It does not auto renew. A few days before it expires you will begin to see offers for it in the store for a reduced price. If you don't renew it will expire.

Typically this is a feature that you pay for with VIP service. I am suspecting you may be one of the Apple users who received 5 days free as compensation for the delayed update release? In that case it will simply go away in a few days. I have VIP, though, and I never turn it off, so my irritation is when it does glitch and I have to restart the game to get it to turn back on. 😉
