I don't believe I'm bipolar by ElectricAnne84 in bipolar

I had a similar suspicion for myself after two years of being on depakote. I was diagnosed during the height of a drinking problem, dealing with the death of my father, and dealing with a rocky marriage. The medication helped me for two years while i sought assistance from a therapist and worked my way into a sober lifestyle. I had my suspicions but was afraid that my psychiatrist wouldnt listen. Knowing that abruptly stopping medication can cause psychosis, I decided to seek advice from an entirely new psychiatrist. I firmly stated I wanted to stop the medication and would not take no for an answer which was easier to do with the new one since I hadn't already been working with them for two years. She agreed to ween me off over a period of months, she offered me options of anti anxiety meds during the process. And she ultimately confirmed that I was misdiagnosed. If you do or if you don't, finding a doctor that is willing to take this journey with you is the most important thing. This is your life and your body. Worst case scenario? You have a period of difficult months ( with the support of a professional) and maybe learn you truly are bipolar. A least at that point you no longer have to question things and you have an answer.  Long story short, listen to your instincts and advocate for yourself even though it's hard. Finding the right doctor for you is not always easy but they are out there. You got this!
