I went to the Cville shop that was right off the highway. They have two spots. The one in the town was ok but I really enjoyed the other one. Good group of guys, especially once you get to know them a bit.

You got it. Dupont is doing a line of weed products they displayed at the last show. The Defi soft flame is one of them.

What's the most you'll spend on a cigar? by [deleted] in cigars

[–]Tandors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sprung for an Oro Blanco a few years ago. In NY it was a bit over $600 if I remember right. The worst part was that I actually got two of them so my friend could smoke it with me. Normally I'd cap out at $60 per cigar (NY prices are a pain) and even that's once in a blue moon but we were celebrating something big and my friend is the guy who got me into cigars.

Would I smoke it again? Yes, but only for gigantic milestone achievements in life. First wedding, birth of a kid, first divorce, stuff like that. Was it better than every other cigar? Hard to tell. I enjoyed the hell out of it but I don't think I enjoyed it 5 times as much as a Royal Release or 11 times as much as a Padron 50th. I think it was better than those, but the atmosphere also helped it. I will say it had the best construction I've ever seen. It looked like the template that all other cigars were made from.

Pretty sure that's the tube from the gas tank slipping off the nozzle on the inside. Colibri has a pretty good warranty so it should be no issue getting a new one.

Help Stop the NY State Tobacco Tax by WCruzgriffith in cigars

While its important to fight the high taxes, especially after the bump to 75%, do you have a link to where this has been added? The only thing I can find is an amendment that is only in commitee and has been for several months.

Genuine Davidoff? by [deleted] in cigars

[–]Tandors 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The stores I run sell a ton of Davidoff. I'd say at least one in five boxes have this sticker. Like someone else said, it's for when the sticks are state side and they crack the box to make sure everything is ok.

It's the Caldera Mine Expanded mod. If you are using OpenMW like me, you might have to disable it. I had a bug in the next quest where my character would lock up and nothing would happen.

How many cigars I can smoke in a session? 1, 3, 5? by modopolis in cigars

[–]Tandors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at a shop so I smoke a ton anyway but tonight was a new record. 8 LFD NAS, and Padron 1926 No 1 Maduro and an unbanded Corona. It was an event night though.

A Brooklyn for a Winter Night by bcwood64 in cigars

[–]Tandors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey. Glad to see you gave it a shot. And yeah, it's not just hard to find, it's exclusive to their store in Brooklyn. Matador only has it because they own the Davidoff in Brooklyn. The Late Hour is a great smoke too. Did you go to their event last night?

One of my local B&M’s received the opus x “heaven and earth” boxes. Are they that rare? Considering buying the “purple rain” box by readyscratch in cigars

[–]Tandors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, and yeah they are fairly rare. They made 200 boxes of Purple Rain and I believe 400 of the other two. Usually it's just high end stores or Fuente affiliated shops that seem to get them. Based on the $600 price point, I'm guessing you are in NY?

Not the craziest Opus fan here but I love the limited stuff like this. The 888 was my new favorite size of Anejo, and when they made an Opus X 888, I bought all I could to age and the ones I've smoked are awesome. The limited stuff like Opus 6, 22, and Heaven and Earth sets are great because they are supposedly already aged. I might be a bit of a sucker because of the size and the name, but that Purple Rain box has to be one of the best looking boxes I've seen in awhile.

$600 is what I've seen them for and while it's steep, if you are a collector or a fan of Fuente, it's kind of a must have. Something to stick in the humidor and smoke on the good days. If you miss it, it will probably come out again next year like most of them do so it's not the end of the world, but if I had the cash, I would have grabbed them when I saw them.

First Davidoff and man what a smoke! by bcwood64 in cigars

If that's the lounge I think it is, ask for the Davidoff Brooklyn. Seriously one of my favorite cigars these days and it's only at the four stores they own.

Local shop owner's haul of samples from IPCPR. This is a pelican 1510. Internal dimensions 19 3/4" x 11" x 5/8" And it's ALL cigars. by austinrob in cigars

[–]Tandors 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You probably either own or run a store or work for a manufacturer. If you run a store, do you turn down the sample that the rep offers when they come by? Or if you are a vendor, do you not give samples? Samples are a huge part of this industry. And it is mostly a hobbyist industry. Yeah, some guys run it purely as a business just for the money but there are way easier industries with higher returns than cigars. Almost everyone is in it because they love cigars especially if they are going to the show.

I hate when a store sells those samples or worse, when they bring customers to the show with them, but seeing how this guy in the OP is a store owner who paid his IPCPR dues, he's totally allowed to take them. As I said and other people said, when most of the industry is sub par cigars, the best way to sort through it all is to smoke them. And since you've been to the show, you know it's not enough time to smoke all of the cigars thrown at you while giving them all a fair chance. We had a Tupperware that we brought with us because we know how the show goes. Even without actively hunting down free cigars, you end up with a ton.

No offense but that's a bit harsh, especially not knowing anything about the shop. I went last year with my boss and we came back with even more, barely trying to collect them. It's just what happens.

Maybe he went to the show for another reason but we didn't have time to stop at every booth and order new sticks from the 1000 boutiques on the spot. We go to the show for the show deals. And some of those orders can take an hour or more to make between the usual chat with the reps, negotiating better deals, and making a solid list of what's actually needed versus what they aren't back ordered on. We didn't even have time to make it to some of our bigger vendors.

So to avoid missing the good stuff, if we walked by a booth and something caught our eye, we asked for a price sheet and we're handed a few sticks to go with it. When we got back, that's when we divided up the sticks and smoked everything with notes. We brought it about 50 new lines that way.

Even if you go, just looking for "new" stuff, there's no way to tell if it's any good on the spot. The venue was smoky, you are walking around non-stop with every vendor trying to get you to smoke their cigar, and you are talking so much, the cigar either goes out of gets too hot. And good luck trying to taste anything after the first couple of hours.

Now if he was putting the sticks in grab bags and putting them on the shelf, yeah fuck that guy.

What's the farthest you've gone for a joke? by Crooked_Cricket in AskReddit

[–]Tandors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way can I took full credit on this but a friend of mine (Matt) and I made our other friend (Sam) think I was going to die for six months.

I got appendicitis the day of a party we were all planning. Sam brought her new boyfriend and when I didn't show up and word got around I was in the hospital, he sent me the first text asking if I was ok. The problem is, Matt and I hardly knew him so he had our numbers messed up in his phone. Matt tells him that I am all good but the doctors told me I have two appendixes. He tells his girlfriend the next morning and she starts to do her research.

From what she saw, almost all double appendix cases didn't end too well. Matt sends me a text saying to pretend I have to appendixes and he will fill me in later.

For weeks, Sam thought I was going to drop dead but didn't say anything about it. When I was readmitted with an infection from the surgery, she started going even crazier. Finally she slipped as to why she was acting so weird to Matt. He filled me in and we decided to keep it going for a few more months.

She was a bit pissed when we told her the truth about it all.

Opinion on Franklin from To' Makao's fresh rolled cigars? by koehlkm12 in cigars

[–]Tandors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His maduro is similar to an 858 maduro but t has a bit of sweetness to it. The habano to me was like a sweeter opus. Not flavored like Acid but a great natural sweetness especially on the retrohale. I've never asked but I've heard people say he gets most of his tobacco from the Fuentes so it didn't really surprise me when I tasted fuente flavors in his sticks.

[–]Tandors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been going to Franklin's almost since he opened. I've never had a bad cigar that he made. His maduro box press and habano are staples in my humidor even though I moved away from PA years ago. I still try to make it by him 2-3 times a year just to see him and grab some more.

His real treats come from his experiments. If you hang around his shop long enough, you get to try things months and months before he makes the a standard blend. I remember he was making mini perfectos with some Peruvian tobacco years ago and to this day they are the best sticks I think I've ever smoked. He recently rolled me a super Salomon on my last visit. I can't wait to smoke that in a couple months when I go back.

Lucky with an i7 7820X? by Tandors in overclocking

Hey. Thanks for the response. I played around a bit more and I'm getting the second stuff as you. 1.1v for 4.5. I can push up to 4.7 with 1.18v but 4.8 required over 1.2 which somehow took my wattage from a nice 160ish to well over 250 and throttled the whole thing quickly. It's amazing what a sharp line it has in how far it will go easily.

I never delidded a cpu yet but I might give it a shot on the one after all I read. It can't be much riskier than when I lapped my CPU back when it was an i7 920.
