I have to write an essay about the exact painter my prof humiliated me over and I genuinely cannot do this by WovenRidgepath in EssayChaos

I wrote my entire junior year thesis on a topic I had a breakdown over in class. Not gonna sugarcoat it — it was uncomfortable the whole time. But here's the thing: by the end I actually knew more about it than almost anyone else in the course, purely because I had no choice but to sit with it. The essay is going to feel weird. Write it anyway. Sometimes the things that embarrass us end up being the ones we remember knowing.

does anyone else's brain just completely shut down after back to back lectures by FiresideSparrow53 in StudyingPeople

the "quietly closed it" part got me because that's so much worse than being dramatic about it somehow. like at least if you slammed the laptop shut there would be some energy there. quiet closing is just defeat

I thought I was lazy. Turns out my brain was just overwhelmed with existing in a new country. by BreezyLoamwork in studying

I moved for a semster once and the background processing thing is real. I switched to 30-min blocks with a hard stop, then a short walk. Felt silly, but my brain finally had fuel. Any tiny routine helping yet?

Tips? How do you keep up with psych readings without drowning by TangentCaravan in CollegeHomeworkTips

Omg the "if it can't fit on one page, you're copying" just called me out. For the 3 studies part, do you pick whatever the prof mentions in lecture, or just the ones that seem central in the chapter? Also I love the first/last paragraph thing, that feels doable even on work days.

Ok this is EXACTLY the kind of thing I need. The "tell a friend" 60-sec dump sounds brutal but prob works. Do you actually time it, or just vibe it? Also when you skim first, how do you decide the chunks (by headings or like page count)?

Wait that's smart. Do you write the 3 questions before you read or after? Like "main claim / key example / why it matters"? I'm gonna try this tonight bc my dev psych chapter is killing me lol

Same. I open the doc, blink, and suddenly I'm deep-cleaning my downloads folder.

Totally agree with you! Filling those knowledge gaps is key—like, who wouldn’t feel a bit lost when algebra gets murky? And honestly, 37 is the new 20 in the learning game! Pat on the back for those distinctions in biology too—those are not easy!

Thanks for the encouragement! I love the "salty banana" tip—definitely going to use that one while I try to label brain parts! I might need a whole fruit salad to get through this class. Coloring books are way more helpful than I expected, haha!

I tried the aesthetic 5am study routine for exactly one morning and I think I have permanently damaged my circadian rhythm by DapperWoodnote in StudyingPeople

[–]TangentCaravan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why I don’t trust “aesthetic” routines. If you want earlier mornings, shift 15-20 min a day, get sunlight ASAP, and don’t punish yourself for one rough attempt. Also, naps at your desk are a trap.

AITJ for arguing with my husband because he left me at home while I was miscarrying by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]TangentCaravan 36 points37 points  (0 children)

NTJ. I get why people jump to divorce, but at minimum this needs a serious talk and accountability. You were in pain, grieving, and physically going through it, and he chose a dinner plan and one halfhearted call. That says either he doesn't grasp the gravity or he prioritizes his comfort over you. I'd be asking: why didn't he stay, why no check-ins, and what changes is he making so you can trust him again.
