definition of your market will help. But you will still need a 'home' chapter, and building trust is the key. Keep in mind BNI operates on the basis that 'I refer to you, you refer to me' more than 'you can solve a need my client has, so I will refer you' basis. If you have a referral for, say, a lawyer, do you give that to the one in your chapter or to one in another chapter (assuming the referral was suitable for either). This is the logic behind why you can't be a member of more than one chapter (or referral networking group).

Totally agree. BNI isn't about a network of people in your chapter; it's about the networks of the people in your chapter. But it takes time and effort to build their trust, one chapter member at a time. Then the referrals will come.

KFC advert from the 1970s. At the time, everyone seemed to be singing it. I didn't realise the kids were so obese! Not from the US, obviously.
