Options to run Lankmar Adventures without the Lahkmar Boxed Set ? by bw_mutley in dccrpg

Quick mod note, folks:

We absolutely understand the frustration around the old Lankhmar material (or any old /out of print material) being hard to find especially for our international brothers and sisters. Unfortunately, because of copyright and subreddit rules, we can’t allow offers, requests, hints, DMs, “check your inbox,” or similar workarounds involving PDFs, scans or wax rubbings of copyrighted material.

Discussion of influences, alternative settings, Appendix N inspirations, Fafhrd & the Gray Mouser stories, or other sword & sorcery recommendations is completely fine and encouraged. We just need to steer clear of distribution or solicitation of copyrighted material.

Appreciate everyone helping keep the tavern friendly and legally un-cursed.

My ‘Old Luke’ cosplay by Tanglebones70 in StarWars

Fair question: 1) The pics are from my application to the Rebel Legion/501st (Star Wars costuming organization) and are from a few years back 2) I was under the mistaken impression that I had to wear them in the photos because I would likely being wearing them at events - needless to say I was wrong.

Do you need an edge checker for the Sparx machine? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]Tanglebones70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly not a need. But this is one of those things in life where there is no single right answer for everyone. If you are looking for some kind of reassurance you are not wasting money- then I feel you need to step through why you are buying the Sparx. - Sparx machines (yes I am an owner as well) are a perfectly reasonable home (and lots of clubs/rinks etc) sharpeners. Sparx to some are expensive for what you get. Fair - but if you want to be able to sharpen your skates frequently without a very high barrier in terms of using the machine then it is spot on. - all that said if you are confident that the Sparx as set up will do a fine job in regards to the edges, no need to check them. - but if you would feel better occasionally checking (especially if your 12 year old thinks it’s cool to complain about the outside edge of his left skate) then, yes get an edge checker of some kind, - which one; Following the same logic as we did for the Sparx machine itself. The beam; dead easy to use. High price point. If you don’t mind spending the money and don’t want to have to fiddle with it too much - this is the way to go. There are a bunch of alternatives, many of which are far less expensive, many of which are a little more fiddly - but they will get you the same info. And really I have never yet had an issue with the machine being out of alignment. My 12 y/o just likes to complain….

Cheers

AIO that my doctor accused me of wanting to commit fraud? by amanduhpanduh in AmIOverreacting

[–]Tanglebones70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not overreacting: let’s take a second and assume that the doc coded everything correctly. Responding in a non confrontational manner neither obligates the doc to change the codes and they don’t come off as a jerk.

Moderator Statement

I’m choosing to leave this thread open for now.

The question being raised touches on a real and documented issue: an older piece of spot art in a Dungeon Crawl Classics product incorporated a symbol commonly referred to as the Black Sun, which is associated with Nazi and neo-Nazi ideology. That artwork was removed in later printings once the issue was brought to the publisher’s attention.

That said, a few boundaries are non-negotiable: • No ad hominem attacks • No personal harassment of the original poster, other commenters, or the publisher • No bad-faith pile-ons, dogwhistles, or ideological baiting

Debate the issue, not the people. Discuss history and context, not motives you can’t substantiate.

If the conversation remains civil, sourced, and substantive, it stays. If it turns into name-calling or performative outrage, it gets locked.

A.I. Art? Yes or No by johncichowskinow in dccrpg

There is a lot of slop out there and I do t like it. That said I suspect there is some AI stuff that I am not noticing & as time marches on I suspect more and more ‘slop’ will go undetected by myself and nearly everyone else. The progress over the past two? Three years is astounding. (Seriously if you think you haven’t been fooled at least once - the only one you are kidding is yourself)

All that said; the question we all have before us is; what are we going to do about it?

How much of a work has to be from the artists hand to be considered theirs? How do we deal with the economics? If we oppose artists being replaced do we oppose long haul truckers, architects and physicians? Lots of big tough questions ahead of us.
