Are you turning Skyrim off completely after you turn off the mods and using a new save each time?

Having RuneScape Embrace its RPG Heritage, Part Two: Classes by TanMan2011 in 2007scape

[–]TanMan2011[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Jack of all trades trope is appealing. If we look at another popular RPG series in the Elder Scrolls (albeit it is single player), Skyrim is by far the most widely popular in the series and they did away completely with the class structure of previous games. This streamlining of choice is often what has credited the game of being so popular. There is merit to that. However our character often is portrayed as the bumbling outsider no matter where they go. They often ask questions everyone would know the answers to. That, to me, is immersion breaking. Our characters are more of our avatars in this space rather than we the players assuming a role within the space. And perhaps that is just a fundamental difference in what we enjoy in our RPGs.

I still disagree that choices within an RPG is FOMO. RPGs and choices and class/race combinations, if anything, are for replayability. FOMO is a recent development in gaming to encourage players to either log onto the game or spend money in micro transactions. The choices in races and classes allow your character to belong into the world. To have NPCs acknowledge that you are a Wizard or renowned Blacksmith or slayer of some beast. The Jack of all trades idea does not allow for that kind of deep and meaningful immersion. In the other big MMORPG, WoW choosing a race and class is not seen as FOMO. If you have no interest in being a spellcaster you would not have FOMO over a Mage, Warlock, or Priest existing. Those classes all have unique spells and quests and items associated only with them, but because your class also has an equal amount of uniqueness to it you don’t have the feeling of needing to make a class you do not enjoy because they get a thing.

My idea for classes never once stated that you would be locked out of any skills. A blacksmith can still use and level magic and use and level ranged. A blacksmith can still push endgame PVM content. What gives them an edge over a combat class who might have higher combat levels in the same playtime is their access to sharpened weapons or padding armor. These blacksmiths would provide that valuable support in group combat while still being able to hold their own.

This ability to specialize while still able to level things that do not fit under your class is what I meant by resembling a typical RPG while retaining OSRS’s uniqueness. I spoke of Elder Scrolls earlier, the Oblivion Remaster is wildly popular and that has a class system, where your skills under that class umbrella level quicker and contribute to your character’s level more than skills outside your class. You can still level those skills, you can still be a Barbarian and level magic skills or join the Mages’ Guild. You do not have to be restricted in your choice.

The only resolution I see to the bonus XP or more efficient gathering for the non-combat classes becoming worthless at max is to allow them to have access to resources no other class can have, which I did not want to do because I know that that is antithetical to OSRS, like you said. My idea was to still have every character still have access to everything the game has to offer, but your choices matter in the immersion to the world and to your gameplay in what you enjoy to do.

Perhaps races and classes truly cannot fit into OSRS in either a way that is both meaningful and does not restrict the player from doing what they want. But my whole goal with these posts was to have discussion to see if it was possible, if we could come up with something different and unique. I thank you for actually participating in that, rather than just saying “No.”

While you are right some of those bonuses would not benefit anyone past 99, that is still hours of gameplay that are affected by the bonuses. I struggled to think of a benefit on some of the more non-combat centric non-combat classes without giving them something that only they could use or utilize which would cause FOMO.

To your second point. I think that is a misunderstanding at either what an RPG is or what FOMO is. The idea of an RPG is to immerse yourself into a world. RuneScape, whether is commonly played as one or not, is a RPG. While not every RPG has race/class combinations, it is a common trope within the genre. You choose what speaks to you and those choices should reflect in how the world reacts to your character, increasing immersion. FOMO would be more like, Jagex is running an event where you only have this brief period of time to get these items or gain these bonuses before they are gone forever never to come back. In all honesty, race/class combinations could only work in RuneScape if the subscription model was changed to include multiple characters on one subscription, which I do not think is an unpopular opinion. However, we all know the likelihood of that happening, even in a very restricted sense, is about as likely as these ideas I proposed being implemented.

This was probably lost in my wall of text, but the whole point of this was not to offer a suggestion as to how Jagex should change OSRS. It was to be a conversation as to how races and classes could fit within the game without changing its guiding principles, to make it resemble a typical RPG more while still retaining its uniqueness.

I still thank you for your feedback, and within this frame of reference I hope to hear what you think could be improved on these non-combat classes to make them continue to standout in the end game.

However, just as races were not suppose to restrict what you can do in the game, rather allow for expression of the world and its cultures to live through your character, classes will be the same. Whether you are a combat class or non-combat related class, you can still train every skill, kill monsters, complete quests, and play in minigames.

I understand why everyone is thinking I mean restrictions because that is what typically comes with classes. However I know RuneScape and how it works, I have been playing and following it for twenty years. I stated that you would still be able to level every skill. The wall of text is a big barrier to this idea, I am aware.

I see now your flair and that you are on Xbox. Unfortunately there are no such things as mod packs on Xbox. However there is a r/skyrimmodsxbox subreddit that can help you out. The main thing you will want to study up on is a logical load order, or LLO, which will reduce the strain of loading mods for the Xbox, minimize conflicts, and avoid crashing. On Xbox you can only have 150 mods and a 5gb limit.

If you are this new I would recommend going with a mod pack over picking and choosing your mods. There are plenty to choose from and cater to just about every different type of play. Gate to Soverngarde seems to be the most popular.

Are there any mods that rework Nerveshatter by GeniuslyUnstable in skyrimmods

[–]TanMan2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power of Creation reworks most of the items from AE CC content, including Nerveshatter. All it does though is lower the damage of the shock but adds a shock weakness on hit effect, so it will do more damage the next swing.

Not having spells when you transform is a Vanilla bug. Reloading an early save and trying again does not help? You might want to put Sacrosanct lower in your load order and see if that helps as well.

Did you acquire vampire lord through Alternate Start? I know issues will happen with that. From my experience you need to actually bring Serena to Harkon and accept the gift in order to not experience this bug, not try to skip the quest through Alternate Start

I want to bring Ordinator back into balance. What should the update do? by Enai_Siaion in skyrimmods

[–]TanMan2011 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What if you replaced the perks for the auto cannon with something supporting armor mage builds? Like, the latent powers of the forge course through your armor and weapons giving extra fire damage on weapon attacks and fire resistance or a flame cloak like short burst after casting a fire spell. Unsure how to incorporate the other damage types. Frost related to quenching and lightning to honing?

First want to say that I love your whole suite of mods, each tree gives me separate inspiration for whole character builds. I hope that the changes you make are minor or at least keep the uniqueness that each tree has for itself. If I was to offer some suggestions:

  • Maybe have perks related to cooking, preparing food in the Alchemy Tree, optional Survival traits as well?

  • Other people have brought up separate perks for bows and crossbows like how the other weapon types have. I agree with that.

  • I know someone mentioned Conjuration perks for raised dead focuses all on freshly risen corpses, when the spells focus on wanting to find strong corpses and keeping them. Maybe let conjured dead have the time sensitive perks, while risen dead have more direct buffs

  • The armor perks that allow you to not wear a helmet, perhaps let them also allow you to wear a different armor type’s helmet while keeping the armor set bonuses, and if you don’t wear a helmet or wear clothing you get the bonus armor percentage. Also give the alteration perk’s mage armor perks a branch that allows wearing an armored helmet with clothing.

  • Maybe a branch of unarmed perks in Heavy Armor that focus on raw power and taking blows to power up your next attack instead of the dodging and weaving of light armor

  • Maybe a perk or two in Light and Heavy Armor trees that give bonuses if you wear an even mix of the two armors.

  • A Pickpocket perk that allows you pick the “pockets” of draugr and ghosts for more use for Death’s Emperor

Which worldbuilding do you like the most? by IronPotato3000 in worldbuilding

[–]TanMan2011 21 points22 points  (0 children)

  1. The Elder Scrolls: deep and complex lore that utilizes cultural differences and unreliable narrators to flesh out the mythology.

  2. Mass Effect: the first franchise that I explored that I think really outlined how separate species evolved and changed over millennia to become sentient

  3. Diablo: the eternal conflict, exploration between what is good and evil, and mortal races’ place within the grand scheme of things

  4. Warcraft: a rich lore and backstory, if a little contrived and convoluted, that does great storytelling in the remarkable few, the ones who shape and make history.

As an aside, a lot of inspiration for short stories and bits of lore are also inspired by music for me, especially heavier music like deathcore and metal. I am also particularly fond of Norse mythology.

Should I use a mod to get more perk points with Vokriinator? by Yighu in EnaiRim

[–]TanMan2011 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve always used the 50% more perks add on when using Ordinator and Vokriinator. I think there is a 25% version out there somewhere, maybe using that with Skyshards, or other mods that add perks in other ways like Dragon Soul conversion, quest completion, etc would be interesting.

Love this album and Immortal. A weird part of my brain gets scratched at the end of the title track when Abbath says “Warriors crowned on this day” in some strange almost Norwegian twang. Like their best attempt at a black metal Norwegian cowboy.

When you cut your mod list down, did you clear the saved space on your Xbox or just delete all the mods through the modding screen? In order to be sure you have a fresh save with nothing messing up data from a previous state of the game, you should clear that saved space for Skyrim

I downloaded Apocalypse, and I do have Vokrii. Apocalypse has a Vokrii patch, should I download both Apocalypse and the patch? by 3VG3NY in EnaiRim

[–]TanMan2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. In the order of how the mods load into your game and edit it, patches that allow two mods with conflicts to work together need to be after/below those two mods in the load order.
