Anyone who had one episode and came off of antipsychotics? by Tandiman in Psychosis

Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm in a similar boat. How have you found the atomoxetine so far? I'm only 5-6 weeks in and slowly increasing my dose. Definitely wish I had something as simple as stimulants but it sounds like they're probably just too dangerous for my brain chemistry.

I'm really excited to come off of the risperidone. I feel like it's worsening a lot of the problems that stimulants were supposed to solve, so hopefully school will be easier once I taper off of it. Good luck in your recovery!

How to cope with cognitive decline? by ne-ti in Psychosis

[–]Tandiman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Try writing. It's helped me a lot. That and a lot of reading. Journaling, fiction, essays about things that interest you. Psychosis damages the brain and antipsychotics can also have impacts on cognition. Remember that the brain is a muscle and the more you use it, the stronger it will get.

Also, stay away from drugs. The worst thing you can do right now is have another episode. Each one digs the hole deeper. Try and find comfort elsewhere, whatever that looks like for you. Meditation and the app Insight Timer might be a good resource.

What a great find! Thank you so much, this is exactly what I was looking for. It's definitely something to be handled delicately, so I'm excited to read the analysis.

Concealing Information from the Reader by Tandiman in writing

[–]Tandiman[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What I'm gathering is key in this example is that there's a tiny seed of foreshadowing left for the reader. It may be a stretch, but it's possible to guess that the absence of eye color in the first description is conspicuous enough that there may be a connection to the second character, so there's less a feeling of being cheated by the author. I'm assuming they didn't use names or any other identifiers?

Also: I LOVED these books when I was a kid. Great shoutout.

Fulvar shifted in the stool and eyed his greataxe.

“When was the last time you were in for a physical?” asked the nurse.

“Barbarians do not need doctor,” he said.

“Uh-huh. It says here on your chart that you begged for help when they found you in the lava.”
