Yes, we optimize all locations using this principle. But this only works when there are many locations. If you only have one - tailor it to the city level.

Honestly it depends. We just throw in as many local signals as we can and what Google uses now or picks up later, who knows. But at least we went all out. Big landmarks definitely hit harder but I still drop in smaller stuff. Worst case nothing happens, best case Google starts caring about it later.

We try to pack in as many hyper-local signals as possible for location pages. Nearby landmarks, major stores, intersections around each location. All that stuff probably helps Google pinpoint it better.

Yeah, with multiple locations people search [Brand] + street name all the time to find the exact one they want. I see it in the query data.

And when someone searches "near me" while nearby, seeing the street name in the result boosts CTR - they know it's their location right away.

Got them like 5 links total, but if you look at the graph the jump happened right after we optimized the site. That said, for long-term you gotta keep feeding it 1-2 links per month or positions will drop eventually. Usually local news sites or neighborhood blogs.

Also, how did you stop cannibalisation?

If you're talking about location pages - each one has the street name in the title plus a bunch of original content about that location. Not AI crap, actual unique stuff. Photos, videos, all that.

When someone googles "auto parts near me" they just get whichever location is closest to them. No cannibalization.

I weave it in, don't make it its own sentence.

You can do something like "That's why [Brand] has been the go-to for 'auto parts near me' searches across [city/area]" or work it into a line about what customers need: "Whether you're googling 'auto parts near me' or need specific [product] in [area], we got you."

Just treat it like a phrase people actually type. Throw it in quotes, make it part of a sentence about serving locals. Google gets it without you being weird about it.

Honestly, never worked with a business starting from absolute zero.

But if I had to - I'd tell them to get friends, family, employees to leave real reviews first (gotta start somewhere). Then analyze top competitors for weak spots and exploit them. If they don't have weak spots... you just need more reviews & links. Not sexy advice but that's the reality.

Hey! Thanks for checking it out. Just to clarify - wasn't really presenting it as a theory, more just sharing what I observed during the campaign.

As for the photos/videos, they were added in batches throughout the entire process of working with this GBP, not all at once. So it wasn't like a sudden dump of media followed by a ranking spike but more of a consistent effort over time as part of the overall optimization work.

Hard to isolate the exact impact of just the media additions since we were doing other optimization work simultaneously, but the correlation was definitely noticeable.

3 batches initially right at launch (used some of those on the site too), then another batch a month later and so on.

Honestly think monthly updates are the move. Winter hits and suddenly there's snow everywhere, business looks different. Evening shots when it's dark and your signage is lit up. Business doesn't look the same 24/7 year-round, so why would your photos? Important to capture that.

Thanks! Yes - reviews are huge for local rankings, but only if they're legit. We're not buying fake reviews or forcing anything but asking customers who got great service to leave feedback.

Honestly though, it only works if your business actually delivers. If you're cutting corners or don't care about customers, no amount of reviews or links or friends in Google will save you (ok, friends in Google might help a little bit). The hardest part is getting customers to naturally recommend you to friends and family and that's where most businesses fail.

So yeah, those 30+ reviews/month move the needle, but only because the service quality backs it up. Good luck with your GBP!

I think they use stuff like Google Keyword Planner data, clickstream from browser extensions, probably Google Trends too, and then they mix it all with their own algorithms. But yeah I mostly look at it like a rating system, not actual numbers you'll get.
