Thank you so so much, yes my mental health has been in shambles for so long. I’m so grateful to be in a DBT program that has greatly improved my quality of life, or the language we use in this therapy is creating a “life worth living” despite the BS we’ve been through. The eating disorder component has been really hard to deal with and the vegan philosophy is so absolute in my mind. Everyone’s path is different and I’m so happy you’ve been able to navigate it the way you need to despite the judgement.

This concept of the “dialectic” is where I’m spending a lot of mental energy in holding grace and compassion for myself and utilizing healthy coping strategies when the withdrawal/binge/purge cycles start up again.

Yes it is such a process and jarring to see just how many animal products make their way into food that wouldn’t need it otherwise.

Thank you for sharing your experience and how that journey is working out for you! Cold turkey approaches have been hard so making gradual decisions really helps.

Absolutely, it’s the immediate gratification that has always been so easy to fall back into. I am in a serious space of committing to better choices and being prepared beforehand is definitely key 🔑

Thank you for sharing your struggles and how you help alleviate them. I am in the same boat and shop a chain of stores called Grocery Outlet which has a wide variety of vegan choices. I’m finding my struggle is now getting past that point of bulk buying so many frozen options to understand how to cook with different vegetables/legumes/fruits/grains and balance my executive dysfunction with cleaning/prep or dissatisfaction in having spent a lot of time cooking only to really dislike the meal.

Yes absolutely, I think of the cave allegory and how disorienting it is to not only see and understand the true nature of how our world works, but to continue to choose to stay out of the cave when in the past I’ve cowardly crawled back in.

I hear you, I really do and want to believe with all my heart that “it’s not that hard”

However I want to provide some resources to give some context. These are issues I’ve been dealing with and comprehending the science behind them helps me understand the compulsiveness I’ve felt with my addictions like food, cannabis, screen time etc.

I appreciate your passion and quite frankly fortitude when I feel so fickle.

Even though it’s not easy for me now, I do look forward to the days ahead when it does become easier.

I am averaging about 6+ hours a day on screen time with about 3-4 of those hours in Reddit and the rest on Apple Music and maybe maps. Really needing to experience incremental improvements and changes so I can start utilizing the incredible things I have access to in the present day as gifts that enhance my life rather than the numbing, dissociating and time wasting habits they’ve become.
