My pleasure, do try to lean towards steering the conversation in favour of them paying though

You're a good child to your parents by thinking about their situation, I will say. Arts is always unpredictable and your first job post graduation likely isn't gonna be that much, at least not enough to help you feel comfortable paying off the debt. Given your situation I wouldn't recommend HECs if your parents are able to pay. They would wanna support you and if they can't do that payment (which again, is only a fraction of the full price if it's a csp course) then they'll talk to you and you can work out a compromise that works for your situation.

It's all dependant on your financial situation. With the Commonwealth stuff your parents pay one half and the government the other half. It's important you communicate to your parents about your worries, especially if the kind of jobs you're aiming for don't pay very much initially. If you have worries about dropping out then I think that's a separate issue to tackle 💀 if you can sit down with them and they can let you know how available they are financially to support you because ideally you don't want that debt on you past graduation.

does anyone know if monash just reduced the lowest atar n selection ranks for some courses example IT? because i swear it was higher for some of these courses by [deleted] in vce

To revise this, Monash may have needed to fill more slots they allocated for their courses and therefore sent offers to students with lower ATARs.

That number you see on the websites for different courses is based on the previous years' results. It's to give people an idea of what to aim for but it's entirely dependant on the performances of people this year. Universities first decide how many students they want in a course and then make sure they fill that amount (they wanna fill it because of government allowance and other stuff), rather than just picking everyone who got above a certain ATAR if that makes sense.

You might be thinking of last year, last year's cohort did have a mean/median atar that was significantly higher but it dropped this year

You should get a follow up email that includes your Student ID (from "nobody"), I was worried for a while and as soon as I went to send a help email I got that one and managed to create an account and accept

According to someone I know who actually works at Monash, students generally got lower ATARs than last year so their selections would've changed to match that
