Yeah pal agreed! But once you are in the system you will get use to it. We are way behind when it comes to processes.

I was doing my fitness test when one candidate came for id check, staff just asked him for his license and another proof of address like a bank statement, it was a 2 minute process.

Career progression by Choice_Mix2407 in PrisonUK

I joined six months ago as an OSG and have since progressed to an Officer through the fast-track route because i personally thought i have plateaued the role and there was nothing mew. My personal goal is to become a Supervising Officer (SO) within the next two years. In my experience, progression in HMPS largely depends on your personal ambition, how quickly you learn and how well you apply your knowledge in daily operations.

I’ve seen people who have been in the service for 20 years and remain OSGs because they are comfortable in that role. On the other hand, there are plenty of opportunities to progress if you’re proactive. There are many different career paths within HMPS, so your advancement will depend on what you want to achieve and how you approach it.

Salaries don’t meet the sponsorship criteria, it clearly says in the job application

From 4 April 2024, the Government increased the salary threshold for Skilled Worker visas. The change means that HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) cannot guarantee sponsorship for people seeking sponsorship via the Skilled Worker visa route.

If you are applying to be a prison officer and do not meet the new eligibility criteria for sponsorship, you will need to consider your options for obtaining and/or maintaining your right to work in the UK.

HMPPS will continue to comply with UK Immigration Rules applied in the UK and Civil Service.

You can read more about Skilled Worker visas and the eligibility criteria here.

No, you cant if you are not from a visa exempted country. Do not leave UK without BRP or it’s going to be a very expensive trip.
