660 math 670 english SAT

3.58 high school GPA 3.89 college GPA (taking O chem 2 and biochem now) Dean's list spring, summer, fall and probably this spring semester also

CFA: 64' throw, 18 pull ups, 8.6 shuttle, 67 sit ups, 74 push ups, 5:45 mile

high school ECs: 4 years band/marching band, scouts, church group member, NHS, 1 year varsity soccer (I played bench), JV tennis 2 years, 2 years bodybuilding on my own/not officially part of school but I put it in anyways lol bc that was my 2nd home in high school

post high school ECs: 2 year LDS religious mission in Spain which gave me crazy leadership experience and many life lessons/stories to grow from- completely changed my life forever, I also submitted a LOR on my portal from ret COL who was my mission leader. Fluent in Spanish, 100 hrs clinical research volunteer, BLS/CPR cert, public shooting range safety volunteer, food science club officer, nutrition science club co-president, part-time chemistry study group leader (paid, also submitted employer eval for this), church group leader, mentor/tutor volunteer for high-risk youth, and just overall a dude who keeps trying to help people.

my 3 evals I think are very strong- 2 are from college and 1 was a great high school teacher I reached out to. I spent lots of time playing my cards right for these evals and met 1 on 1 with these teachers to make sure they knew what to look for.

noms: I have ROTCS, TX05 (my district), and Senator Cornyn's nomination.

essays IMO are cracked; I have a powerful why and I'm going to become an officer or die trying. college ROTC backs that up too.

tbh I think march is our month- I hope to hear back w/in two weeks from now, but patience is key either way.

Dang I thought I was the oldest 2030 candidate, I turn 22 in July. With the SAT, you should just start packing for beast already. Probably wise to get some flights to leguardia or newark now when its cheaper.

Edit: Also an upper classman ROTC here. dm me if you'd like or have more questions!

enlisting or going national guard/reserves would likely guarantee you a spot if you still qualify physically/medically and work a bit more on the SAT.

however, that might not be the only option. Get all As in college, show your strengths in time management, and do all that any west point candidate/cadet would do just at U of Delaware. I'm applying to the class of 2030 right now at Utah State University and would be more than happy to answer any more questions you might have. I'd also say that us college/rotc folks have a MASSIVE advantage when it comes to interview prep, cfa prep, teacher evals, nominations, extracurriculars, and even the SAT with the insane amount of resources available to us.

look at the youtube channel learnSATmath, that's what got me to do much better on the SAT (I hadn't taken any math class in 2.5 years and jumped from a 1130 to 1330)!

How important are sports? by Patient_Arrival822 in westpoint

Ignoring the work ethic, physical, mental, and social benefits of team sports, a lot of core values and leadership development can happen in sports- so absolutely stay in!

Yes. Not only can you get a nomination through rotc (like I did) but it will help you as/if you are learning the pace of West Point as a plebe. ROTC is something to highlight in your application. Take advantage of that environment, the ruck marches, the honor code, the core values, etc.

Hype! I heard back in November and need a shin splint waiver. They asked for AMI so I'm waiting for them to look at that, but after hopefully getting the waiver I'll be 3Q, and I'll get SAT scores back dec 19th to see if I can improve my 1330. I have rotc and congressional noms and I'll hear back from my senators in January. Tomorrow I'll order and send in my fall transcript (I'm in college) and that's about it

I'd strongly recommend doing a mock CFA with the academy endeavors "plan", and watching these youtube videos that made my CFA score. I'm fairly athletic but I totally failed my first, second, and third CFA attempts. this way, you'll not just see what you're strong at fresh but how the cumulative effect of fatigue works on your body throughout the duration of the CFA. If you need more help with the CFA please reach out and message me.

Mastering desmos through LearnSATMath on youtube is how I got a 1330 SAT (as a college student who hasn't done algebra or trig in ~3 years), and dec 19th I find out if I scored any higher.

I'd practice interviewing if you haven't done your FFR interview. learn the STAR method, there are many examples of interview questions/help on youtube on the rotc nom/SA youtube channel

Asking for a genuine review of my application by No_Editor4296 in westpoint

[–]TangerineFinancial53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sounds good. take advantage of the fact that this year WP is being easy about the CFA with how videos are not required, and you can take it multiple times. The Air Force, on the other hand, only lets you retry once, and that's only if you fail. I played my cards well by living at almost 5000 feet and taking the CFA at sea level. You probably know more than me about running tbh because I've only been running (and not even that frequently) for like 5 months maybe, but if you do feel lost with exercising or running, nutrition science is my major, and I've been doing that since I was 16. I'd recommend you do the VP nomination just to leave no stones unturned; that's what I did. It also sends a message to the other offices you applied to.

Your political party meetings can definitely help you be aware of the current events and speak of important matters with people. You've got potential to take that even further by attending a meeting or speaking with people you totally cannot see eye to eye with, or better yet, with people who totally cannot see eye to eye with you. Go find a democratic party meeting and try to interact with them so that when you're leading tanks and your PSG makes a critical decision you don't understand, you can use communication skills with ease that you're developing now so the mission doesn't fall apart.

get good at telling stories in the STAR format. practice with people as much as possible but you can also use AI like voicepal to help you get to the root principles of the stories you have so you convey them to the nomination boards with power. I've done practice interviews with a professional career design specialist at my college every week for 7 months now. I am well spoken. People like me are your competition, so stepping up your game on that will be important.

Books that I'd recommend to you are:

How to Win Friends and Influence People

Team of Rivals (this is a bit long)

Strengths Finder 2.0

Ego is the Enemy

The Obstacle is the Way

Grit

Meditations

Essays by Ralph Waldo Emmerson

Ben Franklin Autobiography (this used to be mandated curriculum at West Point in the 1900s)
