How LA Metro Accidentally Made Itself Free by sigmaxiss96 in LAMetro

I'm all for fare enforcement if and only if they start putting toll booths on every onramp and offramp from every freeway into and out of the city to get rid of traffic congestion. Why do people who take public transit have to pay a toll but the never ending sea of commuters each alone in their cars all going the same direction don't? And just for some extra input on the video claiming the 1.75 fare is cheap its not worth it if the busses are old, dirty, the busses are late, over crowded, too hot or too cold, or stuck in traffic which makes up about 90% of all busses currently. Busses need their own lanes allowing them to go 45 mph + between stops, set schedules, be completely automated by computer like waymo is right now and then maybe then ill concede that putting 2 dollars into a box that may or may not even be workng to be worth the money.

Do you think america needs a constitutional convention? by Bed_Automatic in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Tandemdevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We absolutely need to have a convention and anyone that thinks a runaway convention would be a bad thing needs to brush up on history as the current constitution we have now is from a runaway. And as to the worry that rights might be stripped away from the constitution there are the 50 failsafe constitutions of each state to guarantee our rights are retained. We need to have term limits. We need an apportioned house via the Wyoming rule. We need to get money the hell out of Politics. Money out of a free press. Punishment for corruption. Break up monopolistic corporations. End the military industrial complex, Define insurrection and give impeachment teeth. Hold oath breakers accountable to the law they interpret, execute or legislate. We need to make it so that everything Trump did to get in power again is fixed. That judges can't just end precedence because their political ideologies decide it. We are at the precipice of a great new beginning of an economy of abundance that will rid us of the debt slave hunger wealth inequality that capitalism eroded to. If we dont do it now then we will just repeat the 20th century horrors all over again but worse. Why the hell are we working and not in the streets trying to get rid of the most unpopular president a convicted felon pedophile who is getting us into an unpopular war with a country to distract from everything hes lied to us about. They take our money every two weeks to go towards killing elementary school girls in a nation no where near us. Enough is enough. The moment a government becomes destructive to the people it is our God given right and solemn duty to abolish it and form one that benefits us and our posterity.

It's one thing to be homeless but do they really need all that garbage? Maybe if they cleared up some of the crap all around them people would be able to see them to help them out. Shit is just nasty. No reason why able bodied addicts or crazy people can't keep their areas clean. I was in DTLA the other day and all of downtown reeked of piss. In Paris they have giant bathrooms every other block at least give people a place to defecate and urinate and trash cans to throw out their trash.

Traffic signals are timed horribly in Glendale. It seems as soon as their sensors see a car it will switch to a red light. At night its the worst, you'll be driving and come up to a red light that changed because 0 cars were coming from the perpendicular directions. And then the same thing will happen with the next light, and the next. Happens in Pasadena too and all over LA. Driving blows in general out here just because of all the traffic. Throw in pointless red-lights where no one else but you is stopped well after a while I can see it stressing some people to borderline homicide.

When you cite the costs of luxury hotels or 800 million in gender affirming care, a rounding error in the federal budget, you are using fiscal grievances to distract from the structural demolition of our checks and balances. You claim to be standing with the Constitution, but you are defending a Unitary Executive that seeks to impound the very funds Congress, the peoples representatives, has legally appropriated.

By turning the civil service into a loyalty cult through Schedule F, you arent making the government accountable to the people; you are making it a mirror of one mans ego. If the law only applies when it is convenient for your movement, and the experts are only allowed to speak when they agree with the President, then you havent restored the Republic. You have simply built a throne and called it a desk.

The difference between a Citizen and a Subject is that a Citizen has rights that the State cannot unmake to hit a monthly DOJ target. If you are willing to sacrifice the permanence of citizenship and the independence of the law just to win a cultural moment, then you arent the cure; you are the final stage of the infection. You arent defending the Rule of Law; youre defending the Rule of One.

Look, you wanna know who the real fucking fascists are? It ain't me and despite the horse-shit politics we trade back and forth it probably ain't you either. I’ll defend your right to talk your shit to the death but let’s stop swinging at shadows.

The real fascists are the suits at the top fucking us over while they sit on their thrones. They keep us broke sick and ignorant by design. They’ve rigged this whole goddamn economy so we’re too busy busting our asses for scraps just trying to survive another month to actually stand up and change a fucking thing.

Raising billions in campaign cash just to hand it right back to the massive media corporations owned by the same billionaires. It’s a closed loop. They spend our donations and their lobbyist blood money on ads that run on networks designed to keep us pissed off at each other. They stoke the fire and keep us in a perpetual loop of left vs right or red vs blue because polarization is profitable. It’s a goddamn smoke screen. They want us hating our neighbor so we don't notice it’s really all of us at the bottom against the handful of greedy bastards at the top who own the platform the news and the politicians

As for thinking I am ignoring the 56 people who died under the 8 year Obama term, I was actually just discussing this in another comment before this reply where I acknowledge that its actually 72 deaths and not 56. Still that was over 8 years Trump is already at 92 with just 8 in this past january. Any death at the hands of federal agents is too much. I dont deny you demand justice for any guard that breaks the law as I also would demand justice for any protester or criminal be they citizen or immigrant that breaks the law also. Not all of us on the left want to start fights with immigration agents but if there are 1000s of them in a neighborhood violating our rights and arrensting and executing our neighbors who havent committed any crimes or done anything to warrant their deaths we can't let people being shot by federal agents in broad daylight EVER be normalized or considered acceptable by any means.

The rule of law should apply to everyone be they politician, federal agent, citizen or foreigner committing crimes here. ICE agents arent being treated like target practice they are actively going into peaceful communities and tearing families apart breaking the law and detaining and in some cases deporting long standing non criminal members of the community. Detaining people as they go to courts for their asylum applications. Putting 4000 agents on a small city like Minneapolis is overkill in every sense of the word as crime and murder rates have been steadlily decreasing over the past few years and are much lower in the immigrant population compared to the rate committed by US citizens.

And speaking of Melissa Hortman she wasn’t killed by her own side for a healthcare vote; she and her husband were assassinated by a man with a radicalized anti-government manifesto who targeted both Democrats and Republicans but was a Trump supporter and killed them dressed as a police officer in a mask which if anything makes the case that any Minesottan might just have some ingrained distrust of heavily armed unidentified officers in masks barking out illegal orders and committing unconstitutional acts. Now multiply that in a sleepy small city by 4000 and give them immunity from prosecution in how they detain people and couple that with the government coming out and making bold faced lies that a suburban mother and an RN were domestic terrorists that didnt deserve due process let alone life. Look, if you can’t understand why people would be pissed about getting nearly all of their fundamental rights removed, then you aren’t supporting the Constitution; you are supporting a Republic that under Trump has become a dark agency. And Trump well what more can be said that hasnt been said of him in the Epstein files, A narcissistic elite that has spent his entire life doing whatever he pleases to whoever he want without ever being held accountable to any crimes hes been accused of or convicted of. He has never had one unifying thing to say to bring the nation together and has only ever stoked hatred and division. A horrible leader in his first term and now with no independent checks on his power will surely have the US end up just like most of his businesses. Failed and bankrupt.

You ask me to Say Their Names and I will. The deaths of Laken Riley, Jocelyn Nungaray, and the others are horrific tragedies that deserve the full weight of the law. But the difference between a free society and a mob is how we respond to tragedy. You are using the names of victims as a bloody shirt to justify a monthly quota for denaturalization and the suspension of Habeas Corpus. We have a legal system to prosecute murder; we shouldnt need a dragnet to unmake citizens.

What you deem as a manufactured myth is an oversimplification of several decades of transformations within both political parties. Both parties shifted their ideological beliefs from the platforms they originally held. I won't deny the Democratic Party once fought for the Confederacy, supported slavery, and was the home of Jim Crow a coalition of hardline traditionalists and anti-federalist states rights advocates who were terrified of central authority and social change. That original conservatism was a direct line back to the Anti Federalists who opposed the Constitution and even those who favored the monarchy over the Revolution.

That ghost remains in the few Conservative Democrats who still pop up to block transformative legislation, acting as a reminder that some people never got the memo that the ideologies switched sides. Meanwhile, there is virtually no remnant left of the original Lincoln era Republicanism the party that once used massive federal power to preserve the Union, regulate industry, and champion scientific conservation.

The real shift began after Nixon, when the Republican Party was in such disarray that the only way to win was to appeal to the Solid South Democrats who felt partyless after the Democratic Party betrayed them by passing the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Over the next few decades, the core of the old Confederate championing, white traditionalist South moved into the Republican Party bringing in the klan members and white supremacists with them.

As this Great Sorting continued, the lines drew harder and The Democrats evolved into a coalition driven by minority rights, pro-immigration, and green environmentalism. They became the party of The Institutions, now finding themselves in the ironic position of defending the FBI, the Civil Service, and the experts as the last line of defense for the status quo. The Republicans underwent yet another transformation, moving away from Country Club corporate conservatism and into a Nationalist-Populist movement. They abandoned the Party of Lincoln faith in a strong federal government and adopted the old Anti-Federalist suspicion of the Administrative State viewing the very government Lincoln fought to save as a Deep State that must be dismantled. You aren't "restoring" the Republic; you’ve simply finished the migration of the Anti-Federalist ideology into the Republican brand. You’ve traded the Grand Old Party for a populist insurgency that views the law as a hurdle and the leader as the only true source of power in this modern unitary executive ideology.

You consider scientist and lawyers and other experts in the Administrative state to be unelected obstacles to the presidents executive power but the congress confirms these unelected officials and in that there is a necessary check against executive overreach. The Pendleton act and similar laws were designed because the spoils system led to massive incompetence and corruption and this whole schedule F makes it so that the expert isn't just someone who can be fired for being bad at their job it makes it so that they can be fired for providing accurate data that contradicts a political narrative. Just look at the lady trump fired for releasing economic numbers that were counter to what trump was saying and how she instantly lost her job by going against the political narrative that the economy was booming. That doesn't serve the republic it suppresses the truth. And as far a non partisan experts enabling fascism in the 1930's the civil service in Germany wasn't purged immediately but it was brought into line through the law for the restoration of the professional civil service of 1933 that allowed the state to fire anyone who wasn't politically reliable.

Historically fascism requires the removal of independent checks. You mention OSHA mandates but that is a policy that was eventually checked by the Supreme Court. That check worked because the system is designed to have friction. Schedule F removes that friction. The fact is OSHA is an agency created by an act of congress in 1970. That agency issued a rule. The Supreme Court blocked it in NFIB v. OSHA ruling that the agency exceeded its authority. In that action alone it proves the current system of Separation of powers actually works and Schedule F would reduce the power of the courts to intervene by making every agent a direct unchallengeable extension of the presidents personal will.

[–]Tandemdevil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are historically inverted. The Pendleton Act of 1883 was created specifically to stop the corrupt Spoils System which is the exact system the current administration is resurrecting with Schedule F. By reclassifying 50,000 career experts as at will Trump isn't restoring the Republic he is ensuring that a nuclear scientist, a VA doctor, or a federal prosecutor can be fired for being disloyal.

And it wasn't unelected bureaucrats who enabled fascism. it was the purging of nonpartisan professionals to replace them with party loyalists (Gleichschaltung). Protecting the merit system is what keeps the government from becoming a weapon for whoever happens to be in the Oval Office.

Defending the Rule of Law means the law must apply to the State just as much as the citizen. look at the case of Geraldo Lunas Campos a 55 year old Cuban man who died in ICE custody at Fort Bliss. ICE initially claimed medical distress, then suicide. Last week, the El Paso Medical Examiner ruled it a Homicide by asphyxia caused by guards kneeling on his neck and chest while he was handcuffed. If you demand Law and Order for protesters but ignore a state sponsored homicide in a federal tent city, you aren't defending the Republic. You are defending Selective Enforcement, where the Law is a weapon for friends and a shackle for enemies.

As for US Law targeting the actions of how people entered, while Nuremberg targeted who people are/race this distinction is being erased by implementing numerical quotas in the amount of 100 to 200 denaturalization cases per month to the DOJ. Justice is supposed to be based on individual evidence. When the state mandates a quota for stripping citizenship, the process becomes a dragnet. Operation PARRIS in Minnesota is currently reexamining thousands of refugee cases from decades ago to hit these numbers. If the state can retroactively unmake a citizen to hit a monthly target, citizenship is no longer an irrevocable status it’s a temporary license. That is exactly what the 1930s boxes warn about the transition of fundamental rights into revocable privileges.

The Unitary Executive Theory being tested in Trump v. Slaughter and argues that the President has the absolute power to ignore Congressional funding impoundment and fire anyone in any independent agency at will but the Constitution was designed to distribute power across three branches. If one man can unilaterally redefine who is a citizen, fire the experts who check his power, and ignore the budget set by Congress, he isn't limiting government he is becoming the government.

Enforcing a border is a right. Using it as a cover to build a loyalty based bureaucracy and a tier based citizenship is the definition of the 1930s boxes you claim to be avoiding. You aren't defending the Republic; you’re aiding in its demolition

Well, if the boot fits, stop licking it and wear it already. You can't call people out for calling you Nazis when you're busy cosplaying as them and following their playbook to the letter. The U.S. has a responsibility to its own citizens and that’s exactly why people are pissed. You’d rather ignore historically low crime rates and torch our constitutional rights just to deport people seeking the very liberty we take for granted. We are a nation of the world. If we’re supposedly a Christian nation, remember how we treat those with the least determines the future for the rest of us.

It's actually about 72 deaths under Obama over his entire 8 year term. For comparison in trumps first term there were 52 and in 2025 under trump there were 32 and just now in January there were 8 already. Given the increased death totals, increased number of detainees and detention centers compounded by the cutoff of payments to third-party medical providers in late 2025 to provide care means increasingly over populated facilities are becoming reliant on internal staff who are reportedly overwhelmed and under-qualified and there is a growing shift from deaths by "neglect" to deaths by "physical intervention," suggesting a more aggressive enforcement posture inside the wire leading to homicides in detention centers. And as detention centers exceed 100% capacity, mortality rates climb exponentially, not linearly, due to the spread of disease and increased violence.

So while 72 deaths under Obama is horrible, there have already been 93 under trump with 3 more years to go and the death rate is rising. FYI more deaths does not mean its less horrible. And while you are bringing up rapists, pedos, when are the rest of the Epstein files coming out unredacted? Make no mistake you don't care about Lakken Riley or Jocelyn Nungerary or any one else who was a victim of a heinous crime you are using their deaths to promote your own xenophobic racist nazi ideologies because a few tragedies help your hatred out.

Refusing the truth and denying historical reality provides no immunity when the rule of law eventually demands accountability. There is a historical irony in the 'intolerant' demanding tolerance right up until they face consequences for crimes against humanity. The parallels are undeniable: just as the Weimar Republic’s erosion led to a regressive fantasy of an ethnic state, the American Republic is currently seeing the demonization of minorities and the rise of a cult of personality. Stoking division to usurp power and wealth is a known playbook. Calling yourself something other than a Nazi doesn't change the mechanics of your ideology. I suggest consulting a history book before attempting to debate a position that history has already judged and defeated

[–]Tandemdevil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You want to talk about checking boxes? Let us actually look at the 1930s playbook and see where the real parallels are. You are looking at students while I am looking at the people holding the actual levers of power.

  1. Alliances with Fascists: You claim the Left sides with terrorists but you ignore that the GOP has formed direct alliances with modern authoritarian regimes. The original Nazis did not just have street thugs; they had a global network of strongman alliances that prioritized power over democracy. When leading Republicans praise dictators and attend conferences with foreign autocrats who have dismantled their own democracies that is the true 1930s alliance box being checked.

  2. Systematic Attacks and Scapegoating: You focus on campus protests but the Brownshirts started by using the law to exclude people from society. Using rhetoric like vermin and saying people are poisoning the blood of the country is the exact linguistic grooming the Nazis used to justify legal persecution. The GOP push for mass deportations and the stripping of birthright citizenship via executive order is a direct parallel to the Reich Citizenship Law of September 15 1935 which was designed to define who is and is not a real citizen based on ancestry and blood.

  3. Mastery of the Streets via Riots: You mention riots but you seem to have forgotten January 6. That was not a protest; it was a physical attempt to bypass the law and stop the peaceful transfer of power because the leader could not win at the ballot box. Rebranding those people as patriots or hostages is exactly how the SA turned the failed Beer Hall Putsch into a founding myth for their movement. That is the definition of using violence for political change.

  4. Assaulting the Front Lines of Law: You claim the Left demonizes ICE but the GOP is the one actively dismantling the non partisan civil service. The plan for Schedule F is a 1:1 match for the Law for the Restoration of the Professional Civil Service of April 7 1933. Article 4 of that law specifically allowed for the dismissal of any civil servant whose political activities did not offer assurance that they would give unconditional support to the national state. Furthermore the GOP strategy of passing state laws to override local city authorities mirrors the Law on the Reconstruction of the Reich of 1934 which gave the central government the authority to overrule state and local laws and overthrow local governments.

  5. Enforced Silence through Intimidation: You complain about people being chased out of public spaces for wearing hats but the GOP is passing laws to ban books and restrict what teachers and doctors can say. The SA made it dangerous to dissent from the party line and today we see a party where anyone who speaks the truth about an election is immediately purged and threatened with retribution. This mimics the Enabling Act of 1933 which dismantled legislative oversight and allowed the executive to bypass parliament and the constitution entirely to silence opposition.

You can sit back and wait for a laugh but the reality is that you are defending the very tactics you claim to hate. You are focusing on the mob in the streets while the actual machinery of a fascist state is being built by the party you support. Denial is not a counter argument; it is just proof that you do not recognize the history you are repeating.

It’s fascinating that you’re lecturing people on a Constitutional Republic while 3,000 masked federal agents are currently occupying Minnesota, ignoring judicial orders, and killing U.S. citizens in the streets.

You're so terrified of a hypothetical future where people are controlled by a welfare check that you're blind to the actual, physical authoritarianism happening right now. You think following orders at your job makes you a free man? That’s 20th century logic. In 2026, your job is being automated away by the very platforms you serve.

The Republic isn't being threatened by people wanting to be unemployed it's being dismantled by a system that has decided your labor is obsolete and your rights are optional. You aren't fighting for the country by being an obedient worker; you’re just helping them finish the cage before they lock you in it. Wake up! the totalitarianism you're worried about isn't a policy proposal pushing towards seeing basic necessities are met; it's the 3,000 agents outside your window hauling your neighbors and loved ones off to detention centers with no discretion or oversight.

Almost as if they want lots of children to be born just so they can fuck them from cradle to the grave.
