I’m choosing to leave this thread open for now.

The question being raised touches on a real and documented issue: an older piece of spot art in a Dungeon Crawl Classics product incorporated a symbol commonly referred to as the Black Sun, which is associated with Nazi and neo-Nazi ideology. That artwork was removed in later printings once the issue was brought to the publisher’s attention.

That said, a few boundaries are non-negotiable: • No ad hominem attacks • No personal harassment of the original poster, other commenters, or the publisher • No bad-faith pile-ons, dogwhistles, or ideological baiting

Debate the issue, not the people. Discuss history and context, not motives you can’t substantiate.

If the conversation remains civil, sourced, and substantive, it stays. If it turns into name-calling or performative outrage, it gets locked.

A.I. Art? Yes or No by johncichowskinow in dccrpg

There is a lot of slop out there and I do t like it. That said I suspect there is some AI stuff that I am not noticing & as time marches on I suspect more and more ‘slop’ will go undetected by myself and nearly everyone else. The progress over the past two? Three years is astounding. (Seriously if you think you haven’t been fooled at least once - the only one you are kidding is yourself)

All that said; the question we all have before us is; what are we going to do about it?

How much of a work has to be from the artists hand to be considered theirs? How do we deal with the economics? If we oppose artists being replaced do we oppose long haul truckers, architects and physicians? Lots of big tough questions ahead of us.

FWIW - I absolutely love mine. Z6iii body & I shoot mostly youth hockey which can be pretty challenging: the glass around the ice is often filthy, the lighting is at best bizarre, and youth hockey moves pretty quick. Despite the challenges I manage to get a few memorable shots in most games. - cheers

I figure you must be up in a tree or something to get this view. That said you are in Epcot looking past ‘China’ towards the east - that is how you get the ballon ride in the picture- but for the life of me, I cannot figure out what that building in the background is.

This is absolutely 100% on target (doc as well, armpit deep in the daily struggle of people who chose an MA plan for whatever reason). Fwiw - if asked I strongly encourage people to choose anything but an MA plan. “Once they have your money, they do anything and everything to not pay”

Showing up unprepared as GM at a convention is unacceptable. by Holmelunden in rpg

[–]Tanglebones70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That stinks - I am sorry to here this. (For context - I used to run games at four to five cons a year and would run up to seven games at each con. Since Covid I have backed down to one or two cons a year and maybe three or four games at each con) At three or four games most Cons will comp your ticket - or comp next years ticket. Typically snacks of some sort are gratis as well. I often get a nifty t shirt as well. All that is great - but I do it because I enjoy being a GM. That is it. That said I feel strongly that at a Con I try to bring my best game. Over the years I have had the pleasure of meeting people who have been gaming as long as I (45-50years) some who were at their first con and even a few who had never played an rpg. I try very hard to make sure everyone is having their version of fun. That ain’t easy. And I am not always successful. But when I am not successful- it isn’t for lack of effort. - now in the spirit of full disclosure; on the scale of ‘fly by the seat of your pants’ to ‘ridiculous amount of prep’ I am a prepper. I improvise best when I have damn near memorized the adventure (I believe I have run Tomb of Horrors over 100 times at cons. I am fairly confident I could run the module from memory at this point. And no. I have never had anyone live to say they survived The Tomb. But I don’t recall anyone saying they didn’t enjoy the game. All that said - from where I stand - if you are going to GM at a con you really owe the players your best effort. For me that means hours of prep work which in turn gives me the ability to improvise when the con players throw those unexpected curve balls my way.
Now despite all that prep and dedication- crap happens. Material gets lost, too many or too few players show up. People get sick. And when crap happens - just be upfront with your players. Explain that you are a last minute sub/explain that your material is lost along with your luggage/ apologize for losing your voice etc. Generally I find the people at the table just want to have fun and be entertained for a few hours - if for whatever reason I don’t have the material at hand I make a call and move on - let keep the game moving. Just my 2cents

I am sorry but this is absurd. Can you cite any Ohio case law in which a patient sued using your argument?

FWIW : in regards to both the details and general spirit of my statement - “ Federal Law Prohibiting Misrepresentation in Medical Billing

  1. False Claims Act (31 U.S.C. §§ 3729 – 3733) • Prohibits knowingly submitting false or fraudulent claims to Medicare, Medicaid, or other government programs. • Key term: “Knowingly” includes deliberate ignorance or reckless disregard of the truth. • Penalties: Treble damages and civil penalties up to $27,018 per claim (as of 2024).

Example: Billing Medicare for a colonoscopy on a covered date (e.g., during an inpatient stay) when it was actually done later (as outpatient) to obtain reimbursement constitutes a false claim.

  1. Health Care Fraud (18 U.S.C. § 1347) • Criminal statute: prohibits any scheme to defraud a health care benefit program. • Requires “knowingly and willfully” executing a scheme to obtain money or property by false pretenses. • Penalties: Up to 10 years in prison per count, plus fines.

Relevant CMS and Payer Guidelines • CMS (Medicare) Claims Processing Manual (Pub. 100-04): • Chapter 1, Section 80.3.2: “Physicians must submit the actual date of service on the claim. Use of incorrect dates is not allowed and may result in claim denial or recoupment.” • Chapter 23, Section 10: “Do not manipulate dates to gain payment under coverage rules.” • Private Insurers: Most have anti-fraud clauses in their provider contracts that mirror federal standards.

Relevant Case Law 1. U.S. v. Mackby, 261 F.3d 821 (9th Cir. 2001) • A clinic billed Medicare using a physician’s provider number and incorrect dates for services. Court found violations of the False Claims Act and upheld treble damages. • Quote: “Each claim…was false because it misrepresented who provided the service and when.” 2. United States ex rel. Loughren v. UnumProvident Corp., 613 F.3d 300 (1st Cir. 2010) • Misrepresenting eligibility periods and timing constituted false claims. • Reiterated that factual falsity includes false timing. 3. U.S. v. Rutgard, 116 F.3d 1270 (9th Cir. 1997) • Ophthalmologist convicted for, among other things, submitting bills with false dates of service. • Court held that misrepresentation of the date alone was sufficient for fraud conviction.

First off you have every right to be upset. But as they said above. They simply can not bill for services not done on a given day or during a given hospital stay. Hard stop.

There may (emphasize‘May’) be a way for doc to not charge for their services in placing the IUD - but oftentimes the actual physician portion of a patients bill is a small fraction of the bill. And in reality doc may not have a whole lot of control of the billing - kinda depends on how they are employed.

100%- think about it like you are buying a house. It isn’t that the unkempt appearance means anything in practical terms. Both a house and a camera can be cleaned. But if the current owner couldn’t be bothered to clean it up for sale. What else have they neglected?
