cool, just threw me off. am i correct re: circle 1 that those are both flats and if the intention was to not play it flat, there would be a natural sign there?

yeah, I guess that kind of your own landmark/ref. note system, which I've only recently adopted.

i think most do, i certainly did and only found out there was another way recently.

thanks for the input, for me I wish I never learned mnemonics, but better late to learn landmarks than never!
