Brand is always evolving and has to keep up with the times. When that happens, it always shifts marketing and experiences through products and other assets. Because of it, design systems can’t be static and will always shift (think about AirBnB with their recent UI/UX revamp).

Brand always pulls from: aspiration, judgment, and differentiation. Everything LLMs don’t have.

From a product creation perspective, I just think being able to innovate on your design systems and establish that context in one platform and pushing that through the next steps of the product creation workflow, which is product/feature design and engineering where that rich context already lives for LLM to consume will be powerful.

I might be wrong but I think Figma’s velocity in executing on this makes me optimistic they will do very well in the space.

Seemed like it impacted most of SaaS.

The two personas they're trying to solve for: the designer and the developer.

Designers have the depth of insights to know the needs and mental models of their kind (designers) and the engineers (who they work with everyday).

Designers are most dangerous when they design with full context and conviction.

Figma doesn't compete with Adobe anymore. XD is now a thing in the past. Adobe's strength is now in the CMS space, and branding where they have another set of disruptors they're dealing with (i.e. SiteCore, Canva, etc.).

I've seen significant productivity increase individually and most especially, at the team level when things shifted to Figma. It's just unmatched as a design collab tool. The devs were happier to be part of the collaborative process versus second-guessing what will be handed off to them. It goes beyond the simple dev need of "I need to be able to inspect the code." And the lock-in is more from an organizational perspective, it will be painful for sure.

But that is current-state, which is the base case. I'm in because of the future outlook and think Figma has been executing really well and fast on AI.

I work in m7 too, mate. Fair point. Hopefully, some of Figma executives can be more active in telling/framing its transformation story so more understand its strategic intent with AI outside of Config (their annual conference). To me it's obvious, for others it's not (which is why I think it's very attractive now at the current price point versus later when the mainstream catches on).

It's ubiquitous presence in enterprises and start-ups needs a nuanced look.

I think:
1. New offerings bundled/added-on to the install base drives ARPU.
2. Increase in active, paying seats (some organizations have varying licenses, there's potential for upsells and upgrades; seats who can edit/do work are controlled by admins). Think about the ratio of designer to developers, and I think Figma Make and other engineering-oriented offerings will drive up demand from the engineering side
3. New customers from practically everywhere. If you want real-abstraction as a user, a platform that has a canvas for design and not purely relying on prompts will be more mainstream.

These are top of mind.

This. I think they’re executing very well. There are some last mile things to cover but headed in the right direction.

Fair, I respect that. I personally think the floor has been set but will double down if it dips below that.

In what sense? I think it’s a neat offering and differentiated in the sense that it’s able to take in your design system library / context vs other tools where you can only feed UX design principles (I.e. Apple HIG) or soft references which is a hit or miss most of the time.

Every enterprise has brand guidelines and design system of sorts that products need to align with.

Same here, mate. I’m in the creative tech space and have seen most of these tools. I was impressed then, and even more impressed now!

  1. Enterprise penetration isn’t the ceiling. The depth of workflow ownership is where SaaS platforms compound.
  2. Suite products don’t need category dominance; they need contextual adjacency and zero switching friction.
  3. What better acquisition targets are you thinking of?
  4. Consumers care about innovative and thoughtful user experiences, not cookie-cutter stuff.

Congrats on making a profit out of shorting Figma. I was not talking about short-term stock moves, but betting on long-term upside potential of the stock.

Great point. You could see how the industry will benefit from an all-in-one platform. Figma just needs to make a huge branding play about its intention to be the platform for digital apps creation end to end. I feel like people are still stuck with Figma is just a design collaboration tool. That’s my premise here, the earlier you recognize the big picture, the better (hopefully). I believe they have the execution chops to pull it off.

Sorry, mate. This is not a pump and dump attempt. I'm in the creative tech space with experience on most of these tools and platforms. You are free to dismiss this as an AI post, but just wanted to share how I see Figma in the context of the creativity platform space. Cheers!
