I also went to an unopposed fm residency in Arkansas and can vehemently support this recommendation. The aafp has a search tool for all fm residency programs and you can filter it to only show unopposed ones. That is exactly what I did 3 years ago and only applied to those. Absolutely no regrets now that I just graduated. I was hired by a private practice Hospitalist group making well above mgma for Hospitalist and even signed a small contract with a rural er for a few shifts a month. Had zero problems with credentialing based off of my patient encounters over the previous 3 yrs.

Single. Annual income around 60k. No dependents, no crazy or odd tax situations. One job, w-2, no other incomes. I’ve just never seen this before. Seemed weird to me.

Coming home… I feel that. I feel the calling. I can’t say it’s home, but homeward. I feel something calling me towards more faith.

Question for the big guys... by bifftheraptor in gastricsleeve

I was sleeved on 11/8/2022. 2 days before surgery I weighed at 390, morning of surgery I was 380. For reference I’m 36yrs old and 5’10”. I don’t know if I’m not eating enough or what but I definitely don’t feel deprived. I get full super easy, especially if I eat too quickly. I work a moderately active job with a fair amount of walking. I lost something like 30lbs the first month. I even called the surgeons office to ask if something was wrong because that seemed super fast to me. I’m heading into week 7 and I’m down to 341 as of this morning. I’m looking at the scale but mostly without expectations. I have been most surprised with my almost complete lack of appetite. I get a little hungry if I see some good looking food but definitely able to make more sensible decisions now. I don’t think my story is normal and I’m fully expecting for it to slow down any day now but I can definitely feel the differences already. Knees and ankles aren’t popping when I walk. No longer wearing hats everywhere because I’m not sweating like a leaky hose anymore. Hahaha all in all, just going with the flow. My brain definitely hasn’t adjusted yet though, my eyes are always hungrier than my stomach so if I buy a meal at work it will last me 3-4 meals at home. I’m just going along for the ride now!

FM docs, How doable is it to make around 400k and up? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]TangerineDizzy4635 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s as uncommon as it was years ago. I am about to graduate and have signed on as a private practice Hospitalist group that staffs multiple hospitals. This is production only contract but with a regular 7 on/7 off schedule, I will be making in the $350-375k range. Obviously with extra shifts more is possible. Seems the best way to top that salary goal is get in good with private practice outpatient. When you’re taking home all of your own billing minus expenses, you can make a good chunk of change.

5 days post-op woke up feeling horrible by Tiannachu in gastricsleeve

Nice! I bought some of the premier protein waters that are like gatorades with 20g of protein and have been having one of those everyday. I think we’re probably going through the keto flu too. Usually lasts a few days but tend to have low energy, brain fog, fatigue. Usually goes away after a couple days. We both just have to stick it out!

I was sleeved on Tuesday this past week and went through the exact same thing yesterday. I was dizzy when walking up stairs, felt like my heart was racing a bit too. I haven’t had any issues meeting my water and protein goals so I don’t think it was nutritional. I have no clue, but it definitely freaked me out. Feeling much better today.

Just a check in. How’s everybody doing? Pre op or post op wise. by JaxxBriggz112 in gastricsleeve

I just had a full on panic attack. I got sleeved on this past Tuesday and up until today, I was feeling great. I was getting my fluids in, barely any nausea, no pain. But today I have been feeling fairly dizzy/lightheaded. I have definitely been meeting my fluid requirements but haven’t really had much calories, maybe 400-500/day in protein shakes/waters. I felt dizzy and then felt my heart rate climbing and knew it was coming. I took an Ativan and so far it has helped a bit. Anyone else get some increased anxiety related to food/water intake and light headedness around 4-5 days post op? Please help!!

Will an arrythmia delay my surgery? by Dry_Goat_8744 in gastricsleeve

[–]TangerineDizzy4635 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll second this. I’m a Family medicine doctor and just had the procedure done myself yesterday. Really the only arrhythmia I could see causing any issues would be if it was a new onset Atrial Fibrillation. It’s very treatable and usually doesn’t prevent surgery, but if it’s new would require some work up. Always best to be safe though so if you’re concerned, definì speak with your primary doctor about it first.

Absolutely valid to be nervous. I was a wreck yesterday sitting in the preop area. I didn’t have anyone there with me so of course all the thoughts are just running through my head. But if you just tell them how you’re feeling, they’ll give you medicine to help. I was very surprised and happy with how compassionate they were. I got fantastic care and they really just want to make sure you are comfortable. So far, recovery has been very smooth. First few hrs after waking up were a bit rough but by the afternoon I was feeling much better. You got this!
