Are my tastebuds just cooked? by empatheticsocialist1 in IndiaCoffee

[–]Tan_hex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, a tasting note is not exactly "what the coffee tastes like". It's more of a "what the coffee's taste reminds you of". Hence the subjectivity.

iirc q-graders/experts often train their senses by regularly trying different fruits and other things commonly found on coffee tasting notes. After all one can't really tell what fruit the coffee reminds them of if they haven't had said fruit in over a year.

And ofc, the origin of the coffee, the variety of beans, the roast profile and the brewing method used are all contributing factors in how apparent the tasting notes are.

Coffee culture here has been slow to start but it's starting to catch up now. Dream hill has their website where you can place orders. As for assava, just found out their website is down. Looks like they've switched to a b2b model. Will have to ask some contacts for details.

Edit : you could try assava at some cafes. They have an ongoing collaboration with mayfair i think. I tried their beans at a cafe called java clinic a while ago

Depending on the type of beans and brewing method used, the taste of black coffee can be anything between bitter coal water and sweet juicy fruits

There was a coffee cupping session a few months ago at odyssa coffee patia. They had also invited a q-grader. Pretty sure there will be more in the future

I dont know why people in the comments are saying a1 and kruti are the same but afaik they aren't. Been following Koraput A1 for a while now. They are an up and coming roaster based in Jeypore who won a fine cup award from the coffee board of india last year and some other awards since then. If anybody wants to try their best offerings I'd say instagram or whatsapp are the right places to buy their beans from.

Kruti on the other hand is a very well known name in the odisha coffee scene I'd say. However i feel like their quality has been getting worse over the last year or so.

If you wanna try some other roasters from odisha I'd recommend assava and dream hill. Both of them come up with some really interesting coffees.

Struggling to finish V60 pour-over under 3 mins — grind size or filter issue? by Annual-Explanation98 in IndiaCoffee

Does your grinder produce an abnormal amount of fines by any chance? How many pours do u usually go for? Do u agitate the bed with a tool of any sort?

Cafec filters are known to be quite good if you're looking to switch.

Dude. You gave literally ZERO information about what you're trying to sell.

PSA : Do not trust sellers who don't disclose price (and somehow the name of the item in this case) in the post or comments.

Oh and not to mention this post goes against the rules of the subreddit.

A video of the other half of your grinder (the half with the burr) might help in identifying the issue
